Black trousers that fit like jeans

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/09/2021 11:26

I'm looking for a pair of black trousers that will fit like a pair of skinny or slim leg jeans. I can't really wear jeans at work, though occasionally through the summer I've worn dark skinny jeans with a nice blouse and belt and it looks lovely. I tried the same look with the 100 pairs of black trousers in my wardrobe but it just doesn't look as good, or feel as comfortable.

So I suppose I'm looking for black slim or skinny fit trousers that have good structure/support in them, that I can wear a belt with. Do they exist?!

Check out Uniqlo, I have all their skinny jeans/jeggings and they are great quality, affordable and wash well. Also have their linen culottes, love them all feel like they'll all last me many years!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/09/2021 20:30

Feeling the love for Uniqlo! I saw a lovely wool dress on there too so might put in an order...

What kind of material are the Uniqlo trousers, are they hard like denim? I find denim really comfortable now, but like the look of skinny jeans

Was meant to say uncomfortable

I have some amazing black work trousers from next tailoring, not sure if they still make them.
As comfortable as leggings, but smart. Slim fit, stretchy, but slightly flared around the calf and very flattering.
They are cut differently to normal trousers: 2 seams in each leg, (towards the front of the leg) and no seam at the back. So each trouser leg is 2 pieces of fabric, rather than a single piece rolled into a tube iyswim. Which sounds weird, but they look really nice.
I've had mine ages now, and they've lasted really well (still black, whereas I find some clothes especially denim fades after lots of washing).
I really hope they still sell them!

Gap slim ankle pants are what I wear and they fit your criteria

BobaFettOnMyBedsideTable · 30/09/2021 08:07

I've got a couple of pairs of these for work. Had the same criteria as you. The regular fit finish just above the ankle and have been good for warmer days with sandals etc. I bought a longer length pair to wear with ankle boots and turn them up slightly.

My sister is a teacher and has the exact same problem - wants skinny black trousers but not obvious jeans. She got them from Next.

IamJuliaJohnson · 30/09/2021 08:16

I like the fat face 5 pocket jegging which I think comes in black (I have navy). They’re very stretchy and don’t look like jeans, but fit like skinnies.

TrueRefuge · 30/09/2021 13:53

@ElephantCup, Uniqlo jeans very soft denim (cotton), not at all stiff! (I'm talking to the skinny versions).

These

Really comfortable but smart

GemmaRuby · 30/09/2021 14:59

I also have the Uniqlo ones. They are really nice and thick, but stretchy.
I’ve had mine for 6 years and have worn them so much they’ve got holes in. Pleased to see they still have them, I’m going to order some more!

It’s worth keeping an eye out in future, I think they change the colours, I have some lovely navy ones.

Thank you all so much, lots of great suggestions here Smile

Boden bootcut

Beautybunny · 30/09/2021 21:10

I am the Queen of the black trouser having 27 pairs. Marks do a cotton mix at £35 and a silk wool at £59 (last of the range but only to a 16).I have three pairs of these and one from 2013! Very comfortable. I wash both although the wool mix say dry clean. Woolite.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 30/09/2021 21:33

I came on to say Next black lift slim and shape. They are so black they don't look jeans.

Or Gap skinny fit cargo trousers.

Or something like ponte trousers from Boden or Winser miracle trouser.

These are fab, so comfy I’m going to buy a 2nd pair. Lovely high waist & good to dress up or down x

Kinko · 30/09/2021 23:24

Have a look at Acai trousers - I have three pairs, some fleece lined and when I was in the office wore them constantly with a brown belt, silk blouse and jacket. I wear them round the clock to be honest, on muddy dog walks too.

Wash on a 30 and they dry quick. They are waterproof and comfy.

They aren't cheap but I think they look great.

I think Spanx do black trousers...

Lupinhere37 · 01/10/2021 04:24

I second Gap. I have four different colours of skinny “khakis” or “city wear” for work and they always look smart with a blouse. I would only wear the black ones during winter as the other colours seem to come across as too lightweight in winter; even the navy. They wash so well; two pairs I’ve had for five years. They are generous in size; I buy 12 in Next and 10 in Gap.
I also agree about Next black jeans. If you get black rather than washed out black, they’re very smart and hold their colour if washed inside out with colour wash.

Justilou1 · 01/10/2021 04:41

Uniqlo is your friend. They have heaps of fabulous styles in clever fabrics. If you want them for work, they have the Smart Comfort fabrics are great for work as they wash and dry really well and quickly.
