Dry lips

Hi all, not sure this is the right topic but I'll try.
I'm looking for advice re dry lips treatment. This is chronic. Been suffering for about three years and it's driving me mad. Especially in the winter.
Carmex used to be my go to, and it worked exceptionally well. However I've developed an allergy to it so can no longer wear it.
So many of the over the counter ones, similar allergies, or just not effective enough.

I use Lucas pawpaw just now. No reactions to it, but it's only slightly helpful. My lips are just badly cracked with fine lines developing ( previous steroid cream to help with allergic reactions).

Any miracle products or ideas. Please no MLMs. Thanks

@courtshoe O Keefes. There hand cream is amazing too! Smile

TinaYouFatLard · 04/12/2021 08:26

I know this sounds weird but I kind of became addicted to lip balms/treatments. The more I used the more I needed it. I now refuse to use anything on my lips and they’re much better. I drink a lot of water and hydrate from the inside.

Wooky8 · 04/12/2021 08:27

Second O'Keefe's. Only product that works for my winter chapped lips.

LefttoherownDevizes · 04/12/2021 08:30

Do you know what you're allergic to?

My go tos are Elizabeth Arden 8 hours one in pot, and tube but less good for really dry lips. And La Roche Posay cicaplast lipsis good if your lips are in crisis, whilst it's not as thick as the others it's really soothing for reactive lips. Tend to use it for recovery from impetigo and cold sores.

WhenSepEnds · 04/12/2021 08:32

The Nuxe Rev de Miel one in the pot is FAB (not the stick though, that's rubbish) can get it online or in marks and Spencer

LoveGoogle · 04/12/2021 08:36

Have you tried Lansinoh? works brilliantly for me. Most people look at me oddly when I suggest it, it's supposed to be used as nipple cream for breastfeeding. I find it's very gentle and works quickly.

Dizzywizz · 04/12/2021 08:44

Oh I get this, have just bought some o’keeffes so fingers crossed it works. Lansinoh didn’t work for me, I have tried it

sandgrown · 04/12/2021 08:46

My daughter swears by Nuxe Reve de Miel

Lndnmummy · 04/12/2021 08:48

My lips are the same OP, I became allergic to carmex too. I use the sheabutter one from L'occatine and it does a great job. I use it on my boys as well.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 04/12/2021 08:51

I use La Roche-Posay Cicaplast barrier repairing balm, you can get it in Boots. Really good at healing as well as protecting.

Enzbear · 04/12/2021 08:51

Burt's bees watermelon

AnnaMagnani · 04/12/2021 08:57

The more I used Carmex, the more I needed lip balm.

Once I clocked this I gave up and lips returned to normal. Maybe not amazing, but normal lips without cracks and massive chapped bits.

So same as @TinaYouFatLard no lip balm was better than any lip balm.

inevitablytired · 04/12/2021 09:01

I suffered with awfully dry lips all my life, constantly peeling and cracking, but since trying lanolips I only have to put it on once a day and my lips are fine. I highly recommend it!

Astitichintimesaveswine · 04/12/2021 09:05

I used Lansinoh, I think it was after reading about using it on your lips on here. It really improved my cracked lips. I don't need to use it now.

karmapolicewoman · 04/12/2021 09:07

Third recommendation here for Lansinoh. Magic stuff for lips too. It can heal bleeding, chapped nipples after all.

CrikeyPeg · 04/12/2021 09:18

@Enzbear

Burt's bees watermelon
I love their vanilla, my current fav.
GoodnightGrandma · 04/12/2021 09:20

I like the Neutrogena one when they’re sore.
I use Liz Earle Superskin at other times.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 04/12/2021 09:24

Another Nuxe Reve De Miel fan here.

courtshoe · 04/12/2021 11:38

Thank you all. Really appreciate it. I'm so desperate to find something that works, that I've literally ordered three of the products mentioned above on Amazon. Two arrive later today, so I'll let you know how I get on

If you pop a bit of Sudocrem over any broken lips overnight it will do wonders.

In addition Vaseline every day as a maintenance routine.

BillywigSting · 04/12/2021 11:42

Another burts bees here, though fair warning, there may be ingredients in it that you are allergic to. What you really need to do is figure out what ingredients you react to and avoid those.

Also similar to a previous poster, drinking lots and lots of water really does help, far more than any balm

honeylemonteaforme · 04/12/2021 12:23

If you don't get on with the lip balm options try a Clinique lip gloss

courtshoe · 04/12/2021 12:36

Yeah Burts Bees doesn't agree with me either. And I've tried Clinique which doesn't really help.
No idea what the allergy is, and I think it's very unlikely this would warrant an NHS referral for allergy testing.
But keen to hear if anyone has had similar experiences and how they found out

LefttoherownDevizes · 04/12/2021 13:46

If you can post the ingredients of one that you know you're allergic to can have a go. It's worth being careful with lanolin, whilst it's great for healing it's also a known allergen.

Which Carmex were you using? They are very perfumed/flavoured, which can be irritating in itself

Happyharry2003 · 04/12/2021 14:00

I 100% recommend Elizabeth Arden 8 hour tube. It’s about £12-15 but one tube lasts over 6 months. I used to get cold sores on my lips as they got so dry and sore and this is the ONLY lip balm that works on me and I’ve tried loads!!! Also if you put it on before bed it soaks in overnight
