Face wash for acne rosacea / really sensitive skin

Randomuser9876 · 09/09/2021 17:49

Any help greatly appreciated.

I started with rosecea 3 years ago... I was initially misdiagnosed which hasn't helped but 4 months ago prescribed soolantra which has really helped with the redness /flushing /itching. However I now start to get spots (didn't have many pre soolantra)

Anyway.. I was advised by a dermatologist last year to use Dermol 500 as a facewash and find it good but the gp who prescribed soolantra said I shouldn't use it long term.

Everything else seems to massively irritate my skin!! The Creave hydrating one after using twice had me in agony for a month and last night I used la roche posey torraline milk cleanser and now I'm itchy and red again.

None of the supposedly mild anti reaction stuff works, in fact quite the opposite. I feel like there's a strong fungal element to my skin and am better with stuff like tea tree that's antifungal.

Does anyone else have this skin type and what do you use? Am getting desperate.

I used Eucerin AtoControl Bath oil Wink it's really good

asmallbluecroissant · 09/09/2021 19:14

Following with interest. I am on Soolantra and also requested Azelaic Acid to help with the spots. It's working but I'd like a face wash to use alongside it all as I'm currently using Simple and I don't know if it's helping.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/09/2021 19:25

What do you need one? Is it for make up removal? If not just use a face cloth and tepid water, sometimes I use Cerave lotion as a wash.

Randomuser9876 · 09/09/2021 20:01

Yes, MrsPelligrinoPetrichor for make up removal. I don't find moisturiser used as a face wash works as doesn't remove bacteria.

Snap asmallbluecroissant, I've just been prescribed Fineaca to use in the morning (soolantra at night) but don't want to start using it when skin is still reacting to cleanser. It's really odd, soolantra has not helped with the spots (which it's for??) but I'm not complaining as no flushing or redness now (fingers crossed!)

I think the spots are a fungal thing (I've had serebohic dermatitis in the past which is caused by yeast) and that's why they're flaring when I can't clean skin properly but it's so difficult to find products that are antiseptic but not harsh on rosacea.

It's so fucking depressing.. 3 years ago I was beautiful with flawless skin.

Thanks for input folks

Carbon theory face bar. I have type 2 acne rosacea and it’s brilliant

www.paiskincare.com/products/camellia-rose-gentle-hydrating-cleanser?variant=32340443889751 fellow rosacea sufferer and soolantra has been a godsend for me to. The only cleanser that does not cause me any redness or itching is the pai one I have linked. It's expensive though but am happy to decant a little into a tiny little plastic travel jar and post it to you if you want to sample it.

Randomuser9876 · 09/09/2021 20:45

Thanks PineappleMojito I'll look into that... Is your face sensitive generally?

That's so kind of you pusspusspuss I actually have a consultation jobbie with Pai on Tuesday as I've heard good things about that cleanser.

I was diagnosed with rosacea but I think it might actually be fungal acne. If you Google there's quite a lot of information about what products make fungal acne worse. I had to throw out a lot of my make up, moisturiser, suncream etc. Rosacea products didn't help that much but fungal acne products did. I wouldn't recommend it as its quite extreme but I use Nizoral shampoo on my face a few times a week and that's what has made the biggest difference. I still some skin irritation/bumps but it is about 80% better.

Bromeliad · 09/09/2021 20:53

I've had lots of success with boots tea tree and Witch Hazel range. I use the foaming facial wash each night, the booster every morning & night and the soap when I have a shower. It's done wonders. I tried just water for a while but my spots were terrible.

LookdeepintotheParka · 09/09/2021 20:55

Have you tried MooGoo milk wash? I have similar skin - Soolantra really sorted out the rosacea but I still have to be really careful what I use on my face. I have no problems at all with the MooGoo.

You have my sympathy as it's a different combination of skin problems to deal with!

cabinfever102 · 09/09/2021 21:13

I use Roche Posay Toleraine gentle cleansing wash which is very non drying. I use Fincea in the morning and or afternoon but sometimes skip it if my skin feels dry or sore or reactive in any way. It has totally cleared up. Also cut out dairy and sugar. That made an even bigger difference. Redness virtually gone.

Yes, my skin is quite sensitive, the redness tends to be worse if I use something that doesn’t agree. I was worried about the tea tree in the carbon theory bar but it seems quite mild and so far I’ve not reacted.
Blueberryblueberry · 09/09/2021 21:21

I have roseaca (the type that only responds to antibiotics) and have awful flare ups. Best cleanser/facewash I have found is cetaphil - it's v gentle. I use to cleanse/remove makeup and also as a wash. (I know you've not asked about moisturiser but found the cetaphil moisturiser made my skin quote greasy so possibly good if your skin is very dry. I find diprobase is literally the only moisturiser that doesn't irritate my skin)

GreenEggsAndHamPlease · 09/09/2021 21:30

Cetaphil works best for me, I'll find a link

Backtoblack1 · 09/09/2021 21:33

I’m also using soolantra and use simple facial wash. I had ultra sensitive skin but this works for me x

GreenEggsAndHamPlease · 09/09/2021 21:35

This is the moisturiser I use on my face, note it is not the Daily Defence Moisturiser which I find too thick and clogs my pores. It's not cheap and quite hard to find but works well for my skin.

I have mild rosacea and I use the Clinique Take the Day Off balm. It's rich and unfragranced and doesn't leave my face feeling stripped like so many facial washes have.

Twinkie01 · 09/09/2021 21:49

Kalm do a whole range that are brilliant for Rosacea.

Wole · 09/09/2021 21:51

Cetaphil? The ceraveve made my skin feel burny

NerdyBird · 09/09/2021 21:57

I use baby shampoo as a facewash, it was recommended for ocular rosacea. I use micellar water for taking makeup off.

I developed mild rosacea through sun damage, so maybe different from yours. I use E45 emollient wash. It's not effective at removing thick makeup or waterproof mascara, so I would use something first and then wash my face with the E45 at the end. It leaves a slight film on the surface and I think that's what helped me to repair my skins water barrier. My rosacea seems to have gone now.

spiderlight · 10/09/2021 12:46

www.skinshop.co.uk/kalme - I haven't actually used these but my son uses their Clarol colloidal silver products and they've been absolutely brilliant for his teenage acne. The Kalme range for rosacea has very good reviews so they might be worth a look.
