It's bloody amazing. My skin feels plump, smooth, soft, hydrated. I am GLOWING.

Chanel sublimage

It's fucking £310

Xmas Angry

Bah humbug

Might go back and scrounge more testers, if I collect enough it'll be the same as having a full sized pot no? Xmas Grin

Yes. My mother shops at all the best places and gives me all her free samples (bagfuls).

Dior, Clarins, Chanel...you name it.

They smell divine. They work.

I tell myself by eeking out these small samples I am doing my skin some good.

But gosh I could not afford them.

Roundles · 24/12/2021 17:15

Whats on the ingredients list? I bet someone clever can find you the same in a less fancy pot for a friendlier pricetag...

givemepiece · 24/12/2021 17:19

Ooh great idea roundles
So the blurb says something about éphémères of planifolia whatever the hell that is ConfusedGrin

Try the skinskoolbeauty website - finds skincare products with similar ingredients

Lunenburger · 24/12/2021 17:30

I did exactly what you suggested, collected lots of Sublimage testers and wore it for two months.

It was lovely, but actually caused spots on my face, something I have never had before, not even as a teen.

And then I found this. www.aldi.co.uk/lacura-caviar-illumination-day-cream/p/073196214401402

Have now pursuaded all my Chanel loving friends to give it a go, and quite a few have swapped.

BusterGonad · 24/12/2021 21:55

I used to collect the Clinique eye cream testers, I'd walk through Boots every morning and evening (on my way to work and home) and I filled a whole pots worth. 😂

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/12/2021 09:02

On skin skool it says the main ingredients are squalene, jojoba oil and glycerin which are all dirt cheap.

givemepiece · 25/12/2021 09:37

Thank you @Lunenburger I'm going to get some of that!

Merry Christmas everyone, sadly I didn't have any sublimage under the tree Xmas Grin

You will find that Chanel is actually very old-school when it comes to the sciency bit and very highly-fragranced. I bet you could find something just as or more effective from a k beauty brand for MUCH less. (Will research for you.) I actually had a look through the INCI list for the Sublimage La Creme and I have to say that in typical Chanel style, it’s both underwhelming and concerning. They hype up the Vanilla Panifolia benefits as though it’s a miracle ingredient in the same way that La Mer wanks on about it’s seaweed soup. It’s vanilla extract, luv. They have obviously made a flower water (like rose water) and it’s an emollient or skin conditioner in this formulation. It adds fragrance at the same time. The ACTUAL active ingredients are licorice extract for brightening (you can get that on billions of other things and you can do better with vitamin c and/or niacinamide.) There is vitamin c in this formulation, but probably used a skin conditioner and antioxidant at the same time as it is also being used as a preservative. (It’s an old-school vitamin c.) There is one peptide in this and it’s not high-tech either. The rest of this is made up of various oils, emollients, ph balancers, stabilizers and emulsifiers. (Colours and fragrances too.) Honestly faaaar too much money for what I would consider a “Nanna Cream.” The likelihood of this causing inflammation over time is quite high too.

givemepiece · 25/12/2021 11:54

@Justilou1 yes this is what I want to hear! Thank you Xmas Smile

The Ordinary is a range of skin care, with science based ingredients at really good pricing. I haven’t got around to trying any yet, but believe it was developed to be as good as the expensive stuff just without the hype and packaging.

Justilou1 · 26/12/2021 11:22

Couple of ideas for you…
Light feeling, hydrating, moisturizing. Unlikely to cause irritation. Nothing exciting re fragrance, silky feeling. www.stylevana.com/en_GB/beauty-of-joseon-dynasty-cream-3.html

Impressive knowledge @Justilou1
Branleuse · 26/12/2021 17:50

The amount of times that the samples are amazing and the full size product is underwhelming though....

whataboutbob · 26/12/2021 17:54

Could this be because you apply the little tester sample of Chanel very carefully and scrupulously, whereas with a cheaper brand you just slap it on/ use it every other day etc? I like the mid range French brands such as La Roche Posay. A lot depends on using regularly and applying well.

Justilou1 · 27/12/2021 00:04

Thanks @BlackAlys… have become a bit of an armchair expert due to having kids with eczema and me sorting out my own perioral/periorbital dermatitis (had a terrible doctor when I lived in another country who genuinely made me quite ill with several things, but she also gave me this lovely thing.) I sorted this out quickly and it never came back. Other seem stuck with it for years. Have always been an avid reader of ingredients lists and follower of “anti-aging” blurb so chose to educate myself properly. Now having midlife crisis and studying nursing with an aim to specialize in dermatology. (In Aus - we have a lot of dermatology patients!) So my advice if you want to keep up with the latest and most effective ingredients that don’t do more harm than good is to look to Japan and Korea for skincare. (And they’re also MUCH cheaper.) You can always order online from sites in UK or YesStyle or Stylevana (the biggest two I can think of.) Oh, and sunscreen every day without fail. James Welsh is a UK YouTuber who has a lot to say that I agree with also, so he’s a good one to check out re. UK pricing, etc. He seems very sensible and from what little I know, also very open about what is sponsored and what is not.

Hahaha what is that!

Anyway I'm sure they make the testers better than the actual thing to lure you in

SpiderFluff · 27/12/2021 06:55

@Fluffycloudland77

Is squalene the stuff that comes from olives?
Justilou1 · 27/12/2021 07:54

Yep… that’s the stuff! Don’t think it’s a bad product at all, but as everyone attests, it’s not something I’d sell my kidney for.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/12/2021 09:37

Be careful with Korean skincare if you don’t use anything tested on animals though.

LaBellina · 27/12/2021 09:46

I feel you, had the same with an overpriced Guerlain cream that was made by golden bees or something. I read another poster mentioning squalene oil, this and jojoba oil is actually very close to the natural oils our skins produce which is why it makes your skin look great. Squalene oil, jojoba oil and horse oil (check K beauty brands) will do that for you, just save yourself the price tag of the Chanel and search on Amazon.

LaBellina · 27/12/2021 09:47

Yes @SpiderFluff it’s in olive oil too. Some brands derive it from sharks Sad

LaBellina · 27/12/2021 09:48

The squalene oil not the olive oil

I've used this one, it's divine - highly recommended! And it's way cheaper.

Oh!! I'm going to check everything very carefully now then.
