Trainers that are wider across ball of foot - recommendations please!

Please recommend me a brand of trainer for everyday wear such as school run and shops, that is wider across the ball of the foot. Not getting on with converse or Adidas, they seem to be too straight. I often don't realise until I've actually worn them out, and can't afford to keep making mistakes.

I was told that Asics are narrow fitting by a sports shop.

I think Superga are a wider alternative to Converse. They are a bit more bouncy too.

You just need to find any wide fit though, people don’t tend to have wide heels, it’s the front that’s wide Smile
That might help when you’re looking at reviews etc.

ChristmasRobins · 29/12/2021 19:08

Nike are much wider than Converse and Adidas, although Converse now do some styles in wide fit.

Never heard of saucony - how do you say it?! S-au-s-oh-ny? S-auck-ony?

Nike Space Hippies

They are a definite look but lord they are comfortable and they come up wide. They’re very much a lifestyle trainer. Not for sport, but super comfortable and look stylish (if you like the chunky, slightly Yeezy look)

PermanentTemporary · 29/12/2021 19:58

Sork-ony is how I say it. I should think probably wrong.

NewlyJingle2021 · 29/12/2021 20:10

I have wide EEE feet, Vans are the best for me and then for gym and running ASICS, some styles of new balance, some Nike and some adidas. NB, Nike and Adidas are very hit and miss and I have to try them on whereas Vans I know in any style will be wide enough.

I have v wide feet wear Salomon so kinda walking shoes but wide and v comfy need some new ones, my mum had her bunions done and they are what she wears as wide and comfortable for her.

My feet are shaped like a duck’s - very wide across the toes and narrow at the heels.
I really struggle with high street shoes shops.
Topo and Altra running shoes are excellent.
I have Topo Runventure trainers, which are superbly comfy.
The secret is to start looking at the shape of the sole of the shoe (often there is a picture of this when shopping online).
A running shoe shop such as Run and Become (online) gave me excellent advice.
Rocket Dog sneakers are definitely worth looking at - they have that narrow forefoot/wide toe shape while still looking normal!
I wear Vivobarefoot shoes/trainers most of the time, which are very expensive but great for wide toes. There are even wider barefoot shoe brands out there if you like that.
I also have some winter boots called OutnAbout made by Sorel.
Camper Pelota shoes have wide toes but are not wide overall.
You can make more volume/space for your toes by removing the insole (or half of it) in some shoes.

Oh, and Ecco
And I find Saltwater sandals very comfy - they seem to stretch to accommodate.

evilharpy · 06/04/2022 10:28

100% Saucony. I have never worn anything else for running. I swear my feet are triangular and they're perfect as they have a wide toe box. I used to always wear men's but last time I bought women's and they were also fine - I needed to size up in women's but not in men's.

Mine are purely functional and not at all stylish (purple Hurricanes) but have a look at the Jazz which are a bit more everyday-looking. I like these ones although no idea whether that website is any good to order from.

partystress · 06/04/2022 10:31

FitFlops. Light as air and accommodate my duck shaped, be-bunioned hooves better than so-called wide fit brands.

Chiefofstaff · 06/04/2022 13:30

Another recommendation for Saucony. If I need something sublimely comfortable for walking its those. I have reebok classic white trainers to wear the rest of the time. Nice wide toe box and deep enough too.

These are the ones I have

I have triple E wide feet and I wear Nike Air 90's.

bigTillyMint · 06/04/2022 15:14

If fashion trainers rather than sports, my Puma Calis feel wide across the front.

Iamkmackered1979 · 06/04/2022 18:10

I have Salomon walking trainers wide and v v comfy not really trendy though quite like vans myself need to look

FrMaguire · 06/04/2022 18:42

I find my Allbirds very wide at the ball of my foot and they're v comfy. Also machine washable. I love them

KatharinaRosalie · 07/04/2022 12:54

As pp recommended, men's shoes. They are usually wider.

@FrMaguire which AllBirds do you have? I’m just looking on the website and there are quite a few options!
Techno56 · 10/04/2022 15:17

Skechers are wide generally and also do a wide and extra wide fit (my son is H width in clarks..and he can wear the extra wide skechers)

DinosaursEatMan · 10/04/2022 15:31

Karhu. I have wide feet and went to a specialist running shop in desperation, following a recommendation when I was moaning about getting a pair that actually fit. They are the most comfortable pair of trainers I’ve ever owned. Some of the colours are questionable but I got plain black.

Findingneeemo · 10/04/2022 15:33

My feet are the same. Nike I often get youth ones as my feet are small (yet wide). They are very comfy.

DinosaursEatMan · 10/04/2022 15:40

Forgot to add, I have narrow heels and it’s the ball of my foot that’s wide. So I walk out of most wide fit shoes.

minipie · 10/04/2022 15:44

New Balance all the way. But as a PP said it has to be the 574 style. I tried another NB style once, which looked very similar but felt totally wrong.

Bonus: if you have smallish feet (up to 6 I think) you can buy kids’ New Balance 574s which are cheaper. They also have permanent sales on their site of end of run colours.
