Botox, how do you decide who to go with!?

Hoochyhoo · 22/12/2021 18:00

I’ve had two separate consultations.
One runs a local aesthetic place. The other is a doctor at a fairly local practise.

Does going with a doctor automatically mean they’ll do a better job?!

Any other things to look out for?

@Hoochyhoo No definitely not, look around read reviews and look at before and after pics, also someone that does it daily / multiple times a week is going to be better than someone who does it as a side job.

Unreasonabubble · 22/12/2021 18:03

The local aesthetic place, did your have a face to face consultation with a GP or was it just the beautician themselves?

Had a face to face consultation with both. A male gp at a local gp practise and a beautician type person who owns the aesthetic place.

The gp seemed to have more knowledge about the facial muscles etc but he was happy to administer it there and then where as the lady has had me to fill out a form and consider it because she said you need 24hrs between consultation and treatment.

I’ve heard of some people saying to check whether the person is on the saveface register. The gp is on it but she isn’t.

I chose a qualified person, who did it as their main job and had great reviews. Very happy.

Am happy to recommend Dr Hilary Allan at Woodford Medical, she has clinics in lots of places.

Notwithittoday · 22/12/2021 18:12

For me there was only one person in the whole of my area that uses the original
Allergan Botox. Everyone else was using other cheaper brands which don’t work on me. Luckily the lady is also good at applying. I wouldn’t go with anyone who was not a medical professional though. Nurse, Dr or dentist only. There are too many beauticians doing Botox and fillers these days. It’s shocking.

I’m in South Wales.

The aesthetic lady seems to have good reviews on her fb page and said she’s happy to show me previous work and for me to speak to previous clients.

I can’t find any reviews at all for the doctor tho :/

She did say she used to be a nurse (the aesthetic lady). Though I guess I’d just have to trust her word on that? I can’t exactly ask to see her qualifications can I? 🙈

@Hoochyhoo - I would advise you to go with GP. Botox is a regulated prescription only medication. The beautician is obviously doing this illegally as only a prescribing medically qualified person can prescribe this AFTER having a face to face consultation with you. They are not allowed to prescribe it via Zoom, Facetime etc. They also need to check your medical history to ensure that you will not have an adverse effect.

I sigh so hard when I see all these beauticians taking advantage of those not in the know. If it goes wrong for you, you will not be covered by their insurance as they obtained the Botox illegally for you. Or even worst still, they have a medical prescriber taking back handers to prescribe illegal prescriptions.

Too many young women these days go for their fillers, botox, lip enhancements and what they do not realise is the lack of insurance and also that the drug needed to dissolve the lip enhancements and fillers if they go wrong is prescription only and should ONLY be done by a medical professional.

Botox, if it goes wrong, you just have to live with it until it wears off.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE only go with those on SaveFace. There is a register for a reason.

Yes you can!!! I would and I would also check out her nursing qualifications on the Nursing and Midwifery Council site.

Omg I didn’t know there was one.
I’ll try and do a bit of research now.

🙏 thank you

He would give me confidence. Over 20 years medical experience (hence why he knows his anatomy).

Your beautician will only have attended a paid diploma beauty course with no medical regulations.

Notwithittoday · 22/12/2021 18:37

What gets me is that you see these beauticians fb pages, riddled with spelling mistakes and sometimes barely comprehensible written information and yet you’re expected to believe that they’ve read and fully understood complicated medical information about toxins, facial structure, muscles etc. I’m not normally picky about people’s general literacy but if they’re injecting my face it’s different

DillDanding · 22/12/2021 18:40

I would never have Botox administered by a beautician.

My dentist does mine.

I know of someone who started off doing lip injections with the "no needle" method. Took a few courses, does it with needles now. Offers loads of "tweakments" (and it gets worse) does PDO threads in a little room with no windows/ventilation or facilities to wash or sterilise anything. They are also advertising on their web pages that they are training for their nursing degree. This is just so they can eventually go on to get a prescribing degree and then then don't have to obtain prescription medicines illegally.

One day someone is going to be seriously maimed or even die from a non medical person doing what should be regulated. Sad

Unreasonabubble · 22/12/2021 18:53

This person Carol, is traceable through Companies House and is currently registered on the Nursing & Midwifery Council. You can also be confident in her.

So the final choice will be yours!! Grin

Oh well that’s reassuring lol. Does that mean she can legally get the Botox then? She did mention that she only uses the proper stuff and that some people use the cheaper brands which aren’t as good. The only thing that really put me off a bit better is the fact the room is a treatment room in her home, though I guess not always a bad thing?! The home and room is immaculate x

She is a qualified nurse, would you trust that? It’s my first time hence why I’m asking here x

Omg that’s shocking. The woman I went to see said some people are injecting stuff into peoples faces that isn’t even legally approved (fillers etc) 😮😲

@Hoochyhoo - Ohh! I jumped the gun! You will have to ask her if she is a prescribing nurse. If she is not, then... You do have to see the prescriber face to face.

Thatswhatmamasaid · 22/12/2021 19:24

I'd find an aesthetic doctor OP who does it day in, day out. Agree with PP that Botox is prescription only, how is the beautician getting it? You might need to go further afield perhaps if there isn't someone like that locally. The lips on the beautician's FB page look way overdone 😲

Hoochyhoo · 22/12/2021 19:42

They do look overdone. Though lips is not something I’d ever consider, lol.

How would I go about finding an aesthetic doctor locally especially a reputable one? X

babybrainandbabynames · 22/12/2021 19:46

@Hoochyhoo I would trust her, much prefer being able to see work she has done before!

My friend has finished her nurse training and is now training in botox and filler due to covid giving her severe anxiety she doesn't want to work in hospitals poor girl!
