Does anyone have any experience with any products which actually help teenage spots?

OP posts:

Benzoyl peroxide cream

Sunshineandrainbow · 31/12/2021 07:57

My daughters skin has greatly improved since using cereve products.

@NynaeveSedai

Benzoyl peroxide cream
Yes, that's what helped mine. Although I wasn't a teenager at the time.
Thatsplentyjack · 31/12/2021 07:59

Also use cerave moisturiser.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo is worth a try. This also works to clear skin.

Acnecide 5% benzoyl peroxide
La Roche Posay AI targeted breakout cream

these will help reduce redness and speed healing.

Thyme Out from Victoria Health. Incredible stuff!

Riverlee · 31/12/2021 08:34

My ds found the Simple range of products helpful, especially the wipes.

wonderpants · 31/12/2021 08:48

Zineryt lotion from the GP. Clears it up quickly!

TeacherMa · 31/12/2021 08:54

Prescription-strength medication was the only thing to treat mine and my daughter's acne. Best to see a doctor for their advice as they will be able to tell which type of acne and spots she has and then let you know if you'll be wasting your time with over the counter stuff.

MilitantFaucet · 31/12/2021 08:54

Origins spot gel
Paula’s choice bha
Cerave cleanser

purplesequins · 31/12/2021 08:57

acetylsicylic (sp?) acid face wash. many store have an own brand version.
and a simple light moisturiser. dc like simple as it's scent free.

RiverSkater · 31/12/2021 09:06

My daughter is using Acnecide wash and freederm which is keeping them under control. She's not very consistent so will forget to leave the wash in for the desired time, I'm guessing they don't bother her so much yet!

I had dreadful teenage skin. Benzyl peroxide was the miracle back in my day, Topex changed my life!

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/12/2021 09:07

A drs prescription. It doesn’t matter what the cause is the treatment protocol written by NICE is the same.

Louloubelles · 31/12/2021 09:24

Duac cream - on prescription from gp. Really good stuff if over the counter stuff isn’t working.

It rather depends what the OP means by teenage spots; if it's an odd spot here and there, then OTC is probably fine, but if it's more than that then I agree go to the GP.
Alysskea · 31/12/2021 10:12

I had terrible acne as a teen and ended up on roaccutane. My mum was concerned because of all the potential side effects and it was pretty grim when I was on it but to this day I'm so glad I did it - I could finally look people in the eye!!! Changed my life.

MollieTD · 31/12/2021 10:20

Another vote for Acnecide - but beware it can bleach clothes/pillowcases!
Another thing that helped me for stubborn patches of under the skin acne was Nizoral anti dandruff shampoo used just on the area as sort of a mask - turns out it was fungal acne which wouldn’t budge with anything else. Also keeping super clean, all scraps of makeup off, cleansing at night with something gentle (Facetheory is good) and a linen cloth.
Change pillowcases regularly as well.

Zineryt. You can also buy it from an online pharmacy.

Kjr33 · 31/12/2021 18:30

Just spots or acne? If just spots then La roche posay effaclar and most of all spot patches (cheap ones off Amazon or more expensive zit sticka ones) they bring down the swelling and the best bit is they stop any picking which can cause scars etc. some are invisible enough to wear in the day time too.

Thanks everyone

I use dove soap, I swear it's worked for me, I have and still suffer with acne but it helps.

SandingWithMyUnshavenLegs · 01/01/2022 23:46

Paula’s choice salicylic acid lotion and Paula’s choice niacinamide 20% treatment.

maddy68 · 01/01/2022 23:47

Go to the GP and get some proper treatment. Overview the counter stuff does jack shit against acne

minipie · 01/01/2022 23:52

Even better than benzoyl peroxide, is Epiduo which is a mix of benzoyl peroxide and adapalene (a retinoid). Prescription only (from GP) but it really does help.

Dianette or Yasmin pill can work wonders if it’s hormonal. Spironolactone can also help with hormonal acne.

Personally I found Zineryt (topical antibiotic) useless and oral antibiotics had bad side effects. But different people find different things help.

For severe acne that doesn’t respond to these - ask for a referral to dermatology for Roaccutane. But they will want you to have tried other stuff first.

Skincare wise I suggest Cetaphil for oily skin or Cerave. Very light moisturiser only, and only if needed. And a good concealer (I rate NARS or Revolution depending on budget).
