Any recommendations?

Had a look around our small town and there's hardly any. Are they not a thing any more? Don't want anything too expensive unless I could wear every day, so nothing overly glittery. Have dark brown hair, v dark eyes and lashes. Would like something neutral and not too wild, just do that I look 'done'.

I am apparently turning 50 in the next year and need to have a good long think about how awful I look. Thought make up would be an easy start!

Watching with interest as I have been looking for exactly the same thing!!

I know Trinny London does them but the reviews are quite poor. Looking for something reasonably priced to try.

There's definitely a gap in the market for makeup products which are suitable for older skins. I can't wear half of what I used to as it looks cakey and wrong.

peanutbutterandbananas · 30/12/2021 09:54

Glossier's Lidstars are great, they don't crease and are in nice shades

EdinaMonsoon · 30/12/2021 09:55

I have this one by Chanel . Lovely smooth & moisturising texture & long lasting. Comes in a few shades. I have the Nude Eclat for every day wear.

BackBackBack · 30/12/2021 10:17

Does Glossier have any concessions outside of London. I don't mind ordering makeup online once I know what I want, but for a first and untested purchase I prefer seeing it IRL!

BackBackBack · 30/12/2021 10:17

Sorry meant to add, have googled but all it's giving me is a London store (too far).

petitebleu · 30/12/2021 10:27

Bobbi Brown long-wear cream eye shadow sticks are my go-to. Lovely colours and they really last. You can try them out on their website. I might've just wasted 15 minutes trying them all. Not cheap but they go a long, long way. I'm older than you and there's plenty of choice to suit me.

mnahmnah · 30/12/2021 10:28

Elf do some good creamy eyeshadow pencils. You can order through Boots or find in bigger stores.

honeylemonteaforme · 30/12/2021 10:55

Maybelline colour tattoo doesn't slide off so no need for primer

didldidi · 30/12/2021 11:01

I found Revlon better than mabyline, less patchy

BusterGonad · 30/12/2021 12:21

I've tried a few and the By Terry Ombre Black Star (automatic chunky pencils)are the best, and I love them, M&S Rosie for Autograph did a great dupe (ebay) but the next best thing were the Revlon ones in the glass pots. Watch out as some are very shimmery so try the testers or look at the reviews online. They had 2 matt brown ones which I liked a lot. Also Clinique have chubby stick eye ones which I enjoyed using.

MooMinCow · 30/12/2021 12:37

Charlotte Tilbury ones (pots, not sticks) are my favourite. They have a light, whipped/mousse texture so they don’t drag on the eyelid at all. Bit pricey but little goes a long way.

Otherwise Kiko and Beauty Pie do some great eyeshadow sticks in matte and shimmer shades and reasonably priced.

BackBackBack · 30/12/2021 12:58

Ah didn't know Kilo did them. I tried a Maybelline colour tattoo but it was too shimmery for what I want.

I'm looking for a very subtle glow rather than shimmer.

idontshareprimula · 30/12/2021 13:01

Beautypie are so good

BackBackBack · 30/12/2021 14:03

Went to local Boots for a prescription and had a look whilst there and found a Rimmel one to try. It might be slightly too matte for what I want but it's the closest so far. I looked at the Revlon one but felt it was too glittery. www.boots.com/rimmel-wonder-cloud-eyeshadow-10290594?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc--LIAs--Beauty-_-UK_Smart_Shopping_LIAs_Beauty&gclid=CjwKCAiAzrWOBhBjEiwAq85QZ-Th6SR3IQhiFLJ0UiP_VtumUURl8pXvy1r0trt6yduvZKugFE3CtxoCjOMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I love love love MaxFactor Masterpiece Nude Palette 02 Golden Nudes. It has cream, shimmer, dark, taupe, about 10 in total. I have brown hair, brown eyes, cream skin and freckles.

Back21970 · 30/12/2021 14:22

I have a couple of the Bobbi Brown ones and they are ok but quite expensive. I’m going to try the Kiko ones myself after seeing good reviews - they are on offer at the moment online and even at full price they are only about £7.

These are powder eyeshadows, the Op wants a cream formula not cream shades.

Thank you. I've had a bit of an internet trawl this afternoon. I hate not being able to try things in real life (no testers in real shops either). So I might give the kiko a go as not too much money to lose if they're not for me.

Trinny keeps popping up on FB, so pleased someone mentioned those. As do magnetic lashes - anyone tried these? I'm cackhanded with eyeliner so I guess they're not for me. My attempt at getting lashes done was awful, they lasted 2 days before falling out.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 30/12/2021 19:58

My favourites are the Trinny London eye2eye pots and the eyeshadow sticks from Vieve and Beauty Pie.

I've tried a few of the Charlotte Tilbury pot cream shadows but they just don't last on my eyes at all, primer or not which is a shame as they have gorgeous colours.

MAC paintpots are fantastic also and the only reason I don't use them anymore is that they aren't cruelty free. Would like to find a dupe for Groundwork as it was my favourite

Auldspinster · 30/12/2021 20:31

Revlon ones are the best I've ever used, got some spares of the chocolate shade in case they ever discontinue.

Abracadabra12345 · 30/12/2021 20:45

Look Fabulous Forever is an online beauty range for older women and the founder is pretty passionate about the way older women are viewed. Their eyeshadows are all Matt and includes cream. I do look at other ranges but keep coming back to them

ChocolateRiver · 30/12/2021 20:46

I actually really like the Trinny ones. You get quite a big pot so they’re not bad value. The Bobbi Brown ones are nice but I get through them too quickly and sometimes they break too. The Beauty Pie ones are ok, but the colour pay off isn’t as good as the Bobbi ones.

Ginandplatonic · 30/12/2021 20:51

I really like the Trinny ones too. Not cheap but last for ages, go on smoothly, last well.

Sosigsandwich · 30/12/2021 21:07

Definitely Charlotte Tilbury eyes to mesmerise pots. I absolutely love them. The colours are gorgeous and they last all day. I've got the Laura Mercier caviar sticks and although they go on lovely they're very very patchy after am hour or 2 max.
