bra advice please........had bra fitting and am rather confused!

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:01

I have today gone for a bra fitting. I have lost nearly a stone in weight (not intended, am stressed since car accident and can't eat as am stressed), and have gone from a size 10/12 down to a size 8 all over.

bra's are getting loose.......round back and in the cup.

and this is where the confusion lies......

I have alway apparently been (well, when not pregnant or feeding that is) a size 34 c.
that is now loose, so measured myself.

around my ribs I am 29"....and round my boobs I am 35". I think that makes me a 34B. went to be measured tho and the lady says 34C....fair enough, she is trained after all.

BUT....she comes back with some 34C (and B to see the difference) AND NONE OF THEM FIT.

I am bulging under my arms in the B cup (to which she said that toning mey help (what is it about the ladies....they want your service do they not??? flattery and tact go a looooooooooooooong way!!!!), yet 34C is too big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO WHAT DOES THAT MAKE ME????? ABNORMAL! (that is what the lady implied anyway....."ooh, well you are a bit of a different shape aren't you...hmm....tis going to be a wee bit difficult to find the 'right' bra for you")

have come away bra-less and sorry for myself.

OOooooh....and this is important too as DH wants to buy me pretty underwear for xmas and he doesn't want to buy the wrong thing.....ow fab is he

all help thanked by Mr Psycho

where did you go?

JingleyJen · 12/12/2007 16:05

Depending on where you went for fitting I would go somewhere else!

I have given up with M&S as they pointed out several times that there was nothing wrong with the bra's it was me that was the wrong shape - which I took execption to

However that doesn't help with your current dilema.

same as trouser sizes bra's are not all built equal - I am a 30G in some makes and a 34 FF in others (also have a 32H that fits nicely) but they are all different manufacturers.

There will be one out there that fits nicely -
try john lewis or debenhams or bravissimo they stock from lots of manufacturers so you should get lucky!

witchandchips · 12/12/2007 16:07

I'd try a 32C (or even D). Think that feeding creates the kind of boobs that work best with smaller back size as cup will be less wide iyswim.

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:07

see.....I went to M&S....may it is them then that is the problem!!

OP posts:
FrostyGlassSlipper · 12/12/2007 16:08

You just need a different style that's all. Go to a different store.

witchandchips · 12/12/2007 16:10

and try a 32 back

EllieKat · 12/12/2007 16:11

Bra sizes aren't uniform anyway, so if you had 'fitted' a 34C, say, there's no guarantee that another 34C would work for you. :-( The best bra fitters are those who don't rely on a tape measure, but do it by eye and their own experience. Some lingerie shops (like Rigby and Peller in London) will have staff who can do this, and probably won't charge either.

I'd use the 34C as a starting point and try sizes around that - 36B, even 34D? The cup shapes are going to vary so it's worth trying larger. Most women (even after fittings) wear a cup size too small, and a back size too large. Mind you, having said that, I went to Rigby and Peller because I'd despaired of finding a supportive, non-wired bra for pregnancy (M&S were useless) and they promptly put me into one, and although I know you're meant to wear them tight across the back for support, this one is verging on uncomfortable! :-)

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:11

ahhh.....so where is the best place then??

and many thanks for the rapid replys

JingleyJen · 12/12/2007 16:12

So if you have a bravissimo nearby or John Lewis they are my first & second choice to recommend

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:14

am in bournemouth. I could get to a John Lewis as there is one in Southampton, but where would the nearest bravisimo be (and isn't that for bigger boobs tho....thought they started at D cup, but could be talking out my tree there!)

fingerwoman · 12/12/2007 16:15

if you're near london then go to rigby and peller. I just went and they were absolutely fantastic.
have a well fitting bra for the first time in forever

JingleyJen · 12/12/2007 16:18

not great on geography but is this any good

here

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:19

rigby and peller would mean some major sucking up to mr Psycho (altho he probably would love that), and would mean going between Xmas and New Year (and what is London like then????).

BUT, if they really are fab, then it may ndeed be worth it.

in fact, my girlies want to go back to the bloch ballet/dance shop up there, so would kill two birds with one stone!

may be worth the sucking

Somebody somewhere has started selling bras in half sizes but I can't bl**dy well remember who...sorry that's really not much help is it weak

fingerwoman · 12/12/2007 16:22

they don't only do super expensive stuff. I got 2 nursing bras for about £35 each, and they had stuff on display that cost a whopping £90!!!!

but they do all kinds of brands, not just their own.
there is one in bluewater now as well

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:23

jingly....none near me, am guessing that london would be the best bet and can then do rigby and peller and bravissimo in one hit (and bloch too).

now got to test their measuring theory

OP posts:
heymammy · 12/12/2007 16:23

...ah right, just googled, it's Playtex. Might be worth a look.

at you bra fitter though, she really knows how to make someone's day.

HappyChristmasWalrusIsOver · 12/12/2007 16:30

R&P are exce;lent

Have a look around to see if there are any specailist undie shops by you. We have onenear us (with the rather uninspried names "Perfect Fit") who stocxk all sorts of stuff and they measure you properly

ChristmasSendsMePsycho · 12/12/2007 16:40

walrus...where abouts is that???

OP posts:
FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 12/12/2007 16:41

You know R&P are the only option.

You saw the difference in me after going there. They may have cost me a small mortgage but sooooo worth it.

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 12/12/2007 16:43

At least she didn't tell you it would fit properly once you'd toned up

Maybe they did fit properly... you should have been wearing contacts so you could see yourself clearly.
