Can I get an honest opinion?

I really need a new pair of warm, waterproofing boots for winter as spend 2 mornings a weekend watching DC play football and rugby.
I currently have some quite worn out Merrell boots which have seen better days and am getting embarrassed by but are £££
I've seen these which are a lot less and I think are quite nice, but I think it's an old lady shoe brand (I'm mid forties). Before buying them I just wanted some honest opinions, I was thinking of probably the taupe but possibly the grey or olive. I'm not keen on the lining on the other boot colours.
Many thanks!

I think they're just fine and perfect for your needs. Great price, too.

DotBall · 22/09/2021 15:16

Water resistant isn’t waterproof. Your feet will get wet standing in damp grass.

SausageRoll2020 · 22/09/2021 15:31

It might be a bit of a frumpy brand but these boots are fine, and look totally the right style for standing in a park whilst sport takes place

SirenSays · 22/09/2021 15:35

I'm not keen on them but I can't put my finger on why exactly. The olive colour is better than the taupe imo. Not a bad price either.

Wotwhywhen · 22/09/2021 15:35

I really like them.

How waterproof they will actually be though is anyone's guess.
You'd be better off with wellies and thick wooly socks and then change into the nice boots at the car. 😋

whatnumber · 22/09/2021 15:41

I think you'd be better off with a taller boot with 'furry' lining and two layers of socks.
I also have heated insoles!
Make sure you have a long coat too.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/09/2021 15:50

I too spend a lot of my winter weekends on the side of a pitch so I feel your pain!

A few years ago I decided to just wear wellies. I wear extra warm socks and put my wellies on before I get out of the car. I can easily wash them down if they get mucky. You can even get fleece lined wellies to be extra cosy!

Lasttimeneveragain · 22/09/2021 15:53

Oh, I quite like them. Totally get the old lady brand thing too. My DM says the same and she's in her 70s Confused.

Like others have said, you might want to look into longer boots. I'm outdoors a lot and much prefer knee high boots for keeping my legs warm. I wear long socks up my legs under them too.

Whybirdwhy · 22/09/2021 15:57

If you really need warm footwear, snow boots and two pairs of socks will keep your feet toasty in minus temperatures. Maybe not as stylish thom

PostItNow · 22/09/2021 15:59

I wouldn't think they'd be warm enough.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 22/09/2021 16:02

They’re just fine for what you’re planning on wearing them for. I wouldn’t be going out for dinner in them though. Echo the will they be warm enough sentiment though. I’d go for big standard wellies with sheepskin liners personally

Runforwine · 22/09/2021 16:09

I had these boots last year, really comfy. However, they only last a few month before the sole came away and I sent them back for a refund. Look nice but not fit for purpose.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 22/09/2021 16:16

OP, they’re so patched together! Just look at all the places water could get in. And what with straps and buckles and inner knitted bits - lots of attention on things that aren’t about the primary purpose.

And if they’re selling them for £39.99 (in anticipation of profit) then they’ve spent as much on glue as on actual boot.

Don’t do it!

LowlandLucky · 22/09/2021 16:20

How cares what brand they are but they will not keep your feet dry.

peachgreen · 22/09/2021 16:22

Honestly, invest in a decent pair of wellies - I have an ankle height pair for just this sort of thing. They always look good because you look prepared for the weather!

I quite like the boots, as it happens, but they're not going to keep your feet dry.

Row1n · 22/09/2021 16:24

I dont know about whether theyre warm enough or waterproof but I really like them!

PattyPan · 22/09/2021 16:35

If you find some you like and are comfortable but aren’t waterproof, you could always get some spray-on waterproofing.

pisspants · 22/09/2021 17:44

ok thanks guys, duly noted! good to know my fashion sense isnt totally off but wont press on if will have cold feet and quality not great!
I have some wellies with liners but was quite cold when using them though was only wearing normal thin socks so maybe need to up my sock game instead, will def look into it, thank you

Yep, neoprene wellies are amazing. Warm feet, great for walking, hardly wear my hunters any more

MrsVeryTired · 24/09/2021 14:59

Snowboots Smile I got some last year for about £30 and they are fab, so cosy! should have got them years ago.

Divebar2021 · 24/09/2021 15:08

My Canadian relatives recommend Sorel as a brand - they’re dealing with tons of snow every year. I do have some Sorel lace ups which are toasty warm and waterproof. They’re not cheap but they do the job properly.

KirstenBlest · 24/09/2021 15:24

They're OK but I think you could get something warmer and waterproof. I would look at paying more and get something like Sorel or Timberland

BabycakesMatlala · 24/09/2021 15:26

Neoprene wellies are your friends here! Highly recommend Grubs frostline.
