Daith Piercing?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 29/10/2021 15:15

I'm considering a Daith Piercing after falling in love with the look of the one below. But I'm worried about the pain. I had my top ear cartalidge done with a gun 25 years ago and I still love it, but haven't considered another piercing until now. I'm 40. But a very trendy 40. But am I too old for this?? Is it really painful? How long will it take to heal so that there's no pain, and how is it practicality wise (I'm thinking sleeping, brushing hair, ear bud headphones etc)

Btw: I do realise I wouldn't actually be able to have a hoop like that in it for about a year though!

Hi there. I had mine done to help with migraine. It didn't hurt much at all and although it takes a while to heal, as long as you follow the guidance given it really isn't an issue. I had a small hoop at first and it didn't get in the way or cause problems sleeping. After about 6 months I had a larger one put in with no difficulty. The main thing is to research a proper piercer to do it for you, not someone from a salon. It will be done with a needle too. Good luck!

purpledagger · 29/10/2021 15:23

I had my daith done for my 40th a few years ago.

I hadn't had a piecing done since my lobes (when I was a baby!). It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would.

OrangeBlossom28 · 29/10/2021 15:23

I had mine done with a needle (don't have a gun for cartilage piercings ever) and used Emla numbing cream beforehand which worked really well. It's tucked away so not a bother to sleep on, unlike a helix! I filled a small spray bottle with salt water and used that twice a day to help with healing.

hairyhoarder · 29/10/2021 15:24

Hey OP
Strongly recommend getting it pierced, didn't hurt in the slightest - took a while to heal, was crusty and pussy for a while (9-12 months)
Mines been done for two years now, I had it pierced with the ring I'm wearing now - have never touched it, way too fiddly!

Oh and to answer the age - of course you're not too old!

GiantCheeseMonster · 29/10/2021 15:37

You can have it done with a ring like that straight away if you want! If you’re anywhere near Manchester, check out Holier Than Thou on FB. Absolutely brilliant piercers and their hygiene and cleanliness is amazing.

MsWalterMitty · 29/10/2021 15:46

I had the room rook done a few years ago at 36, didn’t really hurt when having it done…. Just take a long slow outward breath just as they do it. Seemed to help me!

I’m having my conch pierced tomorrow, and my nose… the thought of my nose scares me more even though it’s not as thick or cartilagey

StressyMcStressFace · 29/10/2021 16:06

I had mine done when I was 50 so if you're old I'm ancient!! I love it! Pinched a bit at the time but no problem healing up. Just kept it clean and I've never had any bother with it - go for it!

RepentBirthingPersonFucker · 29/10/2021 16:24

I have my daith pierced
I also have top of the ear and tragus. The daith hurt the least and, although it too a while to heal, is nicely tucked away so doesn't catch on anything
The only thing I don't like is not being able to change the ring myself. I just can't get to it

bettertimesarecomingnow · 29/10/2021 16:28

Mine didn't hurt but it's never really healed properly and I find crusty bits in it all the time.

Not sure why or what to do about it! I got it for migraines so I don't really want to have it taken out. It's kinda grown a lump too around the piercing. V annoying

TerribleCustomerCervix · 29/10/2021 16:39

I got it done about six months ago and it’s been healed for a few months now. I’m 33.

The pain at the time was fine- it was the unexpected crunching noise as they went through the cartilage which was the worst 😖.

I had some pain and swelling in the few weeks after, but nothing that an occasional ibruprofen didn’t sort out. My piercer gave me a dettol minor injuries spray which he said he noticed helped people heal a bit quicker.

I’ve had a flat helix on the other ear done and the daith was much easier to heal- because it’s so tucked away it won’t get tugged when you’re changing your clothes, taking masks and glasses off and on etc.

I had mine done there in January and I totally agree. They are great.

My hoop is rose gold and very similar.
It did hurt, but more because my ear is quite small and there was a bit of fiddling about. It's soon over though and my healing has been better than my other piercings because it's tucked away.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/10/2021 16:59

So do they help migraine?

GreenVaseline · 29/10/2021 17:42

I'm 61 and I've got a daith piercing – I think I must be the oldest so far.

Mine was done years ago. The pain of the actual piercing wasn't too bad and it honestly hasn't given a moment's trouble since. Like other posters have said, it's tucked inside the ear so it's pretty well protected from catching and snagging on things while it heals.

I've worn a clicker in my daith similar to the one in your pic, but currently rocking a discreet rose gold hoop.

ChrissyPlummer · 29/10/2021 17:54

Another recommendation for Holier Than Thou! Mine was fine and healed quickly (once the lovely people at HTT corrected the mistake that my original piercer did Hmm). I’ve got both done, one a bar, one a hoop. I can’t wear earbuds/in ear headphones in the ear with the hoop for long. Doesn’t bother me as I love my Bose Quiet Comfort.

TheVolturi · 29/10/2021 17:59

I really wanted mine doing for the migraine reason mostly, but my friend has just gone through hell after hers got infected, years after she had it done, she's had loads of courses of antibiotics, been admitted for iv antibiotics and still not right, she's having to have it drained now as it's like one of those rugby injury ears. So I've been put off!

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 29/10/2021 18:02

Another recommendation for HTT. I won't go anywhere else.

My Daith healed fast - but I subscribe to the school of "leave it the fuck alone" when it comes to my piercings.

Did it help with your migraines?
OrangeBlossom28 · 29/10/2021 19:42

I had my daith done to help with my bad headaches and it's made a huge difference.

Desolate2nite · 29/10/2021 20:13

I'm 55 and I had mine done last May. Didn't hurt and it is healing fine. Helped with my migraines and looks good 😊

howdidigettobe50something · 29/10/2021 22:15

Ohberry- yes it did - definitely recommend!

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 30/10/2021 21:19

Oh I'd love a daily piercing but I'm deaf so it would get in the way of my hearing aids sadly.

They are such a stunning piercing though

I just have 2 piercings in each lobe

I know this is an old thread...but I can I ask where this earring (daith) is from? :)

It looks just like mine and mine is Maria Tash (CZ not diamond)

wasahoarder · 27/08/2023 08:40

@dansha yes good spot @Settodonotdisturb it's Maria Tash. I went through a little phase of treating myself back when I had disposable income - ahh those were the days!

(I've name changed since)
