Horrible hair

I have 2 preschoolers and have no time to spend on myself. Any suggestions to help with the grey frizzy mess in the photo? Thanks in advance

If you don't want to dye your hair then don't, if you do, then do so. I think a trim to remove some of the damage would be the best way to go, and yes try the curly girl routine (modify it to suit yourself, some of it can be really OTT - the original idea was to use less products, some people go overboard with it and use heaps). Layers might help too. Your hair is pretty.

nicecheesegromit · 16/10/2021 22:46

I have very similar hair. You will notice a huge difference if you use hair straighteners for the ends. Mine does the ringlets effect too if I don't! It's then a nice mix of curly and straight = wavy. Damp is the worst as it just frizzes

hellololabells2019 · 16/10/2021 22:54

@BrilliantBetty where do you the Redken from?

MotherofPoodles · 17/10/2021 01:36

I have the same hair! My life changed when I stopped shampooing it and just used conditioner. Zero frizz and it's swishy when not up in a bun. I'm just sad it took me until my 40's to work this out.

I'm not ashamed of grey hairs for the poster suggesting we might be, I just think it's looks ugly on me.

MotherofPoodles · 17/10/2021 01:36

Oh nearly forgot I can now sleep with wet hair - mind blown!

GreenLunchBox · 17/10/2021 01:41

I love your curls!

november90 · 17/10/2021 02:20

I find that when I actually blow dry my hair (which is a rarity as I normally let it dry in its own and then style the next day) it actually sets a lot smoother and more vibrant. I wonder if you fit in 10 minutes to dry the frizz would be less.
I'd also have a go sting it, maybe a chocolate my brown and a just above shoulder Bob? You don't need to change it, if your happy, but trying new things is cool and exciting too! :)

gunnersgold · 17/10/2021 07:49

You don't have horrible hair , your hair has massive potential . You just need to make an effort with it or get it cut into a style you can manage . I can see your hair could be super curly but it will require styling ! Honestly you have so much potential!

Orla1970 · 17/10/2021 08:33

It depends what bothers you the most. I’m not quite ready (not sure I ever will be) to embrace the grey! I like getting my naturally curly hair regularly trimmed and coloured at salon (literally same as my natural colour but covers grey and gives a great sheen) Inbetween I mostly dry and straighten but you do have such lovely curls. For your hair I would suggest investing in some good products. Lots of great ones have already been mentioned. If you’re on a budget you can’t go wrong with the john frieda frizz ease range. Often on 3 for 2 deal in Boots. I wouldn’t go to bed with wet hair. Spend ten minutes drying it with some product. I would scrunch it or do curly girl method. In the morning when I wear my hair curly I spray it with a little water to pep up the curls again and run a little serum through it to look a bit more finished. Like other posters I feel much better about myself if my colour and condition of hair is good and my eyebrows are good. I get them threaded and tinted along with lash tint every 6 weeks when I get my hair done. It makes a subtle difference but means I’m comfortable with no make up at times x

@MotherofPoodles

Is there any particular conditioner to use or would any one do please?

Do you just use it the same as shampoo on the top of head, roots etc. I worry it would go all greasy?

OverByYer · 17/10/2021 08:44

You need to avoid products with silicone in them. Silicone dries the hair whilst coating it with silicone to make it appear soft and silky. The more natural the products the better

MapleMay11 · 17/10/2021 09:04

@ILoveAllRainbowsx

Please embrace the grey. The more people that do it the more normal it will become. Women should not have to spend time and money dying their hair.

Grey hair is natural we shouldn't be ashamed of it

Women should do what works best for them. Having grey hair is normal, many women just choose not to have it, the same way they choose to tint their lashes and brows.
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/10/2021 09:13

I'm saying this kindly I promise - you have lovely curls, I'm all about grey so definitely embrace yours but the first thing I thought when I clicked on the photo was it just needs washing ( sorry!) Then you mentioned you only wash it when you remember and once a week.

So I'd step up washing it a bit and definitely look into Cantu cream or mouse. The cream was too heavy for me but it's fab stuff.

You have lovely hair ,just need to play around until you find something that works.

Mine was very dry before I stopped using shampoo which I'm assuming caused the frozziness, it was almost like the texture of doll hair 🤣.

It does now go greasy but I wash it every 3rd day to keep on top of this. I very occasionally will add a dollop of shampoo if I feel there's build up. I'll add this just before I rinse on top of the conditioner, no more than once a month though. I don't use any products at all, I have spent an absolute fortune on serums etc in the past. I tend to use a good quality conditioner, this means I buy it on Amazon and go for a great review and bulk buy. Currently using cantu and finola which are both new to me but I'm happy with them. I never thought I'd like my hair, but I really do now although it needs a trim. Trial and error and it was the curly girl method that set me off but I don't like defined curls so I went maverick. I now have soft loose curls.

AliceinBorderland · 17/10/2021 09:42

@Frizzyhairhelp

Thanks everyone. So if I wash my hair in the morning would you suggest blowdrying it?
Yes but only dry the roots. Leave a towel over the ends and dry the roots only as the heat will frizz the curls.

Also aveda be curly curl enhancer is heat activated and enhances curls.

MotherofPoodles · 17/10/2021 09:42

Sorry forgot, yer I just slap in on scrub it in quite vigorously and wash the rest of me so it stays on about 5 minutes before being rinsed. I use plenty but I just make sure it's all over.

You have beautiful hair. EnvySmile

Love your hair OP!! Please update us when you've done whatever you decide to do! I'd love hair like yours! ☺️

Zipkey · 17/10/2021 12:01

I love John Frieda frizz ease products and find they genuinely do help form curls and stop flyaways and frizz. I use the deep condition and the frizz ease serums at the moment.

Thank you for that, I will have a go with the conditioner that I am currently using and see how that is whilst I am waiting for an Amazon delivery of the ones you mentioned.

My hair is not curly, just wavy, thin and frizzy with a halo of new growth at the top of around 3" which never seems to go away so assume it must be constantly snapping off.

Frizz easy is silicone. In time it just leaves hair flat sticky and dull
Zipkey · 17/10/2021 13:08

@AliceinBorderland I agree if you don’t regularly clarify but some peoples hair type just needs silicone, I know mine does! I’ve tried all the silicone and sls free shampoos and products and they really do give me limp flat hair.

Frizzyhairhelp · 17/10/2021 13:10

Thank you so much for all the advice and also to those saying it has potential! Apologies for delay in responding but just got to nap time and some time to myself...

To the poster who asked for an update - will do it will motivate me to actually try a few things! I'm normally very good at getting things done, it's just that I am bottom of the list!

I am trying to book a balayage as headmasters has 50% off (hard to find the 2 hours though in between preschool drop off and pick up and baby naps and when my parents can come help!). I am planning to buy the mousse someone mentioned and was going to buy frizz ease but just saw the post above!

Not sure whether to wash my hair more often or not at all though per the posters saying no shampoo! 😂

You have lovely hair in need of some tlc. Probably already mentioned but give curly girl method ago. Curly hair is really low maintenance when you know how

Frizzyhairhelp · 17/10/2021 13:11

And thanks again it has given me some hope I can emerge from the baby years not looking too terrible!
