Sandals that look good but are also comfortable enough for walks of an hour or two?

I get hot and sweaty far too easily and after a recent but very uncomfortable walk in jeans and a top, I've decided the way forward for walks is light dresses and sandals. But can anyone recommend any that look stylish but will also be good for walks of an hour or two? I'm in a new relationship with someone I very much want to hold onto so don't want to look frumpy but he also loves walking and I don't want to hold him back due to having blisters and foot problems (although he would never express any unhappiness as he is so lovely!).

Everyone that’s recommending Birkenstock’s - what am I doing wrong? I have a pair of Mayaris that I’ve been trying to break in and I keep getting blisters on the side of my instep

That's the thing about recommending birkenstocks on these threads. Chances are if you get along with them you probably already wear them. They are so ubiquitous and the obvious choice.

I have to buy three lots of orthopaedic sandles for DC and me. I've only ever got birkenstocks to work once for DS. When they worked they were absolutely totally fabulous, but I've never had a pair work since, theyve all been blister central. Not over surprising for DD as her feet seem to look at shoes and blister but I've worn a pair of Dr Martens for a week at DLP straight out the box with no problems! I dont think you are doing anything wrong, they just don't suit everyone. (if you get any joint swelling birkenstocks really dont work at all).

OP the vionics recommendation came from me. I'm not sure that have the same widespread reputation but I was recommended to look at them from a physio. my hyper mobile teenage trendy niece (theres a fair amount of Hypermobility in the family) tried them first and we've all been converted since.

Saltwater sandals. I have wider feet and am slightly larger than a size 8 but the Originals in an 8 fit me perfectly. They are sooo comfortable to walk in. Something I thought I’d never say as it’s so rare to get a sandal which looks great but is also comfortable!
By contrast my Birkentocks are TERRIBLE for walking in, they were actually ok a few years ago when I wore them a lot so maybe you just need to wear them constantly beforehand.
Good luck 😉

Meant to say I got the red ones and just putting them on cheers me right up!! And they go with anything.

Housewife2010 · 03/09/2021 06:51

I've been climbing hills and walking for miles in my Saltwaters this summer. They have no grip but I've managed to scramble up a rockface in them!

Housewife2010 · 03/09/2021 06:52

Saltwaters also have two styles with thicker soles for the first time this year. I just have the original and retro styles but not the new thicker soled ones.

Skechers

schnubbins · 03/09/2021 07:11

Skechers sandals look ok and are very comfortable for me and I have massive problems with my feet and ankle .

OP, ime birko flor is horrible synthetic stuff, plasticky on the outside and sort of synthetic fabricky on the inside and sweaty as hell. I've only ever been comfortable in proper leather Birkenstock's and I find they take a lot of wearing in to get them comfy, and they tend to become smelly quite quickly and then can't be washed.

Cloudbaser · 03/09/2021 07:15

I second the Hotter Tourist - I too thought no way I'm not old enough, but they are amazing for walking and also driving in snd actually look okay. Basically birkenstocks with a back. The soles are super comfy. Four different widths so you will get a perfect fit.

neonjumper · 03/09/2021 07:16

I bought the teva midform this year . I walk an hour everyday and I love them .

MissMarpleRocks · 03/09/2021 07:18

Vionic’s, vionics, vionics. They are the most comfortable shoes & sandals I’ve ever worn. I usually wear them around the house for a couple of hours just to wear them in slightly. I don’t even look elsewhere now. Expensive but worth every penny.

I should have added that vionics were recommended by my podiatrist. Also recommended strive footwear but I prefer vionics.

Wriggleon · 03/09/2021 07:33

I find my fitflop ones very comfy, much comfier than my teva ones.

cherrypiepie · 03/09/2021 07:48

I love my new Tevas. I did a weekend in London and did 20k+ steps a day in London.

My feet get far to hot in trainers and has various blisters and plantar faciaitis in other sandals and it ruins a trip or a day.

They are super on trend right now so can get them from office and schuh etc. I got a pair in the sale for £25.

DrNo007 · 03/09/2021 07:58

I love my Tevas — best for hiking that I’ve found. Had my first pair for many years and now about to replace them with another pair. I don’t find them sweaty and uniquely they do not go baggy with wear.

Xiaoxiong · 03/09/2021 08:01

I hiked for days round the Cornish coastal path in a pair of Merrell sandals - I've seen them called either Terran Lattice, or Jacardia but they're the same model as far as I can tell. Best sandals I've ever had for walking and nice enough to wear with a dress. My feet are very prone to blisters (Birkenstocks always, always give me blisters at the inside of my instep ) but these seem to hit just at the right spot.

DobbleWobble · 03/09/2021 08:12

I'd also recommend Hotter Tourist sandals. All leather, fully adjustable, arch support and lovely cushioned sole. I've walked miles in mine and they are very comfortable. Lots of colours available and currently they have a sale on!

Popitdontstopit · 03/09/2021 08:28

Birkenstock's (with a back strap) work for me for miles of walking, I have hotter tourist ones too and they are not as comfortable. Fitflop trainers very good too so maybe their sandals are as well!

WhereAreWeNow · 03/09/2021 09:09

I've walked for miles in my Birkenstock Mayari and my Fitflop Barra.

Lovemusic33 · 03/09/2021 10:32

I wear teva (black ones) 😬 and love them.

Also love moshulu, Keen and art sandals.

Squiz81 · 03/09/2021 10:54

I’ve got some Teva walking sandals which are great, I also got some Teva look a likes from Amazon - brand is Riemot. They are perfectly comfortable And cost about £15.

I own saltwaters but personally find the sold too thin for waking.

Best wishes for your treatment Flowers

HelgaDownUnder · 03/09/2021 11:41

Another vote for Naots. So comfortable and long lasting. I live in Australia so they definitely aren't too hot either.
I hope your chemo treatment goes well.
