Wavy hair

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if you have any tips for dealing with wavy hair?

My hair is wavy from about midway down my head. It's definitely not curly. I really struggle keeping it looking good as it gets dry and frizzy super easily, but as it's fine it gets weighed down really quickly by any product.

Does anyone have any tips? Thank you.

I did buy the full set to try them all together. I don't use much and I have only needed to repurchase shampoo(1) and foam (4) since February and I have bra-length hair. I hardly use any feed (3) or gel (5) but I notuce if I don't use them. I am using the Garnier 'ultimate blends hair food in banana' as a more luxuriant and cost effective conditioner that is silicon free and so compatible. I have heard good things about their papaya one too.

Next brand I want to try is 'only curls london' - they do a trial set that would be good for work trips.

I have a referral link for merwave that gives a discount (and full disclosure, a discount for me too) if you want.

Numbers in brackets are the steps, not the number of bottles bought!

Another vote for babyliss big hair. And then set it with L’Oréal elnett spray. Showing my age there.

I’m on a break without my Babyliss and I can hardly look in the mirror.

That would be great, thank you @Iwasonlytryingtohelp

I joined a few Wavy Girl groups on facebook. I look out for others with similar hair to mine and get tips for products and routines there.

Get a good haircut. If it's cut well it will fall into place without 'product' or styling.

Squishedpickle · 18/10/2021 19:19

@KirstenBlest it falls into place just fine, it's just that it is extremely flyaway and frizzy. Just due to the texture of my hair.

Wow, I am amazed how many people want to get rid of wavy hair. What, exactly, it so wrong with it? It has body, movement and usually looks a lot less harsh and more healthy than flattened hair.
Why even try to curl it? Are curls intrinsically better?

Perhaps find a product (they work differently for everyone so no use asking for advice) that softens the frizz and maybe go with it?

Mine is long and wavy and I can't imagine seeing it as a problem. If I try to make a defined curl I look older and like an extra in Perry mason. There's nothing remotely wrong with wavy hair. Im not 100% against bit of frizz either, but I do prefer it to look healthy and vibrant.

I don't particularly want to get rid of it. I've spent most of my life with very straight hair and it's only since swapping to shampoo bars that my hair has developed a wave.
Someone said that going to sulphate free shampoo bars can bring out a wave, but waves take time to form. I'm left with an awkward Hagrid look some days so need all the tips to embrace the waves because otherwise I'll be ditching shampoo bars.

@musicforsnorks don’t want to get rid of it, just help it looks it’s best. That was a pretty nasty, sneery comment.

Squishedpickle · 18/10/2021 20:43

@catkittycatcatkittycatcat I tried your method earlier today, thank you! My hair loved the condition wash condition method. It was still very frizzy, but lovely and soft, but I didn't have a chance to get some of the products you recommended yet so hopefully some of those will help.

It also wasn't helped by the fact I went for a walk in the rain and so it went pouffe - does anyone know of any products that could potentially help?

@musicforsnorks the range of products available is so wide that actually getting advice from people with a similar hair texture is really useful to get some ideas of things to try. Not sure why that's such a problem for you.

Lately I mixed some hyaluronic acid with argan oil in the palm of my hand, and smoothed it onto my hair after slightly dampening the frizz.

I was surprised how well it worked and plan to make a hydrosol.

My hair is flyaway, thick, tangly.

Taoneusa · 18/10/2021 21:04

Oh yes, I also used a cleansing conditioner that really helped! Tigi calma sutra… was surprised how good it was. Nice, because quick to use, too, just a one step process.
