Maternity

Hello all

26 weeks pregnant here and I've come to the end of wearing all the stretchier clothes I already had in my wardrobe.

Bought a few maternity things online from boohoo (all sent back) and checked out the mat section in the Oxford Street primark. I have been reluctantly wearing the baggy see through maternity leggings and tights from there (🤢) and the jeans I bought just feel like they are falling down all the time. They are the ones that have a different material for the bump so there's like a cut off section just below my arse and it's so uncomfortable.

I splashed put on some dungarees from mama jojo but I just look like a bag of spuds. And they are uncomfortable.

I don't like baggy tops, never have. I have ample bust (32JJ) big hips and comparatively small waist. Im a size 16. If I wear baggy tops I look awful. I like tops that cup the bust, iyswim, so there is definition between them and my tummy.

I just want some good quality jeggings, jeans, tights, leggings. I want some tops that are flattering, I like people to know I'm pregnant and be able to see the bump.

I love jumpsuits and the idea of dungarees. Is there such a thing as tight fitting, wide legged dungarees??

I would like to go actual physical shopping but no shops seem to have maternity sections and if they do they are tiny and shit. Happy to buy online too if someone can vouch for quality! Can't afford seraphine prices.

I hope someone can help!

I liked Gap maternity clothes. They have sales and offers that make them not too expensive.

Honestly though if i had my time again I'd buy the seraphine basics set and not much else. Can you get seraphine preloved if you look on eBay or something? And Facebook groups for selling maternity clothes? Its worth having stuff you feel nice in, in my opinion.

I also loved a brand called Tilbea, small business run by mums, my eldest is three and I'm still wearing stuff from there I bought when I was pregnant with her! But not cheap.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 29/10/2021 11:49

You need H&M - and ebay. If you set up alerts for seraphine and isabella oliver in your size, you'll be able to get some nice stuff. It's great quality and shouldn't have been worn much.

I say H&M because they definitely do fitted t-shirts, plus I got my jeans from there this time round and they are the comfiest things ever. Make sure you get over bump ones, as they stay up sooo much better.

I got some leggings from seraphine which are only £19 so not everything from there is that pricey.

I've never owned dungarees but I'm at that stage now (32 weeks) where if I need the loo, I need it right NOW and I wouldn't want to be wrestling with a jumpsuit lol.

Can't help with tights either as I am not bothering with them - but if you're due 6 weeks after me, I can see why you'd think you need them. The weather where I am has been so mild lately, though I do sometimes wear nude hold ups to work if it looks chilly. (No need for a maternity version of those!)

Most maternity clothes are online only. It's annoying! My twins were born in May this year. I bought basic tops from George, leggings from Tu, jeans from New Look, and I managed to get a few dresses from JoJo Maman Bébé half price in the sale. Gap maternity clothes are great, I bought a winter coat and some jumpers from there. I didn't have a huge selection of maternity clothes, for example I only bought one pair of jeans. I just didn't want to have to put washing on every day, so I had about 10 short sleeved and long sleeved tops, two jumpers, one pair of jeans, three pairs of leggings, and a few dresses.

lampback · 29/10/2021 12:23

Thanks so much all. Useful. I will set up alerts for stuff in my size on ebay.

Good point about jumpsuits and toilet. I have had to start using tena lady because I keep having little leaks...eep. all my clothes stink all the time 😭 any tips for this?? I am constantly washing my clothes and so need lots of spare. £19 for leggings is okay if you only need a couple of pairs but j need a new pair every bloody day

I lived in maternity leggings and jumpers that I already owned. I got my leggings from ASOS I think. Also maternity jeans that come with the stretchy band I got from top shop but now I think they're on ASOS.

For jumpers just buy a few sizes bigger or oversized styles. I am normally a size 10ish and would get big jumpers which would fit nicely.

Now that it's winter you could wear jumper dresses I think I got an oversized one from pretty little thing had a little belt loosely around my "waist" ha.

