Can you be glam in flats?

Is there such a thing as a pair of comfy shoes that also look dressy and not like something you'd wear to work/going to the shops? Because I can't find anything online.

I would have worn nice heels in the old world, but honestly, after working from home for so long, I don't think I have the stamina to wear heels all night to a posh do, and I can't be faffed with bringing rolled up flats to change into when I could just wear one pair of shoes from the start.

Would love some inspiration, please!

You can look expensive in flats: the backless Gucci pricetowns for example. But it’s hard to replicate that heeled look without heels.

Would mules work? There are some glam but marmite Kurt Geiger bejewelled lobster ones. (But the secret leopard cheapie print lover inside of me likes these)

Some ideas

I'm not sure I can afford Sophia Webster, but I think I like the ones you suggested: www.sophiawebster.com/product/35468/butterfly-slingback

The Boden ones aren't quite right, but also not terrible: www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/mila-flats-dalmatian/sty-a0929-blk

Not right for this occasion, but I think I like the Jennie pumps (no idea why): www.joules.com/Women/All-Womens-Footwear/Jennie/Leather-Pump?size=Adult-9&id=213992|LEOPARD|9

If this is what you meant, I hate them, I hate them, I hate them (sorry): www.asos.com/kurt-geiger-london/kurt-geiger-london-otter-slip-on-mule-with-lobster-in-white-leather/prd/22621448 So yes, very marmite-y; I also hate Marmite!

Still looking through some of the other suggestions.

Ahh the Jennie pumps are my massive link fails!! I really like the shape, both the tan and the leopard print.

BrilliantBulb · 03/10/2021 19:28

No idea on quality, sorry! But for the price I’m not imagining great, but could be worth a risk.

😂 yes those are the Kurt Geiger Lobsters. 🦞 (Don’t worry, I don’t like them either.)

BrilliantBulb · 03/10/2021 19:30

Sorry, the comment about quality was for @rocksteadyfreddy

rocksteadyfreddy · 03/10/2021 19:32

My daughter gets a lot from there and half is great for the price, the other half is shocking!

But yeah def worth the risk for that much!

I think you can, I used to live in heels but just can't manage them since lockdown & living in comfies while wfh. I would go for something in metallic, or a luxe fabric like velvet or satin, maybe with a broach, gems or some kind of detail to take it out of daytime wear. I recently bought these from Asos www.asos.com/asos-design/asos-design-wide-fit-laurie-gem-embellished-pointed-mule-in-black-satin/prd/22912221?colourwayid=60435921&cid=19886 which I would wear going out.

I've also seen these which I think could look more dressy

I'm not convinced that pointy flats are any easier to walk in. I bought a gorgeous pair that I thought would be the perfect flat dressy shoe but something about the toe shape is even more uncomfortable in a flat shoe than in a heeled shoe. I took them off and wore heels! If comfort is the goal I think the pointy toe is not the man for the job.

lannistunut · 03/10/2021 20:05

Yes definitely, my personal view is heels look crap/old-fashioned and most people walk weirdly in them.

Got any examples of nice flats?

I'm going through all of the suggestions posted on this thread, but I'm yet to find a pair of flats I feel compelled to buy.

I think heels always look nice, but as you say, some people can't walk properly in them, and that takes the glamour away. I am one of those people.

@fashionSOS I personally like simple shoes, very plain, I wear very simple things in general. My view is they look better than heels, but if what you like is heels then you won't find a flat shoe that looks like that.

I really like plain ballerina shoes, but they look very 'everyday' to me, and I fear I won't get away with them at a posh do with a dress code when everyone else is wearing stilettos.
I’m tempted by these ones: www.uterque.com/m/gb/footwear/flat-shoes/rhinestone-ballerinas-c1863505p9373001.html?stylism=01&xmset=01&colorId=040
I think this might be my favourite so far.

What about something like this? I'm not sure if I like them, or if they're even formal enough.

I also have no idea what that brand is like!

I think stomper boots can look glamorous because modern glamour is different from times past, but I may have a different style to you OP.

I probably should have said at the start - it's for a traditional formal affair, so my style doesn't 100% come into it. It has to be something traditionally glamorous, not quirky glamorous.
OP posts:
Durbeyfield · 03/10/2021 21:34

Okay that’s a bit different then.
What about these?

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-gin-patent-leather-suede-loafers-black/p4855132
See, I would wear those, but I'd wear them to work/to the shops. That's what I'm really struggling with - the difference between everyday flats and flats that you can wear to a posh do.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it, and I could just wear something like those?

OP posts:
lilacmoon78 · 03/10/2021 21:57

low heels with blocks like these are very "in" at the moment and i expect would be much more comfortable than more traditional high heels
