Foundation for woman in her 50s?

MissyB1 · 26/10/2021 11:03

I’m 53 and basically haven’t worn any foundation since the start of the pandemic! I’ve got out of the habit. I’ve been wearing concealer and highlighter/ bronzer. Anyway now I’m getting out and about more and will hopefully have a few events to go to over the winter, I would like a new foundation or tinted moisturiser. I have very dry skin, and don’t want anything that will settle in my crows feet! I like a dewy finish.
Any recommendations?

I would go with glossier skin tint. It has no real coverage but really takes the edge off and makes your skin look great.

MissyB1 · 26/10/2021 11:10

That’s interesting, I have the glossier under eye concealer which is pretty good.

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser is good.

Taoneusa · 26/10/2021 11:21

Foundation looks a bit heavy on women our age, doesn’t it. What we need is something flattering, moisturising and with high spf.

I’ve been using Australian botanic tinted spf50 and it really evens out my skin tone and I feel comfortable in it. Before this I used It cosmetics CC cream , also spf50,with more coverage, I like it.

MissyB1 · 26/10/2021 11:25

Yes I think foundation can definitely be too much on older skin. Have always heard good things about Laura Mercier I will also check out Australian Botanic.

I use BB cream, has spf, is this classed as foundation?

MissyB1 · 26/10/2021 11:56

@Monolithique BB cream could be the answer and is usually good value I think, which one do you use?

I use Garnier original

I love the glossier stuff. It's less like covering your skin and more makes it look healthy and like you have good, even skin tone.
It subtly neutralises my red tomes but you can still see my freckles.
I have the bare minerals SPF 25 foundation stick to touch up red areas(like my nose, as I have slight roseacea)

dudsville · 26/10/2021 12:57

I add face oil or balm moisturiser to my foundation, applied to a cleansed and heavily moisturised face. However I am also trying out a pixie primer at the moment that I'm also liking re "glow".

Boots Hydraluminous foundation is excellent - light, dewy, good level of cover.

Geamhradh · 26/10/2021 13:02

N7 Hydraluminous. Holy Grail.
I've tried among others:
Nars Sheer Glow (not sheer, no glow, it's strangely buttery and flat)
Armani Luminous Silk- s'ok, but don't get the hype for the price
Charlotte Tilbury Magic (for the glittery tango effect)
Almost all Chanels and Lancomes ever made
Dior Future/Skin/etc
YSL Touche Éclat foundation
Bobbi Brown serum foundation.
Etc etc

Nothing is as good as Hydraluminous. I'm 55.

CointreauVersial · 26/10/2021 13:12

I am 54 and never use traditional foundation.
A recent discovery has been Erborian CC Cream - it's amazing. A little goes a long way and it gives your skin a lovely glowy-but-not-shiny finish. It covers blemishes, but you can still see them, if you see what I mean. And it has spf!

Gonegrey31 · 26/10/2021 13:15

I completely agree with the recommendations for Boots No7 Hydraluminous . It’s brilliant! I’m a decade older than you and this suits me so well.

bananagram18 · 26/10/2021 13:15

I love Trinny London face products. The new one is great, Rebalance I think it’s called. Her products are aimed at age 30+ I think.

workshy44 · 26/10/2021 13:20

Laura Mercier the new formula is awful, if you can find the old version it is great and more coverage than the glossier skin tint but I think nothing beats the glossier for older skin

DeclineandFall · 26/10/2021 13:20

I'm 52. Pre pandemic I was loving the Ordinary foundation- a little mixed in with a primer. Now it just doesn't suit. I'm going with a BB cream from Boots at the moment and an Ordinary primer. Might try the Boots Hydraluminous. I'd gone off Boots makeup for years but the BB cream is v good.

I hate Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser it feels really greasy on my skin.

PostladyPat · 26/10/2021 13:26

Trinny London is ace

MissyB1 · 26/10/2021 13:29

I need to go to Boots, I’m going to look at the hydraluminous I need to work out my shade which might be easier in store.

Another vote for Trinny London - I like both the Destress and the new Rebalance

I absolutely love Armani Luminous Silk foundation. It takes years off me.

over50andfab · 26/10/2021 13:39

I echo Garnier BB cream

The match to me at Trinny London is incredible. Have bought lots of the recommendations and they are spot on.
lindyloo57 · 26/10/2021 16:20

I love the Erborian cc cream too, if I need a little more coverage I sometimes use a little laura geller balance & brighten on top.

Imtoooldforallthis · 26/10/2021 17:21

The ordinary serum foundation, you only need one drop for the whole face and blend really well. I also use no 7 hydroluminous but find it thicker than the ordinary.
