2k to spend on a piece of jewellery. What would you buy?

A very kind relative would like to give me 2k to spend on a piece of jewellery. What would you go for?
Something everyday or formal?
Earrings? Necklace? I am completely at a loss! I like jewellery, tend to prefer classic style pieces. Probably slightly prefer gold but silver looks nice too.
This is a nice problem to have I realise!

I think I'd go to somewhere that has lots of antique jewellers and see what caught my eye! I'd possibly try and buy both, but I love earrings. Have you considered pearls? Less day to day but a nice investment too. If you bought a set you can switch between subtle, one piece and full bling if you wear the lot! Have fun shopping. Grin

If you can, go to Birmingham jewellery quarter, the choice is amazing, many items are made on the premises and you get so much more for your money than in a high street shop 🤩

Diamond earrings. My dream piece of jewellery. You will be able to wear them all the time - hair up, hair down.

I am too scared to actually buy real ones in case I lose one pulling a top over my head!! But one day I'll be responsible enough....

I have a similar first world problem and thinking of buying a tennis bracelet. Something with smallish diamonds so it feels really special but not so spangly that it feels ott Smile

Diamond earrings screw back .

(I have a pair of silver/amethyst earrings with a scew back , they take a few seconds to put in but then they're 'in' )

LadyGAgain · 01/01/2022 10:35

Gold bangles. Proper bangles.

Somersetlady · 01/01/2022 10:36

A second hand carrier tank watch for everyday wear!

Enjoy your shopping OP and don’t be in a rush wait for something you love.

SummerOfComedy · 01/01/2022 10:37

Ooooh! I'd love your problem.

I have always wanted a white gold and diamond tennis bracelet. Failing that, a pair of cluster diamond earrings.

😍

Antique diamonds or antique hallmarked gold.

RussianSpy101 · 01/01/2022 10:43

Diamond earrings or a tennis bracelet. Both can be worn everyday.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 01/01/2022 10:44

A Fope bracelet.

Floisme · 01/01/2022 10:44

I think I'd look for a jeweller or maybe an art college graduate whose work I liked, and commission them to make something. I should add that I've no idea what 2K would buy - almost certainly not as much as I think. Something everyday because anything formal I'd just lock away and never wear.

saveforthat · 01/01/2022 10:47

I have diamond studs. Worn them nearly constantly for 20 years. They only have a butterfly back but really tight so never fall out. Only downside is they are so lovely I rarely bother to change them.

AiryFairy1 · 01/01/2022 10:48

What a lovely “problem”, so envious! Diamond studs, a beautiful ring, or a simple pendant necklace would be my choice.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 01/01/2022 10:49

I'm clueless but what a lovely thread Star Great suggestions.

MerryChristmas21 · 01/01/2022 10:55

A ring. Something I'd be happy to wear everyday.

UnusuallyUsual · 01/01/2022 11:09

How about a watch?
I'd personal go for a large carat diamond ring but would have to look after my nails more. Happy hunting

Afreshstart2021 · 01/01/2022 11:11

Thank you for your suggestions! I am leaning towards a nice pair of diamond earrings that I can wear everyday too…though pearls is a good suggestion…

I couldn't spend 2k on a peice of jewellery. Does it have to be jewlerry?

I never knew this was a thing....goes off to Google them.....

I would say a really good gold necklace chain…plain…but heavy weight. Like a Byzantine chain or similar. And then a pair of simple Good and diamond earrings
I spent my bonus on a few good pieces of jewellery for my last few years of working. I wear the gold chain multiple times per week even now I’m retired. It looks classy and adds to a casual effort or work days (when I was working) or for evening to zing up a plain elegant outfit like a black dress or top. Similarly the simple earrings- day or evening.
They’ll hold their value as always look up to date
I have never regretted spending the money on this

BeaLola · 01/01/2022 12:58

Diamond earrings, tennis bracelet , watch, gold bangle

You could get ones that are threaded on rather than butterflies at the back.

If you're planning on wearing them permanently this would get round your (very reasonable) jumper fears and mean your diamonds are safe and secure (as they can't just fall out).

I just lost someone very close to me who left me money. So had a quite limitless budget to buy myself something.

They very much liked fine jewellery so I thought it was the right thing to buy as a memory item "from" them before being practical with the remained of the inheritance (will be a house move and potential school fees if we decide to send DC to private school)

In the end I chose a ring with 3 larger stones (a sapphire and 2 diamonds). I almost went for a tennis bracelet or eternity style ring. But this piece of jewellery really I'd like to stay in the family. So I thought the larger stones were a nicer investment as then if my DC or even grandchildren etc don't like the ring they can reset the stones.

Diamond studs. Not pearls, easier to damage.
