Radley bags

RoyKentsHairyBack · 19/11/2021 07:32

Am looking for a leather tote bag in a colour but have limited budget (£150 max). There are quite a few radley bags which come up on John Lewis which fit the bill but in my mind these used to be a bit crap? Was never a fan of the dog tag and they were very stiff and not well made.

Any views? Other options greatly received (especially if they are above budget but likely to have Black Friday deals :))

I'm looking at the Osprey ones currently. They look good if you are after something stiffer and square-ish.

We've edited the title for you, OP Smile

I'm not a massive fan of Radley but I have a Dukes Place crossbody which is like a tardis and has held up well. I think I removed the tag.

Florence1960 · 19/11/2021 08:24

I'm not sure why the hate here for Radley bags, I've got loads and they are fine. Whereabouts are you, OP?

Immaculatemisconception · 19/11/2021 08:26

I like Radley and I have a few. They are well made and they last.

SpinachIsAGatewayDrug · 19/11/2021 08:28

Radley bags are fine imo. I've had a couple that have lasted and lasted. Though these days they last because I never use a handbag at all 😁

I just think they became really popular for a few years so then it became cool to hate them.

RoyKentsHairyBack · 19/11/2021 08:33

Ah thank you. I think I remember them from the early '00s where lots of people in my office had the same black boxy one with the dog.

I will pop into house of Fraser today and take a proper look.

I have seen some osprey ones I like plus some Coach (but they have to have a pretty hefty Black Friday discount). One or two on the Cambridge satchel company but I'm not really a satchel type of lass. I do like fossil too but have seen quite a few reviews which were scathing on quality.

It's a minefield! It's dhs present to me for Christmas so I have to send him a few ideas.

Zatchels do some lovely totes

Marmite27 · 19/11/2021 08:41

I’ve had a cross body Radley that finally gave up the ghost this year after 15 years of daily use. They hold up well!

I’m getting a new one for Christmas. We have an outlet store near us, and everything was under £99. They had some lovely stuff in, I’d have had 2 or 3 if I had the money and inclination to use anything else on a daily basis!

PanettoneSeason · 19/11/2021 09:06

@RoyKentsHairyBack Worth noting if you’re anywhere near an outlet store that Radley do a fantastic Black Friday sale at outlet! My DM and MIL love their bags and the year before last I got current season bags on BF weekend in one of their outlets that were in the Radley shop at full price at £229 each and I got them for £59 and £69!!

Wouldof · 19/11/2021 09:28

I have a few Radley handbags, crossbodys, leather and canvas. Love them all.

OldTinHat · 19/11/2021 09:44

I only recently 'found' Radley (four years ago) and love the brand. I have a purse that fits everything and its mother (!), a small 'hand' bag and a rucksack bag which is small and I use every day. The tag is only on the small bag, not on any of the others.

MoonbeamSprinkles · 19/11/2021 09:48

I wouldn’t buy one from house of Fraser, go to an outlet or a tk max they have loads in.

I think that’s why they aren’t as popular now to be honest, they diluted their brand with outlets.

Still nice bags though so if you like one get one but I think that’s why people are snobby about them now.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 19/11/2021 10:42

I bought one and it looked really worn out after about a years use, colour scuffed off and leather wore down. I wouldn't buy one again. Coccinelle make nice bags and the sales are good.

Pheebs2021 · 19/11/2021 11:17

I've just seen a beautiful one on the coach sale... let me see if I can find it again.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 19/11/2021 11:41

I have always felt the same way about Radley but have just ordered this as I fell in love with the colour!

Have a look on Brandalley too as they often have some good deals.

Inthesameboatatmo · 19/11/2021 11:58

Tk maxx often have Radley, maybe check there .

IloveJudgeJudy · 19/11/2021 15:53

DM bought a Radley bag £100+ which is expensive for her. It lasted less than 2 years as, instead of the handle attaching to the body of the bag by metal ring, it was leather rings that looked worn very quickly.

I have a Coach hobo that has lasted really well and a Kate Spade handbag that still looks great. I know Kate Spade do lovely tote bags.

AnotherMansCause · 19/11/2021 16:03

I’ve got a very small, plain Radley purse which I got quite cheap in TKMaxx, had it about 4 years so far. I only got it because it’s small enough to fit in my inside pocket.

I don’t like Radley bags generally though, they look pretty dated TBH, like 15-20 years ago when they were virtually ubiquitous. The earliest ones were ok but the later designs were over designed & a bit try hard.

Mylee · 19/11/2021 16:04

I have an Osprey bag and it's lovely, really good quality and sturdy and has lasted me ages so far. If you're anywhere near Clarks Village in Somerset, they have an outlet which has some very good deals

TheLasrStraw · 19/11/2021 17:48

I really Iike mine which I got on Next for £200.

AnnieSnap · 19/11/2021 18:11

I felt for years that Radley was one of those tacky, but expensive brands. Then earlier this year, I was looking for a small (camera style) bag and saw several Radley ones that fitted at great prices on BrandAlley. I ended up with two, a red and pink one and a blue one. They seem very good quality and I’m really pleased with them.

lindyloo57 · 19/11/2021 18:28

I have a couple of over the shoulder styles which are fine, but my first radley bag the handles worn very badly, stitching came undone and the leather spliting on the handle, I took it back to jarolds were I brought it, and they sent it back to be checked, but they said it was were and tear ,I only had it a year, it did put me off for a while.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 19/11/2021 18:33

Bought myself a teeny red one for my graduation present to myself. I love them and have got ones over 10 years old that are fine.
