Rosacea treatment

lee12345 · 28/12/2021 21:32

Hi,

I've had rosacea for around 6 years. It flares up sometimes worse than other times, but for the past year it's been especially bad. I suffer on my cheeks the most & one side worse than the other. They are always very red & I also have acne like spots only on my cheeks. The rest of my skin is clear.
I've been looking into some medicated gel,
As I feel I've tried all sorts of facial products. Could I have some opinions or recommendations on what has worked for others?
Many thanks

Agree with low sugar too
Keto (no carb) was GREAT for my skin

Another soolantra recommendation from me. It's been a while since I posted my before & after pics!

Soolantra doesn't work for everyone but in my case cleared my rosacea completely. I used the first tube over 3 months applying once a day before bed. I got the 2nd tube from my gp ready to use but then gradually stopped using it as my skin cleared. It's been months now, and I haven't yet opened the second tube. It's been a miracle cream for me, I cant as my believe I suffered all those years! I spent a fortune on skin products and in the end was at a dermatologist for something else when he said I had rosacea and to try Soolantra. I had never heard of demodex mites before. For me Soolantra has been absolutely amazing

This was my experience practically word for word. Also haven't used my 2nd back up tube yet.

I've tried everything over the last decade and nothing made a difference the way Soolantra has. I'm still prone to flushing if I exercise/drink wine or eat spicy food but that is temporary and I tend to avoid the latter two.

Thankyou for all your replies.
Soolantra is what I had been previously recommended.
I have a GP appointment in 2 weeks, so will hopefully get this on prescription.
Thanks again

Soolantra has been great for me, my spots and redness have vastly cleared up. I’ll never have perfect skin like some lucky people do but I now look good with a bit of make up whereas before even heavy make up didn’t help much. You do need to persevere with it though, the first week of using it made my skin worse before it improved.
I always have a tube now and just put a tiny bit on tip of nose and cheeks before bedtime most evenings. I find if I stop using it completely my skin starts to deteriorate again. Pricey stuff but one of the ‘beauty’ things that I actually don’t resent spending money on.
And yes, I have also found that minimising alcohol and sugar vastly helps too - after about 2 days I can see the benefit showing on my face. Currently this is a losing battle for me though!

newlabelwriter · 31/12/2021 06:30

Another for Soolantra. Suffered for years and it cleared mine completely. Like others get it via online pharmacy, costs £36 and lasts for ages.

SherryPalmer · 31/12/2021 06:42

Just be aware that with soolantra you might need to use it for a while before you notice a difference. I wasn’t told this by the gp and only discovered it from reading reviews online. I took regular photos of my skin and did notice a big improvement over time but it wasn’t immediate and in the initial period my skin got worse.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2021 07:01

I used to use rosex or financea, which helped to some extent.
I was thinking of asking for soolantra next... but then the dog was switched from Frontline to Bravecto. Not only has this cured his seasonal alopecia, but also my rosacea seems to have cleared up. HmmGrin (no, I don't want to think about this too much either!)

BlackSwan · 31/12/2021 07:15

IPL worked for me. Soolantra didn't

PoodleKaboodle · 31/12/2021 07:22

Pai skincare works best for keeping my face calm, it’s pricey but effective.
I use Rosalique too which is amazing, it’s enough coverage on its own but I also use it as a foundation base.

Ok, your photos have finally triggered my order. That's amazing - you must be pleased?

I've suffered really since having my kids (eldest nearly six), although I'm now 38 and it seems common for it to start in women mid 30s. I've tried most creams and topical solutions with no impact. I'm mostly red (although don't feel hot or sore or sensitive), but also get bumps and spots under my skin.

Despite the advice to always wear spf etc, I actually find mine gets better in the sun - it seems to dry up / a light tan replaced the redness. But then every winter I'm back to where I started.

I'm looking forward to giving the Soolantra a go.

lee12345 · 31/12/2021 10:09

@nearlychristmas21
Let me know how you get on with it!
I am considering ordering online, but I have a doctors appointment next week, so will see what they say. If not I'll order from online pharmacy.

I always thought I just had acne but after visiting a different doctor in the summer she said it was Rosacea and prescribed me Rozex cream. I can't believe the difference it has made to my skin and wished I had this 20 plus years ago.

Flupibass · 31/12/2021 20:13

I had my first flare up last winter, sore , bloated, blotchy , spotty face. My doctor prescribed Metronidazole which I used once a day for 6 weeks. It reduced the swelling and got rid of the spots. I now avoid wind and sun on my face because they are triggers, cleanse with a gentle non perfumed non everything cleanser twice a day and pat dry. I use Dermalogica moisturising cream and doctor Sam buntings serum with azaelic acid in the morning. If I go anywhere remotely stressful or warm I wear make up- mineral based bare minerals works for me.

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 31/12/2021 21:25

Soolantra - I found it worked within a few days. Ordered online using a prescription service. I used about half the tube and it has never come back.

I'd always been prone to redness but mine was triggered by using Liquid Gold glycolic acid which seemed to strip off the acid mantle on my skin.

Now I stick to a very, very simple routine; Cetaphil cleanser wiped or rinsed off followed by Cerave or Elemis Pro Collagen moisturiser. No peels or multi-stage skin regimes from now on. If I think my skin needs brightening a bit I use Elemis Dynamic Cleanser.

Those who have used soolantra, does it make your skin dry? I usually have quite oily skin, but wondering if I need to change my skincare routine/products when I start using it?

Does Solantra work if you only have redness and no spots?

No it doesn't, it's like an ointment. I washed my face at night and put it on very sparingly. My skin seemed less dry after I started using it, although I changed to a Clinique face wash and Clinique moisture surge for the morning at the same time as starting Soolantra. I've had no dryness or reaction at all. Your doctor should prescribe Soolantra which is a lot cheaper than buying otc
BabycakesMatlala · 06/01/2022 09:36

@Lndnmummy it's worked well for me with redness and no rosacea acne.

nearlychristmas21 · 08/01/2022 17:02

@lee12345

I've used it three nights so far. My bumps are all vanished. It's not done much to my redness yet - but it's such early days, and it's not got worse which is a relief!

I've not had any immediate dryness although I understand that about a week in you can get quite rough texture and even flaking - you can probably imagine why Confused

And to PP yes it is more expensive to buy that get in prescription, but I'm lucky to be able to afford it (I've spent more on things that haven't worked), and getting an appointment is such a challenge that I'd rather order it directly!

Appalonia · 08/01/2022 20:45

Just popped to sat the Dermacol foundation is very good as a concealer. It's probably too heavy to use as a foundation but I use it on my cheeks and chin before foundation and it really helps to cover the red. I've used that green concealer before but it just made me look I'll!

I use Eborian Red Correct which is a CC cream. It’s not too heavy and I find it really good. You can get from their website directly or from Space NK.

I use it in place of foundation.

Hi , what’s your routine ?

stayathomer · 22/05/2022 13:02

oh god op these threads always make me so sad because everyone has different things that worked and it’s so unfair that there isn’t testers for all products so people can try them. Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser with the blue pump and Avene skin recovery cream changed my life but the beeps have reformulated the avene now and haven’t had to try yet but am terrified that if I have a bad flare up I’m done. Also Roche posay spf daily and I drink a lot of water. Best of luck, it’s so amazing not to feel your skin burning up x

Reapandsow1 · 22/05/2022 22:55

What moisturisers do you all use ?
