Cool boots for country living

Hello, we are about to move to the countryside- proper rural farmhouse. Aside from wellies, what boots do people wear? I ‘d love something with a small heel, and waterproof that still looks nice!

I have these from F&F, my husband got them or my Xmas a couple of years ago, I’d say they are quite wide fitting on the feet but very comfy.

Much depends on your budget and style. They obvs do them in leather and also different styles.

Fairfax and Favor for smarter boots, and I like my waterproof Ariats (both short and mid-calf) for dog walking and general scruffing around 🙂.

Askinvillarblues · 29/08/2021 16:07

Also I have a 10% discount for first orders at Fairfax and Favor if any one would like it? fairfaxandfavor.mention-me.com/m/ol/oh9tp-b32d823161 It gives me 10% off too in the interests of disclosure 🙂

F & F for something stylish, but honestly, if it's proper 'countryside living' and you'll be out and about walking dogs etc I'd get yourself a pair of Muck boots. I wouldn't be without them. Warm and waterproof and I live in them in the winter.

FindingMeno · 29/08/2021 16:20

Depends what you're using the boot for.
A practical boot for the countryside wouldn't have a heel!

lemontova · 29/08/2021 18:07

Thanks everyone! No dog, I am not really an outsidey kind of person so more looking to fit in and look local at the annual country fair than wading through fields. Will check out Dubarry - f&f look gorgeous but I have narrow feet so anything wide fitting is really uncomfortable.

I wear Dublin river boots , but that’s for dog walking / general use .

Lonecatwithkitten · 29/08/2021 18:12

Waterproof and warm dog walking - I love my Dublin Boots for October to when it stops raining. Though I have actual snow boots for if it snows. Function over style for dog walking.
Small heel for going into town same boots I would buy if I lived in London still.

canyon2000 · 29/08/2021 18:13

If you are moving to the country you need at least 1 dog but preferably more!!

Chattercino · 29/08/2021 18:19

Dubarry! I've got F&F too, but they are suede so not remotely practical. Had my Dubarry's for 6 years and still going strong.

Did anyone else read F&F as Florence and Fred, the Tesco brand?

Country and cool aren’t really synonymous (except houses temperatures 😉).

We wear whatever comes to hand when out walking the dog/going to the pub/off to friends for drinks etc.

Squirrelonwheels · 29/08/2021 18:47

Moving to the countryside when you’re not outdoorsy is brave! To be honest to fit in and look local you’ll need some mud on the boots 😉
I bought some sheepskin lined, waterproof flat boots for doing the school run (walk) and walks around the village etc and I live in them for half the year. Dry warm feet is essential!

Bluntness100 · 29/08/2021 18:49

Sorry when I say quite wide fitting I probably didn’t explain myself, I find the foot base looks quite wide if that makes sense, they aren’t wide fitting, I’ve very narrow feet and they are very comfy.☺️

Lonecatwithkitten · 29/08/2021 18:52

To fit in at the county show you needs jeans, muddy boots, a Schoffel fleece and a worn shirt. As honorary veterinary surgeon I trade up the fleece for a plain blazer.
Honestly the older and more worn your clothes the wealthier you are. Maximum browny points for wearing Granny's evening dress to the presidents dinner.

raspberrymuffin · 29/08/2021 18:53

I wear the same boots I'd wear anywhere else, but now take care to buy ones with grippy soles so I don't slip on the (frequent) ice. If I'm going for a muddy walk I wear walking boots or occasionally my manky gardening trainers. I don't think there's a special uniform, unless you're trying to get in with the horsey people.

WhoppingBigBackside · 29/08/2021 19:19

Trailback boots

I've not seen them IRL but I like the look of them

HelenaJustina · 29/08/2021 19:23

@LordOfTheThings DH bought me boots from The Original Muck Boot Co as my Christmas present last year. I luvs them so much. My feet are now always warm and dry, they are heavy (but that’s a great added led workout) but like walking on soft clouds.

HelenaJustina · 29/08/2021 19:24

leg not led! Though I do a fair few miles leading dogs and ponies in them!

Softpebbles · 29/08/2021 20:32

I think a lot of people rate the valvedere botas Spanish boots over fairfax and favour recently. Cheaper and better quality.

dunkaccino · 29/08/2021 21:04

You become local by living there and by being nice, not by wearing a certain brand of boots. Don't try to 'fit in', there's really no need - just wear what you like and what you're comfortable in. Don't piss off your neighbours by moaning and/or wanting change and you'll be fine.

And just because it never ceases to amaze me at how many don't seem to do this, but do look around your house and garden to see if there might be fields surrounding you which may have loud and smelly animals, late night tractoring activity, shooting or any other agricultural activities that you might not like. Think of the whole year, not just what's there now - watch Clarkson's Farm to get a rough idea of what happens and when.

happylittlevegemites · 29/08/2021 21:06

I’m watching this thread, as am struggling to replace my much loved le Chameau Jamesons (the newer ones are a really different fit to my old ones).

I’d not thought of looking at F and F, mostly as I’m bombarded by their ads on Facebook. I wonder if their “explorer” is waterproof? @Askinvillarblues , I’d be glad of the discount code, please, in case I do decide to try them.
