Tragus piercing

Hi all,
I'm
Thinking of getting my tragus pierced. I don't know if I'm too old for it I'm 35. Also I'm not sure if it will suit me. But my question was the healing process and pain? How painful is it to get done? I've had my helix and that didn't hurt much at all but it took ages to heal 100%. How long is the healing process? How long can you not sleep on it?
Also if I decide to take it out day 10-15 years down the line, will the hole be visible ? Any one has any experience with this? Or will it close over properly? I know there will be a slight mark even in the best scenario, ( closed my nose hole and you can only see if close up) but I'm happy with the small mark opposed to a clear hole.
Sorry I know they are random questions but they are actually in my mind.
Would love to see your tragus piercings.

Thanks

Ha! I'm 44, got it done a few weeks ago. The piercing wasn't painful but sleeping on it was. It should take 12 weeks - cleaning twice a day and not twizzling it - although I reckon by 8 you could switch it. More painful than helix but nothing serious. Hope that helps.

HighHighHopes · 05/11/2021 21:45

I had mine done at 50. It was 'crunchy' when they put the needle through but it was fine. Not really painful.

It took an AGE to heal though compared to my daith. I ended up getting a travel pillow and using that on top of my bed pillows, lying on my side with the ear in the hole/space in the travel pillow. Took maybe 10-12 weeks to settle.

I love it now though.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/11/2021 21:46

I had mine done at 49… not particularly painful, and healed really well (way quicker than the helix I got done at the same time).

friesandchais · 06/11/2021 00:54

Oh wow @RosieCockle 8-12 weeks isn't bad definitely going to go for it then thanks 😊

@HighHighHopes crunchy 🤢 I've heard a few
ppl mention this sounds gross but glad it was bearable. I hope I don't have to sacrifice my sleep too much 🤣 not now that my 4 year old finally sleeps through the night. thank you

@Purplecatshopaholic oh I'm glad it healed quicker than the helix that for me definitely took time, although it wasn't painful the whole time it was just each time It got knocked it would be sore. Thanks

I’m early 40’s and had it done a couple months ago. It was the easiest piercing, I did not feel it. My helixes were 10x more painful. I did actually ask the piercer is that it when the needle went in 😂

Sleep on a neck airplane pillow and avoid ear phones for a few months.

Isabelle70 · 06/11/2021 06:36

@friesandchais I am so pleased you have asked these questions as I have been thinking about having mine done on and off for the last year.
I have a few days off next month so I might get it done...

Gensola · 06/11/2021 06:44

I had mine done at 33, it didn’t hurt at all but I felt a weird sort of popping as it went through. It healed well, but I couldn’t use headphones in my ear for about a year, I can now though. I had the jewellery changed at 3 months to one with a shorter back to make headphones easier. I absolutely love it, I have a little gold star in it. Thinking about getting it changed for a piece of Maria Tash but £££

LadyJJ · 06/11/2021 09:15

I've got mine , it definitely healed quicker than my helix.
Ha agree re the cartilage crunch.
I'm 50 and have 10 ear piercings.

friesandchais · 06/11/2021 10:36

Oh wow everyone I'm definitely going to get it done now. @Isabelle70 I'm exactly the same for the last year thinking about it too. Update is you get it done. I'm going to go for it too. Good luck 🤞 thanks everyone

@friesandchais what side are you going for? I wonder if you have to have an ugly trainer stud whilst it heals?

Popopopo · 06/11/2021 20:15

I have both traguses (tragi?) pierced and found them to be very similar in pain / healing to my helix (from what I remember anyway, i got them done as a teenager, I'm 35 now)

When I take it out there is quite a clear, obvious hole which I dont think will ever go away to be honest. It will be noticeable if you decide you dont want it anymore, however I absolutely love mine still and can't imagine ever doing that!

Mine didn't crunch, but my rook did and it was honestly not as bad as it sounds

friesandchais · 08/11/2021 20:42

@Isabelle70 I'm going for my left side. I know those studs are awful. How about you?

friesandchais · 08/11/2021 20:43

@Popopopo oh really , I thought the hole would probably be a lot less noticeable. Thanks for
Letting me know

@friesandchais I was thinking of my right hand side. The only other piercings I have are 2 in each lobe, but I don't use the second ones are they are not even on each ear. In fact I had one of the first holes redone in the summer as that was really uneven. The joys of having your ears pierced with a gun back in the day!

Awkwardusername · 08/11/2021 22:21

I got mine done a few years ago and I do love it but as others have said, it can be annoying with headphones.
I found it took the longest to heal out of all of my piercings, potentially because it gets knocked quite a bit (including things like putting bronzer on my face!) but it’s been painful and flairs up often!

friesandchais · 08/11/2021 23:31

@Isabelle70 yes my loves were done by gun too.
Good luck with your tragus. Let me know how it goes.

@Awkwardusername oh no that doesn't sound good.

@friesandchais did you get your Tragus done? I had mine done this afternoon, it didn't hurt just a bit of a strange sensation and feels ok at the moment 😀

friesandchais · 07/12/2021 19:55

@Isabelle70 hey I haven't had the chance yet but will do it asap. I'm glad it didn't hurt. Can I see a pic?

Isabelle70 · 07/12/2021 20:55

@friesandchais here you go. Please excuse the horrible trainer studs! I had my other ear lobe piercing redone as well to even the lobes up as there was quite a difference. The piercer said I can go back in a few weeks and he said he will change the back of the Tragus as it's a ball at the moment. No touching and only sea salt and water bathing :)

Isabelle70 · 07/12/2021 20:56

And the photo!

friesandchais · 07/12/2021 21:53

@Isabelle70 looks awesome.. the trainer studs are never great and too big but once you change it will look even better.

friesandchais · 10/01/2022 19:49

@Isabelle70 hey 👋 how's the piercing healing now? Can you sleep
On it yet ? Is it still very sore ? I still haven't had the chance to get mine down yet can you believe ! Will do soon though x

whoopstheregoesmyshouldet · 10/01/2022 19:54

Well that's me thinking the tragus was somewhere else ! I'm intrigued to see how it heals. I had forward helix and it has healed so very slowly

Isabelle70 · 10/01/2022 21:10

@friesandchais it has healed fine, no problems at all. I used sea salt and boiling water to clean, twice a day to start and now I am doing it every other day, with no turning! I had it done on 7 December and I have been able to sleep on it for at least the last 10 days. I do have a old Tempur pillow with a middle dimple so I am not sure if that has helped.
I brought a Maria Tash diamond stud to go in and will most likely go to the piercer this week or next to have it fitted, fingers crossed 🤞

Isabelle70 · 10/01/2022 21:19

It was only sore for a few days whilst it had some swelling but never never hurt.
It was the other second lobe piercing that I had redone on the other ear where it was misplaced in the ear that gave me issues!
After a day or so I thought the ink to mark the spot had spread over my lobe, no amount of scrubbing would shift it! I then noticed the same colour on the back of my ear so then thought it was a reaction to the titanium!
No! Turned out they were bruises, in my sleep my lobe was folding an marking the front of my ear or it was imprinting on the back of my ear! I had a lovely earring back scrolled shaped bruise! After 2 weeks took the earring out for a regular gold earring
