Best budget night cream

My skin feels dry & tight in the morning. What's the best night cream that doesn't break the bank? At the moment I'm using a cheap Lidl night cream plus the ordinary rosehip oil on top. If I put loads of the rosehip oil on I don't feel too dry in the morning, but I look like an oil slick at bedtime!

Use one or the other, @MarianneFaithful

LaBellina · 27/12/2021 12:04

Perhaps it’s not your moisturizer that you need to change but your cleanser. If you have dry skin, a milky cleanser is better then a foamy one.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/12/2021 12:08

Either put the rosehip oil on first then a lyer of the cream
Or mix a couple of drops in a small amount of cream on your palm before applying ?

If yiu want a really nice cream the M&S one (purple jar ) is lovely -Absolute Sleep Cream )

MarianneFaithful · 27/12/2021 12:10

Thanks for the quick responses!
@KirstenBlest I tried them both individually first but neither was sufficiently moisturising. That's why I tried both together.
@LaBellina at night I use body shop camomile cleansing butter then la Roche posay cream cleanser, followed by Paula's choice bha, then the moisturiser.
I'm open to any suggestions?

CeraVe create.

I wouldn't use a moisture that has fragrance in it.

LaBellina · 27/12/2021 12:12

Honestly @MarianneFaithful I think you’re using too many products. Unless you wear loads of makeup I imagine 1 cleanser might be enough and perhaps the daily use of BHA is a bit too much? In your case I would just use 1 cleanser and 1 cream or the oil for a while and just see how it goes from there.

yoshiblue · 27/12/2021 12:13

I currently use the Sukin range. Sensitive cleansing lotion (taken off with a cloth) then either their rosehip day cream or sensitive night cream.

Super ethical with no nasties. Available on Amazon for reasonable prices. The cream jars are a decent size and last ages.

yoshiblue · 27/12/2021 12:14

Note I use sensitive versions but there are various ranges for different types of skin too.

If you have dry skin- I'm assuming you have sensitive skin ??? Body Shop Camomile has fragrance in it which may lead to irritation later on. I would opt for an oil cleanser, but to double cleanse with your Pochay cleanser once a day.

Paul's choice BHA is great but is much more suited for their who have oily skin. If you have dry skin, I would only use the BHA for maximum 2X a week.

Astral!

I bought a tiny pot after my DSis recommended it.

Honestly it's a fantastic night cream and cheap as chips!

secular39 · 27/12/2021 12:19

Get the CeraVe in the tub and ditch the Rose hip oil.

Best budget night cream
Branleuse · 27/12/2021 12:21

when you say budget, what would you stretch to?
I love the m&s ultimate sleep cream, but i just checked and says no longer available. I can see it on ebay plenty though. It is going for about £15 and I really rate it.
For budget budget stuff, id look at stuff like oil of olay or nivea, or even pure coconut oil.

I honestly think its just trial and error as to what your skin likes, but I do think that skin feeling a bit tight in the morning doesnt necessarily mean it needs you to put oils and creams on it necessarily

We used Astral- but as I have dry/sensitive skin, it has fragrance in it, which lead to a flare up of my Eczema. However, I have heard it's a good cream just not suitable for my skin.
KirstenBlest · 27/12/2021 12:24

You are using too many products MarianneFaithful

They are from different brands and might be reacting with each other.

I'm currently using the Pure from Waitrose face wash, which is gentle

Bagelsandbrie · 27/12/2021 12:27

I’m 41 and I just use the cheapest q10 Aldi night cream - I think it’s £2 and it’s brilliant.

I used to work for Clinique for 15 years and I think pretty much any night cream is fine as long as it’s a good moisturiser. Nivea or Astral are very good if you have very dry skin.

Try not to use tons of different stuff together, you’ll just irritate your skin.

CinnamonSweet73 · 27/12/2021 12:45

The BHA dried me out terribly I would just stop using that for a while and see how you get on

HaroldMeeker · 27/12/2021 12:48

I have dry, eczema prone skin and I swear by superdrugs vitamin e night cream. I cleanse with cerave non foaming wash, or the vitamin e hot cloth cleanser. I think your products might be stripping your skin?

ufucoffee · 27/12/2021 12:48

I've used loads of different ones but my go to now is Nivea moisturising night cream. Much better than the £85 Clarins one I previous used. I costs about £4.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/12/2021 13:06

Not online but it is instore so might be worth a search on the Find Instore ?

I was hoping to pick up one of the fancy Christmas jars in the sale but nada online (again, might be instore ) .

GemmaRuby · 27/12/2021 13:09

Clinique dramatically different moisturiser is the only one I’ve found that really soaks in and keeps my skin moist

PAFMO · 27/12/2021 13:14

Rosehip isn't very nourishing and is for first signs of ageing.
Best budget I've found and repeat buy is Nivea Q10.
I also use Weleda Skin Food, Nivea Blue Pot and Astral when very dry.

You're using a pretty harsh BHA (salicylic) acid toner- BHAs are for oily/blemish prone skins and the acid goes into the follicles and slurps all the gunk out (non technical explanation) If you've got dry skin, you need an AHA which gently resurfaces (does the job of the horrific gritty scrubs of yesteryear) so a glycolic or lactic acid. Only used a couple of times a week to start with.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/12/2021 17:01

I’d knock the Paula’s choice toner down to twice a week, it’s quite drying. I’m super oily so I can take it but it’s strong stuff.

Have you tried doing your skincare earlier in the evening? I’m doing it earlier so it doesn’t end up on my pillow.

FindingMeno · 27/12/2021 17:03

Hyaluronic acid serum.
Cerave moisturiser.

MarianneFaithful · 27/12/2021 21:02

Thanks for all the responses! I was expecting tumbleweed....
I'm taking on board all your suggestions, and the consensus seems to be that I'm overdoing it. So I'll try dropping the cleansing butter, I'll just use the LRP cream cleanser, drop the bha (maybe try lactic acid in a week or so because I think I have some already - but only twice a week) and then try the night cream on its own and see how that goes.
I'm trying to use stuff up rather than keep buying new, so I'll only buy a new night cream when I've tried your other suggestions.
Smile

I use the aldi one in a blue pot and silver lid. No idea if it's good but I've had estee Lauder and body shop previously and see no difference.
