Is this suitable for a wedding?

Please tell me if this dress is ok for a wedding? I was thinking of wearing it with black strappy high heeled sandals (but open to suggestions).

I'm a lot shorter than this model (5'5"), so it looks less leggy but is still above the knee. Is it too short? The ceremony isn't in a church if that makes a difference.

Would be grateful for opinions and any tips on how to style. Thanks!

Is it in the summer?

Yes it's fine, it's a bit short in the model but she looks about 6'

belimoo · 16/11/2021 09:28

Thanks for the replies. It isn't a summer wedding, it's later this month. Does that make a difference?

@ChiefInspectorParker thanks, I have a bag similar to your description so will go with that. I'd like to be medium formal I guess, I don't really know the couple so won't feature in anyway but don't want to stick out. The boots are awful aren't they! Do you have any suggestions for better shoes? I know high heels are outdated but can't really wear trainers or boots to a wedding can I?! Am I right that court shoes are even more outdated than sandals?

I think it might be a bit cold. Are you going to wear tights?

belimoo · 16/11/2021 09:42

@PingedPotato that's a very good point, I wasn't planning on tights as I'm not sure they'd look right but I do get cold easily.

I can't really imagine how to dress for a winter wedding in a warm way to be honest!

I think a knee length or midi dress might be better. Or...a jumpsuit? Naice trousers and a top?

belimoo · 16/11/2021 10:09

I don't own a jumpsuit, never been sure I'd pull one off tbh. My naice trousers all look a bit officewear and I don't really want to buy anything new. I'm just going to be cold aren't I!

I also have this dress if it's better?

Oh I prefer that one tbh. With something on top coz it will get chilly
IDontThinkSoNo · 16/11/2021 10:22

I think the first dress is lovey and perfectly fine for a wedding op

Bonnealle · 16/11/2021 10:22

Much prefer the top one. I would wear with opaque tights and ankle boots and soft blazer style jacket.

Bluntness100 · 16/11/2021 10:48

I think the second dress is more formal for a wedding.

MyAnacondaMight · 16/11/2021 10:59

It looks maybe more like a night out dress than a wedding dress, but you wouldn’t be making any great faux pas. I wouldn’t buy it especially for a wedding, but if you have it already then you could wear it. You’ll be cold though!

www.phase-eight.com/product/annie-dobbie-pleat-dress-22056246018.html I got this for an upcoming winter wedding, when it was on sale. I’m going to wear a thermal vest and shorts underneath!

MyAnacondaMight · 16/11/2021 11:00

Second dress much more suited for a wedding!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 16/11/2021 11:04

They both say ‘night out’ not ‘wedding’ to me.

belimoo · 16/11/2021 11:36

Hmm, looks like it might not be suitable then! Back to the drawing board...

A thermal vest is a great idea! I've basically lived in pyjamas since last March and feel like I've totally lost touch with what's appropriate to wear.

With black tights and heeled ankle boots and a big fur coat would be ok for a wedding in December

I love this dress, perfect for a wedding. Where’s it from @belimoo?
tolerable · 16/11/2021 13:11

the first dress is lovely.you could wear boots..maybe go wild with bright pink, feet and pashmina\shawl\fur?

belimoo · 16/11/2021 13:17

Ah some more positive relies, thanks!
@Hetty0 it's from Reiss.

I don't have any kind of fur jacket unfortunately but maybe I should look into that as I agree it would work best (and be warm!)

I'm not sure I can pull off pink boots but I like the idea!

Loads of brown fur shrugs on vinted. Something like this would work.

I like the one in the op, but agree it will be too cold without tights...

How much of the wedding is outdoors though? If it's all in one building for example (no church), you might be ok?

belimoo · 16/11/2021 16:28

Thanks for the suggestions, that shrug is a steal! The boots are a bit glam for my style but would definitely add something!

The whole wedding is in one venue so I'm hoping there won't be much time outside at all...

I'm on the hunt for a faux fur coat now thanks to you all! I feel happier about spending on that as I'd wear it more often than a dress bought specifically for a wedding.
