Anyone got experience of a Rains coat?

I’ve finally found a waterproof coat I like the look of but I’ve not heard of the brand and they are expensive. Also some reviews say they smell of fish?

I have a Rains coat too. It’s great, several years old and going strong. No strange smell. I got mine from a local boutique clothing shop. They’re sold everywhere - no need to pay for shipping/returns from Rains direct.

I bought a unisex one following the size chart measurements on net a porter but had to exchange for a smaller size (and I'm fairly large of bust).

No fish smell. Seems great quality. Amazingly thin and light and yet totally waterproof.

I have two. My winter one is the coat of dreams, the rare combination of seriously warm and waterproof. I absolutely love it and worth every penny.

I have a summer one too. I think I just coose the wrong colour so don’t love it quite so much. Still very waterproof though.

Neither smell of fish...

Thanks everyone, I ordered from country attire, arrived quickly. Unfortunately was too big (I went off measurements on size chart) but returns were really easy and the smaller size arrived a couple of days later.
Very slight fish smell on opening but hung it outside and it seems to have gone.

It does only have a column pressure measurement of 4000 mm rather than 6000 as said on the website but will hopefully be ok for what I need it for. I have an ugly trespass 10000mm mac for for outdoorsy pursuits.

I bought one last weekend, and once I put it on it instantly smelled of fish. I called the store and they said "Yes we are aware of this, it's normal. Hang it out for 2 days and it will stop smelling, or you can wash it without detergent." So I am currently hanging it to air it. It smells less after 2 days but still has an odour. Let's hope it goes because it really is unpleasant. In the Spitalfields store they have pre-aired clothing on display. (The store assistant said this on the phone). Then they sell you a coat in a sealed bag. They didn't want me to check the coat in the sealed bag was the right one or try it on - now I know why. It's a pity because the coat is lovely.
