Anyone got experience of a Rains coat?

I’ve finally found a waterproof coat I like the look of but I’ve not heard of the brand and they are expensive. Also some reviews say they smell of fish?

They ate really good quality .
Quite trendy at the moment too.
Watch sizing - on small size for those of us large of bust.

Hadenough21 · 08/08/2021 08:59

I’ve just got one and I like it. Doesn’t smell of fish! Don’t buy it directly from Rains though, if you need to return it it costs a fortune to post back to Denmark! Lots of UK stores have them online.

burritofan · 08/08/2021 08:59

I live in mine. I don’t smell of fish, to the best of my knowledge.

HelenHywater · 08/08/2021 09:00

Yes I have a Rains coat. Really like it. It doesn't smell of fish!

Camrette · 08/08/2021 09:09

@Hadenough21 I have one in my basket direct from Rains so thanks for the warning!

Where did you all buy them from?

Camrette · 08/08/2021 09:10

Are the ones on amazon likely to be fakes?

I had one delivered yesterday. And bizarrely it does smell strongly of fish! I hadn't realised that was a thing until reading this thread.
Also, the arms are about 6 inches too long!
It's in the box ready to post back sadly

Hadenough21 · 08/08/2021 09:36

Have bought from countryattire.com and Whistles! If you google they sell them on lots of websites. The Rains website don’t do free delivery or returns so it can work out quite expensive if you don’t like it or need a different size etc.

I absolutely love my rains coat and it didn't smell of fish. I've also bought several rains bags in the past, including a weekend bag, a gym bag (which is waaaay too big for a gym bag) and my work rucksack which I use every day and fits my macbook perfectly and is big enough for loads of other stuff (and it's the mini rucksack). So the bags definitely come up big.

I've bought directly from rains but they've changed their shipping policy - used to be free returns and now it also costs £14 for delivery so I'll think twice about buying direct in future.

And although I love my rains coat it's waterproofness isn't as good as some other waterproof coats - I can't remember the measurements but I know when I did some research other outdoor brands came up better technically. But I love it anyway and mainly use it for town not hiking up a mountain - I've got proper outdoor brands for that sort of thing.

I have 2, I bought them both from zalando (returns are easy). They are overpriced but I like them so are willing to overpay. I did have to return one before I got my current ones as the pocket wasn’t stitched properly.

Miseryisabutterfly · 08/08/2021 10:12

*am willing

MrsSDK · 08/08/2021 10:43

Love mine, got it from Asos and they have 20% off everything today!

Camrette · 08/08/2021 12:19

@MrsSDK unfortunately they don’t seem to have many on asos at the moment. There was one on there yesterday I was looking at but it’s no longer there and can only find yellow, pink or shiny green now.

@Hadenough21 thanks, I had looked at county attire but wasn’t sure if it was a good site to buy from (most of the sites that come up are ones I haven’t heard of so I’m wary to give them that much money!)

Brexit seems to have led some EU companies to charge more for and make returns more complicated, had similar with Brooks (run wear, Germany).

Camrette · 08/08/2021 12:24

@sunsetandcocktails where was yours from so I can hopefully avoid the fish smell?

OP posts:
Hadenough21 · 08/08/2021 13:32

@Camrette Country attire was totally fine for me, arrived very quickly in eco friendly packaging and I got a good discount on it (it was Black Friday though)

moofolk · 08/08/2021 13:53

I have one it's great.

Bought it second hand from a charity shop, or did not smell of fish!

Mrsmchammer · 08/08/2021 15:44

Bought mine on Asos. It was absolutely huge.

HundredMilesAnHour · 08/08/2021 15:54

I have quite a few Rains costs - and bags. They're excellent quality and I've always found them very waterproof. I've bought them either direct from Rains (pre-Brexit though) or from Net-A-Porter (they did a collaboration together 2 years ago).

They're Danish so that means they tend to size to the average Dane (i.e. fairly tall) so if you're short, they may not work so well for you. The sizing is usually generous.

Annasgirl · 08/08/2021 16:14

I have one snd I love it. Bought in June from ASOS and due to the Irish Summer, it has been worn almost daily 🙄. Go small - I bought an XS after reading on ASOS reviews that they were huge. I’m glad I did. I am very tiny but if fits nicely - not too long( just below my knee, which you need in a raincoat) and I roll up the sleeves.

There was no smell of fish on mine!

asparalite · 08/08/2021 16:30

No smell of fish on mine either, bought from Rains, definitely on the big side though, but a really good coat keeps me dry when it's wet.

sunsetandcocktails · 09/08/2021 14:33

@Camrette I bought mine directly from Rains, but looks like I was just unlucky !

FastFood · 09/08/2021 14:45

Got 2 Rains coats, they're amazing, light weight, and they don't smell of fish at all. Bought from Rains (shop + e-shop).

RavingAnnie · 09/08/2021 14:52

Just had a look on the Rains website after seeing this thread. The models are VERY serious about their Rains coats. And if I may say so, slightly sinister looking. Maybe they are worried someone is going to steal their coat. Rains coats must be very good.
