Looking for a REALLY warm coat. Ideally slight stylish but happy to sacrifice that for the sake of warmth. It does need to be hip length, not long line though.

Didriksons?

DrRamsesEmerson · 22/09/2021 19:42

I love my Jack Wolfskin. Warm, waterproof and wind proof.

grey12 · 22/09/2021 19:44

I got a nice cheaper one from SuperDry. Very good Smile (I bought a size too small for my NorthFace one SadSadSad stupid stupid stupid! Angry)

grey12 · 22/09/2021 19:46

Btw, the NF one was activewear but more stylish, black. The SD one was more young, red Grin because why not for a year! (Still great! And I love it!)

ImInStealthMode · 22/09/2021 19:46

The warmest coat I've ever had is from Superdry, it's like wearing a sleeping bag Smile

I think it looks (a bit) more stylish than an average parka or puffer jacket because it nips in a bit at the waist and sits just nicely on the bum instead of flapping around my thighs.

BrilloPaddy · 22/09/2021 19:47

Jack Wolfskin - really amazing quality.

Seasalt - my dog walking coat is equally brilliant.

FionaMacCool · 22/09/2021 22:55

I am an absolute perisher and live in my warm coats from now til April ...almost cant wait to pull them out again.

I have a Vila Clothing one- relatively cheap and cheerful. Long parka style, zip up, roomy, pull cord waist. Hood. Roomy pockets.
Perfect for sitting in a cold car, waiting to collect children from (....insert activity of choice). Not particularly stylish, but adequate to pop into a shop for milk etc.

Last winter, I spent a ridiculous amount of money on a North Face Arctic parka, with an extravagant hood.
Was it ever worth it last year...oh, yes.
Warm++
Waterproof- tick
Stylish- tick
Suitable for work- tick
Sit outdoors for coffee- tick
I thought I'd keep it for "good wear"... I didn't, twas too cosy.

My warmest coat is from Landsend! I'm not usually a fan of their stuff, but I saw a duvet coat which is ankle length last winter and it is so, so warm.

Dinnertime22 · 22/09/2021 23:09

I got one from Hobbs. It is so warm, but not bulky.

PersonaNonGarter · 22/09/2021 23:31

Get a coat from a ski brand. Pricey but worth it if warmth is the goal.

Susannahmoody · 23/09/2021 02:23

NF Parka. But they are warm I. E. May be too warm for the UK, tbh.

TonkinLenkicks · 23/09/2021 03:00

Super dry or TOG24. I’ve got one of each and the coldness literally canny penetrate them. I love them.

TonkinLenkicks · 23/09/2021 03:01

Both mine have microfibre in them, I think that’s what makes them warm

WhereAreWeNow · 23/09/2021 10:34

Didriksons

minipie · 23/09/2021 10:38

Superdry here too. Look a lot like canada goose but without the real fur or the ridiculous price tag.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 23/09/2021 11:26

The trouble is it depends what you're used to. Years ago when I bought a wool peacoat from J Crew it was noticeably the warmest coat I'd ever had - I'd only owned high street coats before. Now I'd probably need to try a much more expensive brand to get the same feeling of "wow that's so warm". So I'd say just spend as much as you can on a coat that you like - probably a down puffer style if you like the look of those. A Superdry coat is definitely not going to be as warm as Canada Goose.

FloconDeNeige · 23/09/2021 11:33

Canada Goose - but there are questions about how ethical they are.

I’ve had mine a few years now (DH too). We live in a Swiss ski resort and it was -17C last winter. Never been cold in that coat. If it’s higher than around 2C outside then I’m too hot in it!

Lovemusic33 · 23/09/2021 12:56

I’ve been wearing my superdry coat for 3 or more years, cost me around £100 (which is a lot for me), I walk a lot and it’s really warm.

Waterproof or not? If so seriously waterproof?

Lavenderpillow · 23/09/2021 14:02

Please don’t buy Canada Goose coats. What they do to the animals is absolutely horrendous.

SweetPeaPods · 23/09/2021 14:10

Watching this with interest. Need a new coat this winter to keep me warm and dry while watching kids play football and rugby at a weekend. Debating whether it's possible to get a coat that is both warm and waterproof or if I need 2 depending on the weather.

LoveLabradors · 23/09/2021 14:32

Canada Goose is a monstrously cruel brand. It speaks volumes about those who wear them.

minipie · 23/09/2021 14:55

@AGreenerShadeofKale

I have the longer version and would say it’s water resistant. I haven’t tried it in a downpour
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/09/2021 15:12

I’ve always found Lands End really good. And they have good sales.
