if you think the english are bad, have a lokat the asians.
silk sari's with sandals in sub zero weatheer.
i know of several women who dont even own coats.thin or heavy isnt the issue. and they wear sannndals becaus sadals are apparently appropirate wear with saris'. i'm talking about supposedly intelligent women here as well.

QuintessentialShadowOfSnowball · 11/12/2007 09:54

I have asked the same question for years. Skimpy blouses, thin suede jackets, no match for todays temperatures.

And not to mention blue little toes.

CodRestYeMerryGentelmen · 11/12/2007 09:54

yes fsg

and ( as on blog) thin white cotton

I has so many layers on this morning I could barely move but then I am far from typical English person and I HATE BEING COLD!!

Some girls in DS2's class in short skirts and little ankle socks brrrrr!

SquonkaClaus · 11/12/2007 09:55

and they go for a night out in a little mini-dress with spaghetti straps and no vest!

Anna8888 · 11/12/2007 09:56

Oh Cod, you are so right, I was having this conversation with another English girlfriend here in Paris the other day. She'd just been back home to her parents (North of England) and couldn't get over how people didn't seem to differentiate their wardrobes for the season - summer clothes in winter etc.

QuintessentialShadowOfSnowball · 11/12/2007 09:56

pukkapatch, that is interesting, because I stayed a winter in Bangalore, and the locals claimed to be freezing, they had big coats and hats (though I did not actually look at their feet) for going out in the evening, and I only had a small cardigan as I was HOT!

SSStollenzeit · 11/12/2007 09:56

It's the same the world over

Haven't seen any bare feet out and about though.

CodRestYeMerryGentelmen · 11/12/2007 09:57

last year i was in pakistan christmas time. ndit was booody freezing out there. colder than inlondon.
and did anyone wear a coat? no, hey laughed at me for wearing one.
did anyone do anything about the bloody great big gap under the front door to keep the heat in? no, they laughed at the suggestion and said it ruined thelook of the room.
they all put on a vest under there shalwar kameez's, and a shawl on top. and then wondered why they were shivering. it was 2 degreees celcisus. what do you expect?

or the neglish in the summer. they take all there bloody clothes off, an then wonerder why they are getting sunburnt, dehydrated. or just plain oveer heate.d i always want to shout out, PUT SOME BLOODY CLOTHES ONE PEOPLE. IT IS TOO HOT TO BRERUNNING ROUND IN A VEST AND SHORTS.

rant over.

Sandy, remind me what you have got against the British school in Berlin? I have heard from two separate sources recently that it is the only decent school in Berlin...

TheIceQueen · 11/12/2007 09:58

I think some people are just cold blooded.

My brother comfortably wears shorts and t-shirts until October/November time - and starts wearing them again in February/March time!

QuintessentialShadowOfSnowball · 11/12/2007 09:58

No, it is not the same the world over. Go to Norway, people look like penquins in the street. There is no such thing as cold, other than on the tip of your nose.

CodRestYeMerryGentelmen · 11/12/2007 09:58

mil wont wear wool

but hse is huge so maybe that keeps ehr warm

QuintessentialShadowOfSnowball · 11/12/2007 10:00

Norway is big for thermal underwear. Or 100% lambswool undershirts, with no, long or short sleeves, and woolen panties, some go down to the knee, and some to the ancle. Most grown women wear tights under trousers in winter.

QuintessentialShadowOfSnowball · 11/12/2007 10:02

Cod he does. He has a so called sporty style.

I want to see him in nice trousers, and possible a turtle neck under an informal coat.

If I were to give him a few hundred for shopping clothes, he comes home with gore tex, nike and adidas.

pukkapatch · 11/12/2007 10:03

well, there is a certain amount of weather adaptedness. i wsa never so cold as my first autumn at university, having moved here from saudi arabia. and in october in pakistan, i was busy turning the fans on because i was hot, whilst everyone else was huddling in their shawls. me being cold adapted.
no idea of australia. so cant comment with any authority, but am perfectly willing to make it up as i go aolng

ds2 has lost his winter coat, again. second one this winter. and i have sent him in to school wearing a light summer showerproof thing. i am sure i am going to be caled up for neglect.

CodRestYeMerryGentelmen · 11/12/2007 10:03
