What colour would you buy this coat in?

I want to buy a long down padded coat for winter walks. I had the colour black in mind, with visions of looking effortlessly chic (which I never manage to do 🤣) in the coat plus leggings and trainers and a perfectly impossibly glossy ponytail like all the yummy mummies round these parts (live in west London 🙄).
However I quite like the green/khaki colour too! But alas it’s not as chic or go-with-everything as the black is - is it?! I’m pale with brown hair. Indulge me - which colour would you go for?!

Khaki is very chic and I much prefer it.

Rodion · 25/11/2021 15:20

They are both nice. I like a khaki coat but agree it's not always quite as chic or go with everything - might not matter if it's just an everyday coat though? I think dark blue is my favourite of them, although that's not very helpful!

SmallProvincial · 25/11/2021 15:26

Luckily for you I am an expert in both puffa jackets and West London school mums :-)

For me - black puffa material can look cheap, esp in the sun. Blue looks like a school coat, light grey would get grubby... if I was under a size 14 (I am not) I'd go for the beige one (beige looks effortlessly classy with black), right now, I would go for the khaki.

I like the khaki too. I actually might order one for myself. I have been looking for a coat exactly like this! Thanks OP!

PineappleCakes · 25/11/2021 15:29

Pale with brown hair = not black. Khaki would probably suit your skin tone better, or navy if you want a dark colour.

SameToo · 25/11/2021 15:29

I would never describe those jackets as chic. They’re awful.

Eenymeanyminey · 25/11/2021 15:30

They're awful

@SmallProvincial please do share the current Chelsea boot tips.

Ahhhhhh Chelsea boots and cashmere!! I love this time of year...

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 25/11/2021 15:35

Not shopping this year, though Sad Sad

SpeckledyHen · 25/11/2021 15:38

I would buy khaki because it suits my autumn colouring season.
Black would only suit a winter colouring which I’m not and the reason I don’t own anything black.

What suits you best ?

IsThePopeCatholic · 25/11/2021 15:39

Khaki.

Livelifeinthebuslane · 25/11/2021 15:40

Olive. I'd like the light grey but it would be grubby the first time I wore it.

Lagirl20 · 25/11/2021 15:40

Thanks all! Khaki is it - glad to inspire some of you!

Ha, @neverenoughchelseaboots I swear by these ones from Camper (excuse long link, I haven't the patience to figure out hyperlinking): www.camper.com/en_GB/women/shoes/iman/camper-iman-K400299-001

They've been around for a few years, I buy a pair in black every time they're in the sale (I have three pairs at various stages of life).

They are the only boots I've put on that were immediately comfortable, and only today (on the school run, in my puffa jacket and cashmere snood) did I think "my feet are really comfy and warm right now".

The photos online make them look shorter than they are, they're a standard above-ankle height.

Occasionally I mess with Joules Chelea boots - as one of the only other brands that doesn't have that annoying shapeless baggy bit over the bridge of the foot. But always come back to the Campers.

Do you have favourites I've missed?

Much appreciate your expertise 😃 do tell on the cashmere snoods! Dressing around here is a minefield 😂

khaki or Navy, black is too harsh.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 25/11/2021 15:53

@SmallProvincial no. I'm terrible for deciding to invest in a decent pair every few months but can't find the perfect ones, so get yet another £30 pair that fall apart after a few months.

I'm tempted by these but I like to wear them with dresses and tights and so the furry trim wouldn't be right.

@Lagirl20 - for cashmere snoods for children, I recommend Olivier London (www.olivierlondon.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=snood) £36-£50 feels like a horrifying amount to spend on a child's scarf, but DD has been wearing hers every single cold day since she was 18 months old (she's now 5), so cost per wear is down to spending £10 on a scarf per year, which feels pretty reasonable. The benefit of a snood vs. a scarf means I'm not concerned about her getting it stuck in industrial machinery and being throttled.

For adults, I have this one: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/465279496/womens-lace-cable-100-cashmere-infinity?plkey=4b44feb84e915ae7eed8f6a0195ca59e39a5f0c6%3A465279496&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=black+cashmere+snood&ref=sc_gallery-1-2&frs=1 and feel genuinely disappointed if I leave the house without it.

Don't for one second think I have an impossibly shiny ponytail though, even my hairdresser volunteered that with the number of stupid babyhairs I have, my hair is a 'hopeless case'.

@neverenoughchelseaboots oooh I like those DM ones for winter, only question is, how far that fur goes down into the boot. On one hand I'd like it right to the toe for wintry-comfort, on the other hand that might make them unpleasantly tight.

EssexLioness · 25/11/2021 16:06

You can get similar looking coats that are down free. The process of collecting down from birds is agonising and extremely cruel - worth looking into Op if you are not already aware

IGotHam · 25/11/2021 16:07

My friend has this in olive and it's lovely in the flesh, much nicer and more expensive looking than the photos

I’m going to weigh in on this as another west London mum and puffer expert. I know what you mean about the shiny fabric on these although from recollection these seamless ones are more matte. Having owned a Uniqlo coat and a Cos one I’m much prefer the Cos and their Black Friday deal tomorrow should make the prices comparable. My Cos has a thicker and matte shell and the down feels more substantial. It’s also recycled polyester and recycled down so bonus school gate points for sustainability. In terms of cashmere accessories, you also need fingerless wrist warmers/mittens preferably in leopard print. Re the ponytail… I haven’t tried this yet but Facebook tells me I need something called a a Ponyfull.
SmallProvincial · 25/11/2021 16:25

@Chocolatecoatedkettlebell I have been all over cashmere wrist warmers for a few winters now - my latest is having our dry cleaner take up the cuffs of my winter coat, so that they are an inch or two above the wrist, and wearing wrist warmers underneath - shorter sleeves give the impression of height / arm length / slimness that I do not naturally have.

See also - headband, earwarmer, ski thingies - like a hat, but more West London :-)

I am googling a Ponyfull RIGHT NOW in real time. Thank you!

SmallProvincial · 25/11/2021 16:27

Ponyfull looks more like a butt-plug than anticipated... @Chocolatecoatedkettlebell

Still entirely worth a go vs. my sad skinny hair.

Genuine question: why is it important to you to look like everyone else?
