Can you recommend a decent lip salve/balm? I have a budget of about £20. They're so sore and chapped and it's not even that cold yet.

@dunkaccino

Don't use vaseline - those saying they use it multiple times a day don't seem to see it as a bad thing. You shouldn't need to continously apply a lip balm if it works.
Don't you use face cream every day? I do, twice, sometimes 3 times if my skin is particularly dry Confused

Leniege lipase can get on amazon absolute game changer.

Inthesameboatatmo · 04/11/2021 12:19

Lip mask even Confused

Nuttymonkey · 04/11/2021 12:21

Carmex but get the cherry flavour as the non flavour one is vile! It's the only thing that works on us all over winter

LemonSwan · 04/11/2021 12:26

Agree that the healing and maintenance are different. Maintenance tends to be oily/ sticky/ thick and sit on top. Healing creams need to completely absorb.

I swear by Savlon for healing. Its the only thing which ever fixes mine. Plaster it on overnight and try not to eat it as it doesnt taste nice. Lips will be completely different by morning.

CointreauVersial · 04/11/2021 12:26

Check you aren't allergic to lanolin. DD1 spent months plastering on lipbalm, but her lips got worse and worse, until we worked out that the lanolin in her lipbalm was actually the cause! I know Neutrogena is free from it, but Lansinoh is not.

acatcalledjohn · 04/11/2021 12:29

Blistex Medplus. It's my saving grace.

DocMarteens · 04/11/2021 13:04

Might be worth drying Bio oil dry skin gel? Otherwise nipple cream might help?

Blistex relief cream, keep it in the fridge.

Marmite27 · 04/11/2021 13:28

@desperate4spring

Lansinoh nipple cream. Best lip balm I've ever used.
Be careful with this, I was fine with it on my nipples, but it caused agony on my lips!

I usually use calmex or blistex. Though my young DC have got into lipbalm this year so I bought a load from home bargains/ pound world. I have an allergy that makes my lips itch and swell. When they stop being swollen they’re very dry and sore. We were away last week when I had a reaction to something and they’ve worked better than the expensive ones this time.

Femwitch · 04/11/2021 13:33

Weleda skin food
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream
Lansinoh

are my go-tos

Blueuggboots · 04/11/2021 13:38

Drink loads of water! I get really chapped lips of I don't drink plenty. They're fine if I drink 2 litres of water a day at least.

Femwitch · 04/11/2021 15:06

Just looked and all 3 of mine are lanolin based - they work great for me but clearly you'd be in all sorts of trouble with any of them if you had a lanolin allergy

booklover164 · 05/11/2021 22:35

Oh wow thank you so much for all of the suggestions. I am actually blown away by the responses. I have got the nipple cream in the cupboard so will start with that. I think they do need some care and I absolutely agree that I don't drink enough water or look after myself enough. I bloody love mumsnet! Thanks all.

Lanolips. Has lanolin like Lansinoh, but also lanolin oil. It’s even better than Lansinoh.

Redruby2020 · 05/11/2021 22:52

You could try Cymex especially at night before bed so it can get to work. And yes as many others have said, a good old tin of Vaseline just the plain one for now, to use especially when you will be outdoors. I would say lip balm stick types too, but many have added colour/fragrance, and SPF, which as great as that sounds, some can give a bad reaction, which I have experienced quite a few times!

soberfabulous · 05/11/2021 23:47

[quote Lanaa]You need Blistex. Ignore the cold sore suggestions - It's brilliant for chapped, sore lips. They stopped making the original for a while so tubes are going for upto £100 on eBay but this is the American version and is the same.

Put it in all day and at night pop it on and "seal" It with Vaseline l/ you'll wake up with new lips.

I've tried almost every recommendation on this thread and this stuff is the best.

I was coming in to say the same...and I had wondered where it had gone! A friend of mine was recently in Berlin and found a few tubes for me, it has been awful living without it!
