Are you pleased with it? How did you choose your surgeon? Do you mind saying what you paid? Thanks, I'm a bit confused about how you would choose a surgeon.

Mr Russell Bramhall, lots of info on him online. Has an excellent website and there’s reviews on real self also. He was suberb, had it done in Glasgow

Anotheruser02 · 07/10/2021 17:12

Thank you! I'd travel anywhere in the UK to have it done, how long after would you say it is safe to drive?

I didn’t drive for a week but my vision was fine to. I wouldn’t have driven until day 4 probably just because you really just feel like resting. I walked the dog twice a day with sunglasses on from the next day and snoozed propped up on pillows or watched tv the rest of the time. I planned a week of down time x

Frederica22 · 07/10/2021 21:32

Day 7 after stitches came out x

They look great @Naaaaah and @Frederica22 - did people notice do you think? I wonder how much it would change my actual face, I’m not sure I’m wording this in a way that makes sense.

Missatkins · 14/10/2021 17:37

@Frederica22.. You look absolutely fantastic. I'm due to have the procedure on Tuesday and just wondered how long I'll have to be in hiding 🤔. Also, did you take anything to lessen the bruising and swelling eg arnica etc? Thanks in advance x

sammylady37 · 14/10/2021 18:20

I’m having this soon. Bit nervous but I can’t wait. I’ve had ptosis for years but in the last few months it has worsened on one side in particular.

I had an upper blepharoplasty 6 months ago. I can see you've had a few replies and may not need any more info but any questions, just ask.

Hi there, what was the recovery time? Just wondering how long I'll need to go into hiding as I haven't told anyone about the surgery. Also, did you take anything to help prevent bruising and swelling?Did you see a big difference? So many questions, so little time 😂
Notonthenewrug · 14/10/2021 21:19

@Missatkins with regards to recovery time, painwise I never needed so much as a paracetamol after surgery, obviously your eyes themselves are tender but no pain as such.
You'll be swollen the first few days (worse around day 2-4). At around day 7 (give or take a few days) the stitches come out and for me personally, you couldn't overly tell I'd had surgery as the incision lines fall in the crease of your eyelid. On one eye the incision line did extend outside my eyelid and I did have a huge panic that I would always have a visible scar. However, the surgeon reassured me it would be almost invisible (I still panicked) but he was right. It's not visible and he had to go slightly longer on the one eye due to the excess skin.
I did have some swelling and bruising. The bruising probably lasted around 10 days and it extended to my upper cheeks, however it wasnt too bad and could be covered with make up. The swelling was worse for the first few days. By day 7 you wouldn't notice it, although I believe you can have around 10% swelling for several months post surgery, but it isn't noticeable.
I didn't take anything for the dwelling or bruising but didnt go far for 2 weeks. Luckily it was sunny some days, so I wore sunglasses for the school run. I was sent home with a cooling device to put on my eyes for the first 48hrs.
Yes, there is definitely a noticeable result and it is the best money I spent. I was 34 having it done and hated my excess skin and hooded eyes. I was always told it would be a conservative and natural result and it was. I did have skin tightening treatment (laser type) in the past as I was told it could tighten the area and reduce my eye hooding. It cost £800 a go with no guaranteed results (I literally saw no difference) and they advised at least 3 sessions! It took weeks for the swelling to go down. The upper blepharoplasty had guaranteed results, less downtown and much less painful!

If you want any pics, let me know. I took pics everyday of my recovery.

Wow, what a great, informative response. I'm 50 (almost 51 😒) and I've wanted this procedure for years. I'm sick and tired of looking sick and tired, even when I've had plenty of sleep. My issue is more fat pads than saggy skin, so my eyes constantly look puffy. I'd love to see some photos.. I have a strong stomach so you can send any pics of immediately afterwards! Where abouts in the UK did you have your surgery? I'm in the North West and I'm having my surgery in North Manchester. Thanks again x

Notonthenewrug · 14/10/2021 21:43

@Missatkins no problem, I wanted to give a decent answer because I spent so much time searching for information before my op and wanted to know as much as possible!
Also to add that after surgery they give you drops to keep your eyes moist because your eyes can become dry (from lack of blinking possibly?), I didn't have any irritation or dry eyes at all. You also get chloramphenicol ointment to put on the incision line and inside the bottom eyelid twice a day.
Here are my eyes before...

These are...
4 hours after surgery- they look worse than they are and felt fine. They drew the incision line on in dark purple and it bled into the skin, which is why is looks worse. Also I had a little bleed on this pic but it was a one off.

Pic 2- day 2 and probably the most swollen

Pic 3- day 3- note the asymmetric healing
Apparently asymmetric healing is the rule rather than the exception. I still emailed my surgeon in a panic and was convinced it wouldn't rectify (it did).

I'm in Wales and had my surgery in a private clinic here. It cost £3200, from what I've seen people have paid less in England but it seemed standard price here (I got 3 quotes).

How are you feeling about getting it done @Missatkins? Honestly, it's the best thing I did!

Notonthenewrug · 14/10/2021 21:58

@Anotheruser02 just seen your question about driving. I drove 2 days after but had no soreness, dry eyes or blurred vision.

The results are absolutely amazing... You must be thrilled. I'm having my surgery on Tuesday and honestly I can't flippin wait. The cost is £3800 - there were some cheaper options, but having done my research, the clinic I've decided on sounds very good. If I'm brave enough, I'll post some pics 😂. I really appreciate your helpful posts x
Ifonlyiweretaller · 14/10/2021 22:46

@Missatkins Can I ask where you are going for your treatment specifically please? I'm in the North West and your surgeon could be ideal for me - and you've clearly done your research which is helpful too Smile I've been considering doing this for a while now as I age and my lids become more hooded ...

@Missatkins ....I've had a notification of a PM but I'm buggered if I can access it! I'll have a go in the morning when I can find my password ( even though I must already be logged in to write this, it tells me I have to log in to retrieve your pm! Im so rubbish 😉

Ha ha ha ha.. I'm also rubbish with technology.. A complete luddite!! Not sure if I'm breaking the rules, but the details are Pedro Gonzalez at the Face and Eye Clinic in Northenden. He only does eyes and travels all over the world and he really put me at ease at the consultation. X

Missatkins · 16/10/2021 15:36

Is it OK to drive after the procedure? I'm due to have this on Tuesday under local anaesthetic and haven't told anyone I'm having it done, so can't ask for a lift. The clinic have stated that I shouldn't drive, but just wondering if I'll be OK to. Thanks in advance x
