Do you still wear proper bras, such as underwired, for work?

I think I've only worn a real bra as opposed to a stretchy crop bralette thingy whenever I've been working from home the last six months at least. Is it that bad to give up on the traditional bra? in terms of what going without normal support is meant to do for our breasts?

I went over to wireless but good support - will never wear wired again, you can get just as much support from the wireless ones and much more comfortable.

elizabethdraper · 03/01/2022 17:43

I have completely given up bras.

WutheringHeights66 · 03/01/2022 17:44

I’ve given them up too, at 55 with big boobs I can’t find a bra that’s comfortable, I only wear stretchy crop top things too. Life changing.

madisonbridges · 03/01/2022 17:45

If you get a good fitting wired bra, they feel just as comfortable as a wireless one. Although they are less forgiving over weight gain! But I have several M&S ones that I forget are wired.

Malariahilaria · 03/01/2022 17:45

I'm 36f. Have never given them up for a single day. Would have someone's eye out if they weren't locked down. I sleep with a soft bralette thing at night or it's just too uncomfortable to have them flapping around. I'd have them removed if it didn't need general anaesthetic 😁

daretodenim · 03/01/2022 17:47

I've never stopped wearing underwires - there's too much that needs to be kept under control! The only non-wired that work for me are sports bras, but they're pretty tight in comparison! However, I wear seamless ones now that have a kind of fleecy lining, so much more comfortable than something designed for the viewer's eyes. I do remove them early in the evening now though, which I've never done, ever since I first wore a bra.

doyouwantachuffedybadge · 03/01/2022 17:51

Sounds like youve been wearing the wrong bra size - bras and the wiring should sit against the rib cage, not under the breast. there should be about an inch between the breast and wire, so that a bit of material lies at the edge of the breast and the wire. So, the breast is lifted by the material, not the wire. The wire should also go around t almost the back of the armpit.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 03/01/2022 17:53

Never stopped! At my boob size I need the wires Grin but I don't find them uncomfortable, I can sleep in them etc (not on purpose but if I went for a nap or something)

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 03/01/2022 17:55

I'm lucky I have perky boobs 😁 so a crop top or bralette is fine. I usually wear a vest under tops anyway so don't need padded bras. Comfort is king.

ldontWanna · 03/01/2022 17:55

I wear "proper" ones for work. I don't like them but needs must, even though I cheat in winter because of the extra layers.

If I'm not leaving the house I don't wear anything and it's amazing.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 03/01/2022 17:56

I'm 34 c or occasionally small d

Svara · 03/01/2022 18:00

I wear a sports bra for work and a regular non underwired bra at the weekend.

Agadorsparticus · 03/01/2022 18:03

Stretchy crop top here. I'm done with underwires now. I'm a 36GG so could probably do with having wired bras but it's comfort all the way.

CaptainPovey · 03/01/2022 18:09

I wear a proper bra. Clothes hang better, I am not giving in to the mono boob, the sag or the slouch

34 E here

Was 34 FF

mafted · 03/01/2022 18:09

I don't find anything but a wired bra comfortable. I hate being braless except in bed and crop tops etc don't seem to work for me. I wear and underwired bra under my sports bra for exercise.

AnotherLongDay · 03/01/2022 18:12

@Lennon80

I went over to wireless but good support - will never wear wired again, you can get just as much support from the wireless ones and much more comfortable.
What brand is supportive and wireless? @Lennon80
Strumpetpumpet · 03/01/2022 18:16

I tried non wired bras from bravissimo during lockdown, but found them too tight to be comfortable - I suppose they have to be tight or they wouldn’t be supportive enough??

Kiopa · 03/01/2022 18:18

I were non-wired to work...though thinking about it I probably haven't with anything right on top.

ImFree2doasiwant · 03/01/2022 18:18

@Lennon80 any recommendations? Tgank you.

stackhead · 03/01/2022 18:19

I'm a convert to the crop top type bra (with the little inserts). Will never wear a proper bra again.

But then I am not blessed in the boob department!

TicTacHoh · 03/01/2022 18:22

What are your best wireless bras for DD+ ladies? I really need to get involved in this and ditch the wires, especially after all the Christmas wining and dining...

WreckTangled · 03/01/2022 18:25

I'm only a 30D and stopped wearing wired bras about three years ago. Easier for than those with bigger boobs I know. The Reebok Gabi is my favourite along with the Calvin Klein triangle ones.

pradavilla · 03/01/2022 18:30

I wear underwires ones everyday. I do wear no weird or crop tops under pjs but never out and about. They are ok but don't give enough support.

Spudlet · 03/01/2022 18:31

Stretchy crop top / light support sports bra here. I have teeny boobs and an active job though, wouldn’t fancy an underwire poking me (I’ve had bras fitted in all sorts of shops but they are never comfy). I’m never going back!

Laiste · 03/01/2022 19:20

Big boobs here. The only times i ever go without my wired bra are:

Properly in bed (sleeping or deaths door ill)
Breast feeding

I gave birth in my proper bra last time. My labours are long and slow and i feel vulnerable enough wandering around like a hippo in a nightdress without having my boobs being lose and unpredictable as well.

I whipped the bra off to breastfeed when DD arrived. Midwife found it hilarious.
