I have nothing. What I had was a bit random and old and cheap and I binned it in lockdown.
If you were going to spend no more than £50, say, for the absolute basics what would you get?

OP posts:
PermanentLockdown · 29/11/2021 09:02

Tinted moisturiser
Heavier foundation
Blush
Lip pencil
Mascara
Eye pencil

Sunshineandrainbow · 29/11/2021 09:07

I would spend most of it on foundation and then cheaper bits.

Lancome foundation expensive but lasts me 6 months plus.
Wilko mascara and eyeshadow.
Nyx bronzer
L'Oréal primer
Garnier conceler

Groovytiger · 29/11/2021 09:11

Erborian CC cream. I have only just discovered it and it is an absolute game changer. I love it!

cloudtree · 29/11/2021 09:13

Foundation
Mascara
Liquid eyeliner
Blusher
Brown eyeshadow in a mid shade that will also double up for brows (and possible slight contouring)
Dark grey eyeshadow
Beige eyeshadow with a shimmer that will double as highlighter.
Lipliner in neutral shade darker than your lips
Lipstick

HelloBunny · 29/11/2021 09:17

Clinique Mascara
Colour drops to mix with face cream
Tinted lip balm
Champagne / Bronze highlighter

Bananasareyellow · 29/11/2021 10:33

Foundation
Powder
Matt bronzer
Mascara
Lipstick
Eye shadow
Blusher

JustLikea · 29/11/2021 10:52

Primark mascaras start from £1 and they're all fine and don't smudge. I have mascaras from Dior, shiseido, No7, eyeko, Clinique etc they're all quite similar if you use eyelash curlers and powder your eyelids and lashes before application

JustLikea · 29/11/2021 10:54

The best cheap foundations are from CYO or L'Oréal imho and Collection concealer is fab

StealthRoast · 29/11/2021 11:11

Following op. I have a ton of make up but haven’t wore anything during lockdown apart from blush and lipstick ( I always wear lipstick ) and I get my very dark eyebrows waxed and tinted.

I’ve recently joined Instagram and have followed lots of make up pages which are giving me some inspiration and i want to pretty much chuck away all of my make up and start again. I also want to learn how to apply it properly rather than just slap it on.

Superdrug MUA range is brilliant and really reasonable.

notacooldad · 29/11/2021 11:13

Tinted moisturiser
Highlighter
Creme Blush doubles up as a lip stain.
Mascara
Eye pencil

EmpressCixi · 29/11/2021 11:37

I would buy all ethical makeup if I were you.
I would go with a basic list of
Tinted moisturiser with SPF 15 or higher
Mineral based powder- pressed or loose
Cheek tint or blusher
Lip stick or stain
Mascara
Eye shadow pencils

EmpressCixi · 29/11/2021 11:37

I buy PHB. Not sure if allowed to post links to brands we recommend, so posting this seperatly

lunarlandscape · 29/11/2021 11:52

I'd go for Rimmel. It's a very reliable brand at a fraction of the cost of many other equivalent brands.

Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation
Rimmel Magnifeyes Nude Edition eye palette
Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick in a neutral pink that I'd also use as blusher
Rimmel eyebrow mascara (only needed if your brows are pale)
Maybelline Colossal mascara

That lot would come to about £30-35 and I'd spend the rest on good brushes and sponges and nail polish.

ReallyRatherBlonde · 29/11/2021 11:52

Primark for vitamin c serum and glow boost primer (I can't believe how good they are for the price). Nivea soft moisturiser. I can really see the difference in my make up if I don't use these 3 first they are a good base layer!
Then concealer and foundation but this is where I would spend a little bit more, I don't like Primark's versions. Maybelline's fit me range is very good I find, I also use the powder. Not too expensive either.
Aldi's Lacura mascara is amazing and such good value.
A cream blush that can also be a lip tint. Currently using a really old one from Boots
An eyeshadow that can double up for brows, I also use some as a sort of eyeliner on upper lids.
A highlighter stick if budget allows for cheek bones, under brows etc.

JustWhatIAlwaysWanted · 29/11/2021 11:57

Basics I would not want to be without

Foundation - currently on Boots Hydraluminous which is a good budget buy
Highlighter
Mascara
Clear lip balm or gloss
Lip colour in versatile shade, e.g. nude or light pink

Are you including any skincare in this or is it strictly make up? Primer?

EmpressCixi · 29/11/2021 12:07

@lunarlandscape is right about good brushes! It’s worth the money to get a good quality set.

LHOOQ · 29/11/2021 13:50

Not to be a dick, but it does depend a bit on skin type! If I had dry skin, I'd go concealer (I like Nars, but it's a bit out of budget maybe), No 7 perfect and protect foundation, Benefit Benetint (doubles up as lip stain and blush), mascara and eyebrow pencil.

If I had greasier skin, I'd go concealer, setting powder or mineral powder, powder blusher, mascara, eyebrow pencil and lip gloss.

LHOOQ · 29/11/2021 13:52

If you don't want to spend a lot on brushes, you can get decent sponges for a lot less and I find them pretty much as good. The ones with the pointy end and the flat bottom are good.

247SylviaPlath · 29/11/2021 17:34

Light foundation/ bb cream - no 7 hydra luminous is the best I’ve tried (and have tried a lot - also like eborian cc cream but is more expensive)
Deffo primark mascara and brow pencils / gels - cheap and effective
Lipstick - Mua (from Superdrug) - dirt cheap and really good
If you need brushes etc, Bh cosmetics do decent ones for not much money - their eyeshadows are good too

MrsPetty · 29/11/2021 17:50

Mac Face & Body foundation
Liquid concealer
Pressed translucent powder
Skin brightening powder ( Benefit Dandelion)
Blusher
Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara (Rich Black - best ever!!)
Mac Spice lip liner works with all colours
Chanel Madamoiselle lipstick
Rimmel brown eyebrow pencil
A highlighter such as Touche Eclat to slick cheeks and under brows for a little lift

And that’s my daily make up.
For going out I add eye shadow, eye liner, false eyelashes and red lipstick

BabsFiddle · 29/11/2021 17:57

cc tinted moisturising cream
mac lipstick - I love the Nippon shade
Eyebrow pencil
Mac paintpot for eyelids
mascara (only use when going out)

lunarlandscape · 29/11/2021 18:17

I need a lesson in how to use these. I keep buying them and abandoning them. Brushes are fine but with sponges the texture is never quite right.
onlychildhamster · 29/11/2021 18:37

Skin79 bb cream (if you are fair)/ MAC face and body (if you are darker)
nars creamy concealer
liquid eyeliner
cream eyeshadow stick in a shimmery brown
Liquid highlighter
Liquid bronzer wand (like the charlotte tilbury one)
Cream blush
lip stain/lip crayon
hydrating setting spray
mascara
Eyebrow pencil

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 29/11/2021 18:46

I would go on eBay/FB and buy some miniature sizes. There’s tonnes of stuff that people get in their BirchBox etc. Can get really high quality stuff dead cheap.
