if you dont like pj's

what do you wear?
I like the idea of an all in one, sort of like a nightie but not.
easy to pull on but not pj's.

what to wear for bed and lounging around when you dont want to make effort and prioritise comfort in winter? I hate tight elastic waists and worrying if a pants leg will be too long. I mean this as in not what you'd wear to have guests, but private, home stuff.

I need help cos my pj's are old, holey and fed up.

I wear soft, loose tracksuit bottoms and a similar jumper with vest underneath! In bed I take the top half off as recently got a brilliant electric blanket. Any other PJ set with long trousers for winter, is usually too thin and cold to be comfortable in our house.

GrimDamnFanjo · 07/12/2021 00:25

Kaftans! Layered with knitwear if chilly.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/12/2021 00:39

For sleeping I wear a nightshirt, but for knocking around the house in the evenings I have “lounge pants” which I wear with jumpers and a (sexy!) thermal vest. I really don’t like anything round my legs in bed though.

WeirdArchitecture · 07/12/2021 12:38

thank you.

I realised upon having to replace my current, old raggedy pj's that whenever i buy them i need something altering. Size S is not loose enough or lounging and size M is often enormous. Im not even petite but the legs are usually far too long, too. And ad i like natural fabrics they are really expensive to gamble on.

I cant find an ok nightdress though, i was wondering about a tunic style top with very soft leggings. So had a search and cant locate any soft tunics with long sleeves that dont have wild patterns (i like plain).

Crikey i make everything complex Grin

Kaftan sounds lovely for summer, yes!

In bed, starkers, lounging around a big fluffy dressing gown, now there is just OH and myself I can relax properly.

CaribouCarafe · 07/12/2021 13:15

Only came on here as I LIVE in my pyjamas so wanted to see the rationale for not liking them Shock

Could you find some pyjamas bottoms that sit on the hip/you can roll over the top onto your hip rather than your waist and have a cuffed bottom? The cuffed bottom stops it from hitting the ground if too long (I have short legs so have tried and tested this technique!).

Halfhardy · 07/12/2021 13:45

Lands End Sleep Ts. knee or calf length, long or short sleeves, print or plain. 100% cotton. Sizes are generous, you'd probably need S or XS.
Very comfortable and easy to wear. Look out for sales and special offers.

I do like them, but i think im tired of them not fitting correctly and being too long. I also dont like pj tops (the shirt style) and you often have to pay for that, too, to get the bottoms!

I do get cold legs and feet in winter so really couldnt go bare. It is such a shame, i have spent a small fortune ordering them over the past few years and nearly all of them were a bad fit.
I am a uk6/8 but always find size 12 pj's best for comfort. But nowadays the 12 is massive and the 10 is a bit clingy. I also hate elsticated waists.

Nighties.

Not worn pjs since I was about 11 and am now middle aged.
Can't stand all that fabric round my waist and on my legs.

I have a selection of spaghetti strap nighties, slightly more covering ones and some with long sleeves for winter.

Mostly all knee length, made from viscose or cotton or silk.

buy from J Lewis, M&S (rarely lately as all horrible) and The White Company.

WeirdArchitecture · 07/12/2021 16:14

example, i like these from COS but if the model is 5'10 then the length would swamp me completely. I dont want to have to pay to get bloody pj's altered.
It never used to be this way, but recently the lengths are just silly. It presumes the majority of the market are over 5'10.

And they are even too long for the model! It isnt just COS either, by a long shot.

And OP if you feel the cold invest in a higher tog duvet and you won't need layers of clothes under it.

God I couldn't stand wearing all of that in bed. I want to feel I have less on than out of bed, not trussed up in trousers and a shirt :)

each to their own. :)

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 07/12/2021 16:24

I sleep in nothing. But to lounge about, I wear M&S ankle length hooded, sweater lounge dresses.
They are so comfortable and have pockets

CaribouCarafe · 07/12/2021 17:39

Yeah there often isn't a good selection for petite women (I'm one too!). Have to admit I got my mother to tailor my latest pyjamas for me!

Seconding Landsend nightwear. I love the supima cotton jersey nighties in various lengths of hem and arm. Really smooth thick cotton and wash brilliantly. Decent too if you are glimpsed by the postperson.
ExquisitelyDecorated · 07/12/2021 18:16

For lounging around leggings or jogging bottoms, long vests/teeshirts/hoodies. I hate pyjamas the trousers never fit properly and they gape at the lower back when I sit down. Also it would seem weird wearing them around the house rather than in bed, I wear nightshirts for bed.

Anaximedes · 07/12/2021 23:28

Soft crop top bra thingy, sometimes a T-shirt or vest, sometimes pants, sometimes all 3, or nothing at all. In a hotel or someone else's house, sometimes PJs or crop top plus PJ bottoms or an actual nightshirt which is a bit longer than a T (although more often, unless it is cold, I'll just have them to hand to sling on if I need the bathroom or there is a fire alarm, rather than actually sleeping them in).

Anaximedes · 07/12/2021 23:32

If you have short legs, Primark loungewear legs tend to be a bit on the short side. I have a rellie who swears by them. I got some lovely knitted leggings from there once with a cable-knit look (in acrylic, wool makes me itch anyway). I wore them for lounging around in and not in bed, but they were in the sleepwear range. Some things in there aren't very good, but some are very comfy and wash and wear well. These were very cosy, kept their shape. Took me ages and ages to wear them out.

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/12/2021 00:13

Nothing in bed. I CANNOT understand how anyone does.

Pull-on-y trousers and a t-shirt/jumper around the house

LumosSolem · 08/12/2021 00:36

For lounging- a velour tracksuit I got in M&S recently, in 2002 I'd have worn something like it out of the house but it's strictly loungewear these days

In bed- big comfy pants and an oversized nightie. Can't stand the feeling of pyjama trouser legs and waistband all around me.

mrssmiling · 08/12/2021 06:39

Would it be worth looking at large teen sizes too? They may fit.
This looks comfy.

Because at this time of year I get cold if I wore nothing. I don't understand why you don't get that.

I am tallish but not very tall at 5'7" and find pyjamas are never long enough for me. I wear cotton knit nighties - mostly huge T-shirt style ones. I find pyjama trousers too hot in bed, and prefer to be commando when sleeping.

In the house I wear jeans, joggers, leggings or magic trousers.

Itsnotdeep · 08/12/2021 06:58

I have tracksuits bottoms for lounging around in and then take them off for bed. Have a really thick heavy 15 tog down duvet .

I was looking yesterday and saw some onesies (can't remember where - Hush or Gap) - maybe they're the answer? I don't like getting pyjamas twisted around my body at night.

BriocheForBreakfast · 08/12/2021 07:05

My Lands End pjs have a cord for drawing in the waist and I love them for lounging. Usually wear others for sleeping in though as the jersey feels thicker than my other pjs so I think I'd be too hot.

I agree with PPs saying they are generous in size so I think you should consider an XS.
