Home gel nail kits!

So I've been given a mylee led gel nail station for Xmas and I'm just so excited!
Just after tips for applications and removal? I am a single mum with 2 children so I don't have time to sit and soak for hour 😂 are there any recommended products to remove the gel quickly?
Also any recommendations for other gel nail varnish brands etc that I can use?
Feels so good to have nice nails again 🥰

We got foil things with pads that you put acetone on and wrap round your nail. They were from mylee I think

Think dd has some Bluesky gel colours

Beachgirl33 · 26/12/2021 22:31

No tips but I’m looking at a Mylee Gel Nail Kit too. Was it easy to use? Good results? x

freeandfierce · 26/12/2021 22:31

I've used bluesky too, always got good results and they are reasonably priced too

MrsDThomas · 27/12/2021 07:43

I have mine done with Mylee (i have a nail tech visit me). When i 1st had them done i had The Gel Bottle builder on them and they had to be soaked and it took over an hour. A right bugger. My previous tech had the electric file and i hated it.

But when i had the Mylee builder and polish on, it was great. With removal, she files it down manually. Takes minutes and much kinder than the electric one.

I love the Mylee stuff, much better than the Gel botte. I have them done every 3 weeks for £14 and rarely chip.

imstilljenny2 · 27/12/2021 08:57

I got the Mylee kit for Christmas too, used it yesterday and I'm really impressed with the results. I've now got strong looking, shiny nail polish which looks as if it won't chip! So pleased. I haven't thought about taking it off yet but I think I'll buy some wooden nail files to scratch the surface of the nail before applying acetone.

Thank you all! So far I love the nail set, the colour and texture is lovely and easily applied. I accidentally applied one over a cuticle though and it peeled up and off but I just need practise! The rest seem sturdy just like the salon.

I've seen nail varnishes you can put on top to help remove? Are these a waste of money?
I already want to try all the colours 🙈

I’ve used mylee and bluesky. Both produced good results that lasted pretty well. Just found that it wrecked my nails and left them in really poor condition.

Thatginismine · 27/12/2021 09:14

How long do you cure for? 2 blasts on one cost and mine are still sticky with the gel polish that came with itHmm

As a former professional nail tech my first advice would be to see a nail tech! If you are going to do your own you will have to suck up the fact that removal takes time, if you rush it or pick the gel off you will wreck your nails. The bottles of liquid that purport to dissolve the gel for removal are unsafe and contain ingredients that should be nowhere near the human body.

Are you wiping afterwards? Cant remember what the stuff is you use but dd has a bottle of stuff you use before applying and then afterwards too

You can just wipe them with a baby wipe to get the sticky off. Although blue sky sell a 'no wipe top coat' which I use now. They also have a peelable base coat which I like because I don't have to remove it properly and it doesn't wreck my nails, but it doesn't last as long.

eurochick · 27/12/2021 09:53

I use a Sensationail peelable base coat. They don't last quite as long but removal takes seconds and is very satisfying!

Hopeislost · 27/12/2021 10:11

Another vote for the Sensationail peel off base coat - I get about a week if I use it. Normally I get 2 weeks but removal is a faff! I just use kitchen foil over cotton pads and let them soak while I'm watching TV in the evening.

Hopeislost · 27/12/2021 10:12

Oh and you can get 'no wipe' top coats if you don't like the sticky layer. The stuff you wipe with is alcohol based so if you've not got any, rubbing alcohol will get it off.

Whiffle77 · 27/12/2021 10:16

I use a mylee gel remover - it comes in a bottle like nail varnish, you buff the shine off the nails then apply like nail varnish. Wait and the varnish bubbles off, its absolutely amazing. So easy and doesn't seem to damage your nails either

Wednesdayafternoon · 27/12/2021 10:18

@Whiffle77 I've seen this and this is what I was wondering whether I should get?
How long does it take roughly?

Thanks for all the advice everybody 🥰

I got this stuff off Amazon last year when lockdown meant I couldn't get my gels removed in the salon. It's brilliant and so easy to use.

Honestly its brilliant, I stopped doing my gels for ages as they were so annoying to remove and damaged my nails. You apply it like nail polish but really thick and then wait - much easier than soaking or foils. It's probably only a few mins or so, it starts bubbling and then you can push gently with an orange stick to remove it. Sometimes I have to apply again to a stubborn bit, but its still so much quicker and easier than it was before.

Wednesdayafternoon · 27/12/2021 19:55

So I saw that one of my nails were lifting at the side and it actually pulled off so easily and the rest followed! Not sure what I did for them all to lift so easily and last such a short period of time :( any ideas?

OP posts:
pumpkinpie01 · 27/12/2021 20:00

I have been doing my own with the mylee kit for years , I'm naughty and peel them
off after a hot bath . As yours came off so easily did you file them and put the wipe coat on before the base coat ?

Wednesdayafternoon · 27/12/2021 20:21

I filed the ends and then put the base coat on, 2'colour and then a too and then the wipe! Have I missed a step? They were a bit messy around. The edges and had gone over abit 🙈

OP posts:
pumpkinpie01 · 27/12/2021 20:27

Yes you have . First step file your actuall nail just a few times taking the natural shine of your nail off , then wipe with the prep and wipe then base coat , 2 coats of colour and top coat . Mine last about 3 weeks then
