Does anyone shed LOADS of hair?

I’m not sure there is anything I can do about it, and fortunately I’m not worried at the moment about my hair thinning because I still have a lot of it on my head. But it’s really pissing me off because my hair is everywhere! I can run my fingers over the carpet and pick up a clump. Lying in bed I can see strands on the sheet and pillow. It’s on my office chair, my car seat and worst of all it’s all over my clothes. I cannot wear dark clothes or things such as wool because the hair gets trapped in it and it looks awful, people pick hairs off me. This isn’t a new thing, it has always happened but if anyone knows of any tips to deal with it they’d be much appreciated.

Yep me! It’s really annoying . It’s everywhere. I brush my hair vigorously before I get in the shower and yet when I wash my hair tons still comes out. I still have thick hair, although I’ve just turned 50 so hope it’s now not starting to thin. I don’t think there is an answer but it really is annoying!

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/10/2021 08:04

If it’s a new thing contact your dr, hair isn’t meant to fall out.

I lose a lot, I shed more than my long hair cat and we’re both groomed daily.

CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 17/10/2021 08:05

It can be linked to vitamin deficiency. I'm low in vitamin D and even running my fingers through my hair causes clumps to come out. I'm hoping that upping my vitamin D will help.

CoolShoeshine · 17/10/2021 08:12

I’m in my 40s and it’s not a new thing, it’s always happened so I’m not really worried. But it does blow my mind how I can lose just so much hair without it ever looking thinner! There’s masses in the hairbrush too! I’ll have a look into vitamin D though, thanks for the tip.

Yes my hair is constantly falling out, so much comes out when I wash. I haven't noticed thinning as such so I wonder where it all comes from my hair wasn't thick to start! I thought it was a post pregnancy thing but it's been 14 months now and still sheding lots . I've started using olaplex number 3 and 6 which does seem to have slowed it down a bit.

crispsahoy · 17/10/2021 08:21

Yes, mine is everywhere! I alway shed a fair bit a symptom of under active thyroid I was told. However I'm seems to be on over drive at the moment.

Billandben444 · 17/10/2021 11:20

Yup. Like you I used to have very thick hair and smugly thought if I lose some extra it won't matter. 3 years down the line and my hair is pathetic with proper bald bits. My doc showed no interest (I'm late 60s btw) and I've tried every supplement/vitamin on the market but nothing has helped. I'm now in the process of treating my scalp (which is always very dry but not dandruffy) but not very optimistic. I do seem to have lost a lot on my legs and my 'lady garden' as well so don't think special shampoos will help! If you're young with thick hair at the moment, please don't be Mrs Smug like me - would a trichologist be able to advise you?

Skysblue · 17/10/2021 11:29

Yep

ImitationofBeing · 17/10/2021 11:37

Yep, perimenapause is 1 reason.

I have thick hair but could see it was thinning. If put in a ponytail it looked thin and awful. It was also in awful condition.

Tried various products and methods.

I have been using Faith In Nature hair products for a few weeks and its looking much healthier.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/10/2021 11:48

The nhs advises everyone to take vitamin d now.

yellowgingham · 17/10/2021 12:27

This always happens to me most when the weather gets colder in Autumn. It's really weird, it happens every year.

VanCleefArpels · 17/10/2021 12:34

Me!!!

So much in the shower plug, floor, bed, brushes it’s a wonder I’m not bald. My formerly very thick longish hair is much thinner now (girth of ponytail diminished) but no bald patches. It’s growing back too which leads to its own issues: lots of shorter new growth sticking up and out.

I put it down to my age (52) and menopause. Would love to hear about any products anyone uses that are actually effective

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/10/2021 12:36

I’m amazed my husband isn’t bald, he sheds handfuls each time he showers. Still got a full head of hair though. Probably nothing sinister but maybe have a word with surgery to put your mind at rest?

Gothichouse40 · 17/10/2021 12:40

One of the signs of an underactive thyroid is hair loss, especially if it's quite a lot. Id ask the doctor for a test.

Alonghairinapie · 17/10/2021 12:53

Yes when I’m anaemic

Same! Always happens in autumn and comes out like crazy
YouSetTheTone · 17/10/2021 18:22

I shed a lot each autumn too. I freaked out the first couple of times but when I noticed it was an annual thing I stopped. I noticed that it had started happening over the past couple of days actually!

Loubiemoo · 17/10/2021 18:47

Yep, I shed a lot, but the last week its doubled. I have a lot of hair so I’m not concerned.

My DH moans a lot about finding it everywhere though.

ABitOfAShitShow · 17/10/2021 18:51

🙋🏼‍♀️

karmakameleon · 17/10/2021 19:17

I’m another who had hair loss as a symptom of anaemia. Iron supplements sorted it out.

CatKittyCatCatKittyCatCat · 17/10/2021 19:30

Shampoo at roots only, conditioner only from about inch or two away from root.

Etonmessisyum · 17/10/2021 21:29

Tonnes more so recently but my hair is very thick which is unusual for me so not worrying too much, I have an under active thyroid so booked in for a blood test just to check.
I use living proof shampoo and only do roots but only condition the length - it’s quite long. But horrible seeing tonnes of hair in comb etc my hair doesn’t look like it’s thinning or anything though - yet

Snoopsnoggysnog · 17/10/2021 22:54

I’ve always had this. My hair has always been fine and has looked thin since my 20s. It actually looks pretty good if a bit thin. I worry about post menopause. My mum and aunts have very thin hair with bald patches but my hair is a different texture to theirs.
My DD is pre teen and her hair is similar to mine and falls out loads.

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 17/10/2021 23:25

Yep me... when I wash my hair and condition it, it comes out in clumps. I have to cut it out the hoover otherwise it breaks and it's all over the house. I'm worse than the dogs tbh

52andblue · 17/10/2021 23:32

Yes. but v low iron, B12 AND Vit D.
Surprised I have any hair left.
