Hobbit Feet & Cruel Work Footwear

I have really wide feet. As in, forget about wide fitting from places like Clarks or M&S. E and EE width are definitely not wide enough. My feet are shaped not unlike the boxes that shoes come in. Only size 5 though. The only place I can find anything with a really wide box toe that fit is Keen but they currently don't stock anything suitable for a return into the office. The only things I've found online have looked like something my late grandmother would turn her nose up at. All ruched leather bootees and whilst I'm no style guru, even I have some standards. Please does anyone know where I can get some flat, lace up boots or v smart trainers that I can wear with trousers ? Thank you.

Conker shoes do bespoke fit, if there are any suitable styles.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 02/10/2021 10:57

Barefoot shoes are perfect for 'hobbit feet'. There is a variety of sole thicknesses but you can also add an insole to give more protection.

Try the FB group 'Barefoot style - the place to geek out over all things barefoot' and the website 'Anya's Reviews', eg:

JD Williams do EEE and EEEEE styles

Those toe boxes are disturbingly bunion-shaped.
jessiecakes · 02/10/2021 11:11

I know they are not great looking but if proper wide is required, Easy B do all the way up to 8E. The have removable insoles so you can put your own in the would further cushion from the pavement if you are sensitive to that. Anything over 3E is specialist and you will always struggle with well know brands.

Calla shoes specialises in shoes for bunions and problem feet, are a lot nicer in design than Easy B but more pricey. Worth it though.

I thought I was alone with my hobbit trotters. Thank you everyone for taking the time to post. I shall sift through the suggestions and get ordering. If all fails, I shall lash the shoe boxes to my feet.

I have super wide feet, have to buy extra wide fit walking boots etc.
I find Ecco boots and trainers great. They're expensive but last for ages, and you can sometimes find them in TK Maxx.
They sell the almost impossible to find women's black gortex trainers that are smart enough for work.
I have the leather Elaine Chelsea boots. Leather really high quality so keeps your feet dry and the sole has barely worn after several years of wear.

PetitePiggy · 02/10/2021 11:22

I tried ECCO SOFT 7 W - too narrow I'm afraid.

I've just bought some lovely shoes from Sargasso and Grey which are v pretty and very wide

3luckystars · 02/10/2021 11:32

I’d go up a size or half size as it would give more room.

Any chance of a photo? I have wide feet but I thought uggs fitted everyone!

This is probably a stupid thing to say but Maybe you have very sensitive feet and they are not all too small but they are just rubbing off your feet?

MilduraS · 02/10/2021 11:33

How big is your budget? My boss swears by Sargasso & Gray but they're pricey. sargassoandgrey.com/collections/wide-fit-work-shoes

Please don't do this. It's a common mistake people with wide feet make but is dangerous for several reasons. You will start to walk with a weird clutching toe type walk to hold shoes in place that are too long and your feet are sliding in them. This can cause deformities in your toes over time. If your foot moves too much in the shoe, it creates instability. As we age, we loose muscle tone and it's hard to maintain tone in your ankles, so you become more prone to falling, stumbling and tripping over yourself. Shoes that are too long make this worse and more likely to injure yourself.

Get correctly fitting shoes and it's not just your feet that will thank you, your knees back and shoulders will also benefit. Incorrect walking posture effects your hold body.

I am a seven with very wide feet and awful hammer toes. I need wide with a big toebox.

Rocket dog boots work for me.

Also DM Mary Janes (but last time I looked they didn’t have them!)
And if I can get away with it, these incredibly comfy trainers from Amazon. £26 and the comfiest shoes I have had for ages

I am prepared to pay @MilduraS - though it really does irk me when you see lovely shoes that people not related to Bilbo Baggins can wear that cost around £60. My Keen walking shoes cost £129 so I will (grudgingly) cough it up it up when I have to.
Don't worry @jessiecakes - I won't fudge the sizing. My days of foot cruelty are over.
Thanks again everyone - I have a lot of options now and having recommendations helps. There are some hideous styles out there though - as if those of us from Hobbiton don't have enough to contend with.

My issue with the little toes curling under is definitely genetic. I always wear shoes that are plenty wide enough - thankfully I don’t have an issue with this - and my little finger on both hands curls inward slightly too. My sister is exactly the same, my DGM was too & she mentioned it being a family trait.

whatnextdandelions · 02/10/2021 17:08

hello from another hobbit. I generally just buy things a few sizes too big, as long as I can lace them up it seems to work out ok. I have some nice boots from M&S wide fit and also asics trainers are comfy and wide enough. Also fitflops work out well for me in the summer (again a size or so up from my real size, but comfy enough)

Morgantowers · 02/10/2021 17:27

Simply Be.

They have standard, wide, extra wide, Ee wide and the EEE wide. I can’t fit in clarks or marks wide shoes and I’ve just bought boots in an extra wide. My point is you will find shoes there. Good luck

thinkfast · 02/10/2021 17:48

Have you tried vandal OP?

Ecco are too narrow for me but vandal are fine. Also new look wide fit in a size bigger than usual

I have feet like that - H width and widest at the toes. So many shoes and boots just don't work.

Allbirds are perfect for my feet but I'm not sure they'd be smart enough - depends what you need. I recently got the high top mizzles and they are the most comfortable shoes ever, and both warm and water repellent and simultaneously incredibly light. Mine are charcoal grey with white sole and I think look fairly smart, but not smart-smart. Allbirds do ballerinas but no really smart shoes.

Thunderface · 02/10/2021 18:19

When I was younger I could wear New look/Simply be/Asos wide fit but the quality can be hit or miss. Now comfort is my priority in choosing footwear so I avoid cheaper, fashion wide fit footwear.

Plus Evans does EEE + footwear.

Stick EEE or EEEE fotwear into google and you'll find shoes. My life is even worse I have 5 and a half size feet and finding half sizes in extra wide sucks big time.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 02/10/2021 22:00

Also check out Amazon they do EEE and EEEE trainers and shoes.

Re: toes curling over, if they do that strap them to the next toe with plaster so they lie straight while you are out and about, I'd put a bit of gauze between the 4th and 5th toe so they don't get sweaty and blister while they are strapped together. - I am a podiatrist.
