I feel so ugly - my eyes/ eyebrows asymmetrical

ston · 15/10/2021 10:33

I have recently noticed that one of my eyebrows is significantly lower than the other. One is straight and the other one is curved. They are not in line even a tiny bit and i can never get them to look the same even with drawing them on.

How can I fix this? I grew my eyebrows out for about 10 months last year and got them done professionally but nothing changed.

It makes it worse being on teams all day seeing my face looking all surprised.

I also have acne and acne scars. My self esteem is so low and I can’t deal with being me and looking in the mirror most days.

No one else will notice even if they are tbh. But HD brows are good for correcting asymmetry.

PurpleSneakers · 19/10/2021 07:13

@SmileyClare & @Bluntness100 agreed.

From the photo you have presented, it seems there is evidence to the contrary on both accounts (ie. Others can’t seem to see any problem with your brows/skin) and you seem to suggest that it is taking over your daily life. In this case, if it were me I would seek some mental health care including CBT.

Also I think @SmileyClare’s ideas about increasing your outside focus and your exercise level for endorphin release are good ones.

Morgan12 · 19/10/2021 07:29

I had the same issue and I got mine microbladed. They were very uneven though, yours aren't as bad. Yours could be sorted with HD brows no bother. Costs a bit more than a normal wax but 100% worth the money.

Stumpedasatree · 19/10/2021 10:02

OP please see mine for far worse asymmetry. It's my face, and it is me, doesn't bother me as there is not much I can do about it.

I have one high eyebrow with a visible eyelid, and one low eyebrow with a hooded eye. I think it makes my face look interesting.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 19/10/2021 12:33

Which is the most aesthetically pleasing?

There is a big difference indeed. But you could probably only change it with some sort of cosmetic enhancer. So depends a bit on if youd wanna go down that road.

Lovely color skin and eyebrow color btw!

Libraryghost · 19/10/2021 16:28

@OutwiththeOutCrowd that is exactly what cured me of my irrational eyebrow asymmetry thing! I realised people look a bit ‘off’ if everything is exactly symmetrical. I get the where the op is coming from. It’s sounds mad and it IS mad but when you get something stuck in your head it’s very easy to become obsessive.

ablativeshielding · 19/10/2021 17:22

You have ptosis in your left eye, your left eye brow is raising (subconsciously) to try to compensate and keep your field of vision intact. You can have a surgical correction on the eyelid this would more than likely have to be private but can be done on the NHS if your vision is badly affected. It's a minor procedure mine involved tightening the ligament and made a huge difference I hadn't realised how much of my vision was blacked out by it.
If the only thing bothering you is the mismatch in the level of the eyebrows you could do facial exercise to even them up. Plenty of videos on youtube.

nancybotwinbloom · 19/10/2021 17:44

Eyebrows are like boobs. They are sisters not twins.

Yours are lovely.

Mine are also different heights to each other. I swear to you, no one else will notice only you.

OP I have had body dysmorphic disorder for much of my life although it has improved with therapy and age. The feeling of looking monstrous is a common part of it and very distressing. I am another one who suggests you seek help for this. You don't deserve to feel this way.

ston · 20/10/2021 19:28

@ablativeshielding ptosis? That is worrying - what is that and how would I have got it? I find it hard to accept this is how I look.

Thanks all for your help - I have tried hd brows but that does not sort it out. I’m very apprehensive about micro blading / powder brows incase I don’t like them and can’t correct them.

I have contacted someone for therapy so hopefully that helps. I cannot go on living like this.

Well done with the therapy OP. Hopefully it will enable you to feel comfortable in your own skin.

I'm so sorry you're feeling so anguished Op Flowers Ptosis is drooping of an eyelid where your vision is affected: caused usually by injury to the nerves or muscles. You arent showing obvious symptoms of ptosis. I don't think it's advisable for anyone to advise surgery on here.

I doubt you'll be able to accept this, but I looked at your photo and assumed you had picked a photo of a model as an example. You're a beautiful young woman with completely normally proportioned brows.

Have a look at "Ugly Me: My Life with Body Dysmorphia" on BBC iPlayer. It might resonate with you.

I hope you can access some therapy. In the meantime, limit time in mirrors and taking selfies, get outside in daylight once a day for some exercise. That will lift your mood and give you a break from your intrusive thoughts.

Wishing you some inner peace Smile

Libraryghost · 20/10/2021 22:10

I agree with other posters. You are definitely sounding like you have body dysmorphia. Asymmetry is a common ‘problem’ for people with this condition. The trick is to treat it like the mental health problem it is. You do have an issue but it’s not your eyebrows. I guarantee if someone could wave a wand and give you the eyebrows you think you want within a couple of days your focus will have shifted somewhere else and you will see a new problem to ‘fix’ Remember if you look hard enough and long enough you will find ‘flaws’ that nobody else would notice in a million years. By the way I have seen ptosis and there is nothing in your photo that would suggest that to me, you have normal eyebrows with slight asymmetry which is what the vast majority of us have. You are normal op xx

Hopeisallineed · 20/10/2021 22:18

@GoodnightGrandma ‘our face is two pieces that come together’ what?!!! Like a jigsaw?! 😂😳😂

SmileyClare · 20/10/2021 22:25

Yes like a jigsaw. Look up how a face forms in the womb, it's really interesting, like pieces of a puzzle that meet forming the philtrum- that midline groove from nose to lips.

Hopeisallineed · 20/10/2021 22:28

I’ve just looked it up! Amazing except it’s three main pieces, not two. Fascinating.

SmileyClare · 20/10/2021 22:33

@Hopeisallineed It's pretty surreal watching a face form isn't it? It wasn't what I imagined at all!

Hopeisallineed · 20/10/2021 22:34

Really is. Had no idea!

it means your upper eyelid has become droopy, it's not a problem unless the eyelid is drooping so much it covers your eye so affects your vision. Other than that it's a cosmetic issue.

My surgeon said for most people it was just something that they had no real cause as such.

Therapy sounds like a good idea it's really not a noticeable cosmetic issue unless you are staring intently at a still picture which we only do with our own faces.