Seraphine usually have a decent sale on and if you signup for emails they should give you a code to use for money off. I just ordered a couple of dresses and my signup code worked on sale stuff. I’ve got a pair of jeans/jeggings from Asda which are very useful and lots of leggings from Sainsbury’s which were fine initially but they’ve stretched out rather a lot and a couple have small holes in them so I wouldn’t recommend them though they were cheap enough and I’ll probably still wear them under dresses and long jumpers. I bought 2 pairs of Asda leggings at the same time as the jeans and they have been brilliant! They stay up nicely and are not see through at all. I also got a few basic long sleeve tops again from Asda - it’s not somewhere I would ever have clothes shopped pre-pregnancy but I am so impressed! Some cute baby stuff in there too. Also got a few tunics and jumpers in 2 sizes up from Joules which have been great if you don’t mind the slightly oversized look. They have a good sale on currently too - 25% off.

OP are you doing pelvic floor exercises? There is an NHS app for that. You might also want to see a women's health physio if you can afford a session or 2, as it won't get any better by itself during the pregnancy and especially when you give birth. I hesitate to say that leaking isn't "normal" because it is very common, but it definitely does not have to be that way. Flowers

Got to be honest I don't, but clearly I really should.

Will have a look for that app. Thank you

ASOS has loads and you can use Klarna. I also got 2 really lovely maternity jumpsuits from Next that I practically lived in.

Frugi are good as well.

blink1eight2 · 29/10/2021 18:12

ASOS premium leggings are so comfortable and NOT see through. I have four pairs and wear them on rotation every single day.

Currently wearing a denim maternity dress over the top.

Will check asos for non see through leggings. What is this denim dress you speak of?? Please link me up if you can!

I really like loveleggings maternity leggings, not see thru at all. ASOS/H&M/New Look (websites better than stores) have the best selection of maternity clothes IMO

lampback · 30/10/2021 08:44

Asos leggings are sold out in my size!

Will check out loveleggings and frugi now...

jubbablub · 30/10/2021 11:23

Amazon sell these leggings by a random brand called Sinophant. They’re so soft and not see through. I bought a size up and they still fit at 41+5 weeks.

If you want a treat, I’ve bought two Poppy jumpsuits from Beyond Nine in this pregnancy and am planning on getting a Laura for a post partum treat. So. Freaking. Comfortable. My Poppies still fit comfortably and are packed in my hospital bag for ultimate comfort post partum.

I thought the same early on in my twin pregnancy, but the comfort of actual maternity clothes that fit properly definitely made more sense to me than buying a few sizes up. OP wants clothes that show her bump, and maternity clothes will do that. They will fit where they are supposed to, as well as hug the bump. Oversized clothes will be baggy everywhere and tight over the bump, which isn't always very flattering. OP just treat yourself to some proper maternity clothes. I guarantee you'll be wearing them for a while after your baby arrives, and that's even more reason to buy maternity clothes instead of clothes a few sizes bigger. You don't need to spend much money, my best buys were from Asda and Sainsbury's.

Nice to know asda and sainsburys have some good stuff will check out online

Just bought a load off asda and sainsburys. A top jn the sale at frugi. And a top from seraphine off ebay.

Anyone know where is best to buy tights that don't sag at the gusset?? 🤢

OP posts:
MoreThanRubies · 30/10/2021 21:03

@lampback my most comfy “maternity” tights were normal ones from Snag but one size up. Their site has guidance on how to size for maternity. They’re more stretchy than standard tights, so fitted over my bump. Expensive for normal tights, but not for maternity!

rk47 · 31/10/2021 09:42

I’m 20 weeks & maternity clothes are still too baggy but getting to the end of being able to use clothes I have already. I’ve started to get the odd thing from eBay and Vinted. My plan is jumper dresses with leggings and warm cardigans for extra warmth (maternity stuff doesn’t seem to be very warm!).
I also got a JoJo Maman coat from Facebook market place for £10 so definitely worth checking there too.

maisiedaisy64 · 31/10/2021 09:52

Second love leggings for non see through leggings! They’re brillant. And stay up. No decent recommendation for jeans...I tried a pair from next and they were useless, and have a pair from Esprit now that are ok, but not great either. The bump fabric part online stays up if I tuck another top inside it.

For warm fitted tops, try M and S thermal long sleeve, I just sized up in those and they’re great. Also got some fitted tops in New Look
