Wavy hair

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if you have any tips for dealing with wavy hair?

My hair is wavy from about midway down my head. It's definitely not curly. I really struggle keeping it looking good as it gets dry and frizzy super easily, but as it's fine it gets weighed down really quickly by any product.

Does anyone have any tips? Thank you.

Babyliss big hair

The amount of comments I get amount my hair is ridiculous (I lap it up though!).

It turns thick and wavy hair in to something out of a shampoo advert

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 15/10/2021 15:56

Oh and high end hair care
Opalex and virtue in rotation

Squishedpickle · 15/10/2021 16:05

Thanks @Reallyimeanreally2022 but I have quite fine hair. Do you think it would be OK or too heavy?

I have the same hair as you. It’s cut into a Bob length. Can’t take any product as it just looks greasy and heavy.
What I do is wash it, rough dry it upside down and then wet my hands and scrunch my hair from the ears down a bit. Takes about ten minutes to dry fully and then I have soft waves all day.

Squishedpickle · 15/10/2021 19:36

Thanks @monkeybumbum7 that's really helpful. Do you find it makes you frizzy?

Condition-wash-condition routine really helps me.

Basically wet hair, comb a little conditioner through. For some people it’s best to apply conditioner from roots, for other from mid-lengths.

Then wash with shampoo. Be sure to emulsify shampoo with a little water by rubbing hands together until a slight lather forms before applying to hair. This will stop hair dripping at the roots.

Then after washing and rinsing, comb through more conditioner, leave for a bit and rinse. Again, for some people whole length of hair to roots works best, with others from mid length only.

Sounds complicated but it honestly took longer to type out than to do.

I finish with a light spray of a leave in conditioner that contains hyaluronic acid and a drop or two of hair oil on the ends.

As far as products go, here are a couple of options:

On a budget

Faith in Nature Coconut Conditioner and Shampoo for first two steps, Fragrance Free Conditioner for final condition.
Urtekram Spray Conditioner in Rose or Nordic Berries
Jojoba oil for ends

More spendy
Fushi Argqn and Amalaki Shampoo and Conditioner work wonders. Amazing for smoothness and sleekness.
As before Urtekram Rose or Nordic Berries conditioner spray
Fishy Really Good Hair Oil. Literally a couple of drops rubbed between palms and applied on ends only while damp. Doubles as a once a month deep oil treatment.

Thank you so much @catkittycatcatkittycatcat that is so thorough and helpful! Do you air dry or do something else?

Hersheson's Almost Everything Cream. It solves frizz, it defines curl, with a blowdry, it glosses and smoothes. It. Is. Brilliant.

CatKittyCatCatKittyCatCat · 15/10/2021 21:39

Pat off some of the water with a hammam towel for a few seconds before spray in conditioner and oil then air dry @squashed pickle

CatKittyCatCatKittyCatCat · 15/10/2021 21:40

Sorry @Squishedpickle

Squishedpickle · 15/10/2021 21:42

Thank you so much!

My hair is wavy but thick and I have lots of it - it frizzes up easily.
I always straighten mine as no wave stays in past the ends due the weight of my hair.

I dream of any of the following:
Straight hair
Wavy hair - but not thick
Curly hair
Thin hair

CatKittyCatCatKittyCatCat · 15/10/2021 23:21

Fushi Really Good Hair Oil not fishy. Oh Lord.

Squishedpickle · 15/10/2021 23:35

@catkittycatcatkittycatcat Grin I did wonder!

I find L’Oréal children’s pear detangler great for defrizzing without weighing down. Then I put some sea salt spray in it, and wrap it up in a t shirt to dry naturally a bit.

Iwasonlytryingtohelp · 16/10/2021 20:29

Check out Merwave products - really good for wavy rather than curly hair - lots of hints and tips in their website too

Squishedpickle · 16/10/2021 20:29

Thank you @HandforthParishCouncilClerk that is really helpful

Thinking I might embrace my waves too. Quite aware that straightening my hair everyday is a dated look snd it never lasts anyway. It's always desperate to curl.

@Iwasonlytryingtohelp, do you have all the products or just some? £68 feels quite spendy....
