Is the Philips Lumea worth the money?

And if so, which model?

I have dark hair so assume it’s suitable?

Thanks in advance

I got the Lumea Prestige and I’m very happy with it. I think in most cases there is vast improvement. But that improvement might not be complete permanent hair loss in the areas you treat. I still have some hair on my legs but I shave them so much less than I did.

foxychox · 18/08/2021 17:48

YES! My hair is dark so stubble was very noticeable when I shaved. Now I have smooth, pale (in a good way) legs, underarms and bikini line. The best result is my underarms, no dark shadows at all.
I got the Lumea Prestige as a Black Friday deal, definitely worth the money.....

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2021 17:49

Short answer - yes, for me. Think mine is the Prestige, I went for the most expensive, can't remember why. I've had it for 2 years. Used it consistently for a year then got a bit erratic, back into it now.

I have (small) areas where the hair disappeared and never came back (upper chin, moustache), and several areas where I shave about once every 3 months (feet, stomach), and areas that i shave every week/fortnight (legs/underarms) and areas I'm still working on quite intensely (cheeks, jaw, throat) but it's all much more manageable than it was.

HeReWeGoAgAiN1112 · 18/08/2021 21:16

All sounding very positive! I think I will treat myself 😊

I got a babyliss at about half the price and I’m really pleased with it

Salanda · 18/08/2021 21:34

Yes from me too. But if you can, wait to get one on sale - I got mine in Black Friday sales (I know, a few months away still) and saved loads.

Pilatesteacheruk · 18/08/2021 21:35

Yes! It's amazing, I hardly ever use it or shave now. I only wish I had bought it years ago!!

MarcelineMissouri · 18/08/2021 21:40

It’s honestly amazing. I used to have to shave my legs every day. Now I only need to catch the odd stray every few weeks and I haven’t even used the lumea for months!!

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 18/08/2021 21:41

Yes yes yes yes yes

Buttons294749 · 18/08/2021 21:43

Yes yes yes!!!
I got the £250 one as I wanted the corded (apparently you have the keep charging the cordless prestige to stop it dying and I cannot be added with that). I have very dark and thick hair and it's reduced so much,

Buttons294749 · 18/08/2021 21:44

I think the br1920 is corded

HighHighHopes · 18/08/2021 21:49

Yes. I've had mine nearly 3 years. Legs and armpits are hair free with minimal top up treatments.

Bikini line never responded too well but it's helped.

isthismylifenow · 19/08/2021 08:05

Has anyone with light body hair and freckly skin used one?

I was tempted to buy a cheap one just to try it out, but then I thought well the cheap ones probably don't work as well, so would be money wasted anyway.

HeReWeGoAgAiN1112 · 19/08/2021 08:24

Is the only difference between the prestige and the model below the fact the prestige is cordless?

OP posts:
TheWeeDonkey · 19/08/2021 08:36

Yes definitely

LemonLemonLemon · 19/08/2021 08:59

@isthismylifenow it works by picking out the dark hair on light skin. They don’t work well where you don’t have enough contrast between skin and hair colour

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 19/08/2021 09:03

Yes - it works best on if you have dark hair. It hasn’t worked so well on my sister pale leg hair where as my dark leg hair worked a treat!

Themadcatparade · 26/08/2021 17:51

Yes def worth the buy. Took me a few cycles for it to kick in but the general stubbbliness went almost immediately. Went from having to shave daily to every few days to once in a blue moon!
It all came back with a vengeance though after about 6 week of no use due to covid but had one session since and it seemed to have got rid of a lot of it quicker this time around.

I paid mine off on credit over 6 months, it was 350 originally.

TheFlis12345 · 26/08/2021 18:04

Absolutely worth every penny. I used it for 3 months on my armpits and the hair never grew back, that was 7 years ago!! There is very little difference between the products, other than being corded or cordless, and having different attachments.

itsevolutionbaby · 26/08/2021 18:13

100% yes.
Light skin, dark hair here. Got the Lumea Prestige and have been hair free for more than a year now with minimal top ups (perhaps twice in the past 12 months)

torquewench · 26/08/2021 18:53

Going against the grain here, but I found it 100% useless. I'm mousy with fair skin and it made absolutely no difference to me. Nowhere - legs, underarms, 'tache. No difference whatsoever

DreamThrum · 26/08/2021 21:45

I can't decide if it's worth it. Didn't work at all on my face. On my legs I eventually got rid of 90% of hair, but it came back pretty quickly once I stopped treating it. And a quick top up doesn't seem to help, so I think to really maintain it I'd need to just keep treating it every two weeks indefinitely, and I'm not sure I can be bothered.

Lawnpop · 26/08/2021 21:48

Do you have to shave first to use it or can it be used direct on the hair?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/08/2021 21:50

It wouldn't though ,would it ,with fair skin and mousy hair? Hair needs to be dark and skin lighter

torquewench · 27/08/2021 05:27

It should've done according to the colour chart in their marketing blurb. There's different intensities for different skintone hair colour etc. And to clarify, it's the hair on my head (no, I didn't try it there) mousy. Underarms, pubes and legs are black and coarse.
