I’m mid-40s. Got a Lumea - not found it effective tbh. Few dark hairs sprouting from cheeks and neck. I’d like it all gone, never to return. Wouldn’t we all? What’s worked for you?

I have both light colored downy hair on my lip and chin, plus some incredibly wiry hairs, both dark and light, on my chin and jawline. I used to have my lip threaded and pluck the tough ones in between, but found I was getting break-outs and ingrown hairs on my chin.
As my hairs are too light for laser, I now have electrolysis. It has been remarkable. I go once a month and after four months have barely any tough hairs left. Plus no bumps or break-outs. Immediately after my electrolysis session, I shave the remaining downy hair on my lip and chin. It has made such a difference. Those little pointy hairs pushing through used to drive me mad!

imnottoofussed · 26/10/2021 16:30

so I usually just do a quick dry shave on my upper lip and occasionally the chin area when I catch anything glinting in the bathroom mirror. Previously used veet sensitive cream but cant be bothered with the waiting a few minutes and it smells. Dermaplaning looks great but i'm crap at being social and small talk in places like salons.

WellTidy · 26/10/2021 16:32

Threading for brows and upper lip

Tweezers at home for anything else

danni0509 · 26/10/2021 17:03

@Teaandcakeordeath83 i wax nose hairs out, hard wax on cotton buds leave for 30 seconds to harden then pull them out, doesn’t hurt and so satisfying to look at the buds after. Look like loads of spiders legs!

Whatwouldnanado · 26/10/2021 17:23

I monitor my top lip like a third eyebrow and tweeze the wiry buggers out as soon as they pop out. I also have one on my chin and one my chin immediately under my bottom lip.

Maverick66 · 26/10/2021 17:26

Professional laser.
Clinic uses medical grade laser machine...game changer

stealthninjamum · 26/10/2021 17:33

I had electrolysis on my chin. After three goes (most recently a month ago) I’m currently hairless.

It’s an odd feeling, I used to spend hours twiddling the long ones between my fingers.

TheProvincialLady · 26/10/2021 17:37

My hair is blonde, fine and very plentiful. Cream gives me chemical burns. Wax gives me whiteheads. Tweezing gives me little scars.

I use a sheiseido facial razor once a week, job done and very little if any irritation.

Lottapianos · 26/10/2021 17:39

'I wax nose hairs out'

And it DOESN'T hurt? Really? Seriously?!

Lovewins · 26/10/2021 17:42

I use the ‘body’ attachment on my Phillips Lumea and have found that works better than the other attachment at reducing it. Still have a couple of very blond hairs though. Too scared to shave

JKLMNO · 26/10/2021 17:51

This is the worse part of the menopause for me.
I tweeze, pluck, shave, epilate and still struggle to keep on top of it.

CherryMaple · 26/10/2021 17:53

Thanks so much all for the responses.

People who are waxing/tweezing/epilating, is the regrowth getting any less? I would really like a permanent solution if at all possible.

I did a few sessions of electrolysis a couple of years ago - when I had fewer facial hairs - and didn’t see results. Are some electrolysis therapists better than others?

@Lovewins I was using the Lumea on my face with the body attachment, turned up to 5, but I got a patch of hyperpigmentation (which has now disappeared thankfully but has put me off), and I still have every single hair... I also feel a bit scared to shave.

I wonder if I should look at laser? The new hairs that are annoying me the most are long dark ones on the side of my face (sideburn area?) where I have never had hair before 😡

I tried ipl at home but not made much difference. I use a twinkle razor about once a week and don’t look at me reflection with glasses on

AnnieSnap · 26/10/2021 17:56

@Lux523

I dermaplane once a month.

No abnormal growth of hair afterwards and I'm light skinned with very dark hair.

You won't ever look back.

Can you say a bit more about dermaplaing? I’ve heard of it, but wonder how it’s different to shaving.
shamalidacdak · 26/10/2021 19:12

Waxing, tweezing and drinking tons of peppermint tea

Luckingfovely · 26/10/2021 19:20

I use these - a definite MN recommendation. Every couple of weeks.

ILLUVA Eyebrow Razors Facial Hair Remover Shaver Trimmer Shaper, Exfoliating Dermaplaning Tool for Women and Men 6 Pcs https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VRSTQ7Z/ref=cmswwrcppapiglttfabc5MB0HXMVM7HZ4MEXY31D

They take off all that fluff on your cheeks! And then tweeze in between if anything dares to pop out.

Not permanent, but I couldn't deal with the pain of the springy thingy, and it's cheap and easy.

Luckingfovely · 26/10/2021 19:22

@AnnieSnap see my link in last post - they have a slightly serrated blade, so in theory glide across your skin and cut the hairs off, but don't actually shave the skin. They do definitely exfoliate a bit too. I think they're incredibly effective for something so cheap and simple.

A bit Hmm at people saying they use a razor!

Luckingfovely · 26/10/2021 19:24

Ah I just the found the Sheisedo razor someone mentioned above - exactly the same as the dermaplane things I linked above but described as a facial razor!

Ameanstreakamilewide · 26/10/2021 19:32

I use one of these and it does me proud. I am using it on my chin more, these days, but it's a quick buzz over my face and i'm done.

Before 'The Lurgy', i used to get my upper lip and eyebrows threaded, but i had to come up with something else during the Lockdowns.

And this is a fantastic substitute.

orangejuicer · 26/10/2021 19:37

I mostly tweeze and wax every so often. It's endless.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 26/10/2021 19:37

I use one of those dermaplaning things. The last one I bought were cheapy amazon ones which are OK but I think the Hollywood browser is better for all it has a crap name.

nancybotwinbloom · 26/10/2021 19:38

I have some tweezerman tweezers. They are the best I've ever had. I used to have one hair under my chin that comes out really sharp even when plucked. I have five now!

Is the lumea not good for facial and neck hair then as I get the odd one on my neck.

I check daily, nothing is there then when I check again later that day there is a one inch one. How?! I'm definitely not missing them on my mornjng insoection lol.

Well, when you have laser you have to shave so I'm not sure what the confusion is about?
