Yoga leggings, crop tops etc - Nike, Sweaty Betty ?

OhRosalind · 01/08/2021 10:09

I’ve been doing a Pilates challenge and am planning to treat myself when I finish. I’m a newbie to gym wear as I’ve always worn cotton leggings so all the compression, dri-fit etc talk confuses me.

I’m looking at the Sweaty Betty super sculpt leggings and the Nike yoga luxe ones - does anyone have these? How is the sizing? How are they in terms of transparency, comfiness, are they flattering enough to wear out and about too or are they unforgiving like tights? Do you get visible sweat patches in lighter shades? I’m Size 6-8 so I’m thinking XS in SB and probably XS in Nike too, 7/8 length, does that sound right?

I also need a couple of tops, probably cropped as I’m 5ft2 and very short waisted- maybe the Nike luxe cropped top, if anyone has tried it? I’m 30DD and wondering if I’ll feel crushed in an XS top, I would also probably wear a sports bra unless the top is really supportive.

Any recommendations appreciated! I also like the aesthetic of Alo yoga, Free People and Girlfriend Collective but SB and Nike have the big advantage of being in the sale!

I like We Are Tala, Gymshark and LuluLemon.

I wear sweaty Betty all the time, great fit and not at all see through when bending, squatting etc. Definitely go fir 7/8 length or they will be too long and xs should fit. The SB tops are nice bit pricey for what they are but the leggings and everything else are worth the money. My username tells you how much I wear fitness wear!!

I have this pair of Nike leggings for workouts and I've had them ages I tried cheap ones but they just get holes in them due to the nature of use.

Sweaty Betty are good also don't buy cheap if you use them allot.

ActonSquirrel · 01/08/2021 12:37

Have sweaty betty buy not super sculpt they're very tight

I live in SB power leggings. Hold you in, compression for your tummy and bum and don't show sweat patches at all they stay dry.

these are still in the sale

I have them and they're lovely.

OhRosalind · 01/08/2021 14:07

Thanks all! I like the look of the power leggings @ActonSquirrel but several reviews say they aren’t squat proof which puts me off. Maybe it depends on the colour (I’d choose something dark).

I will look up those otherbrands but I’m in the EU and for fast delivery and free returns the zalando/ASOS sales are my best options.

Any alternative recommendations for tops @Pilatesteacheruk or others? Something cropped but more bellybutton length than bra…

I’ve got a lot of pairs of power leggings-they’re all squat proof.

I have more than 10 pairs...they absolutely are squat proof!
Pilatesteacheruk · 01/08/2021 19:19

@OhRosalind tbh I still buy the SB ones, I just think they are a bit expensive for what they are. They do some longer crop tops and they're vests are good

OhRosalind · 01/08/2021 19:36

Ok I’m leaning towards the power leggings, the review saying the sweat patches made it look like she’d wet herself have put me off the super sculpt ones.

Still considering Nike too as the price is good and they have some nice colours.

Any one tried any Free People moment stuff?

You won't have that problem with powers. No matter the colour they don't get wet patches

safetyzone · 01/08/2021 20:49

I prefer Nike to SB, I'm petite and I find Nike both fit me better, have better fabrics and last longer. My favourite is lululemon tho.

OhRosalind · 01/08/2021 22:40

Thanks @safetyzone, useful to have feedback from a fellow petite person. I thought lululemon was subscription but I must have confused it with something else, will have a proper look tomorrow then maybe order a selection to try.

Oysho and Onzie are my personal yoga faves

countdowntonap · 01/08/2021 22:45

Lululemon isn’t subscription- you’re confusing it with Fabletics

StarlightLady · 02/08/2021 06:41

Another vote for the Sweaty Betty 7/8.

HelenHywater · 02/08/2021 06:52

I also wear the Power leggings for yoga - completely squat proof. I wear the bamboo vests with the inner bra (not sure if they still do them) which are good for yoga.

Farevalah · 02/08/2021 07:03

DD loves the Gymshark stuff - always stays in shape and still looks new after many washes. She prefers that to SB or LLM.

LineofFruity · 02/08/2021 07:20

I have a lot of active wear stuff and have been through most the brands mentioned here at some point.

Sweaty Beaty are now the first and last brand I look at. Their leggings are totally squat proof and I’ve never had an issue with sweat patches. I have a lot of SB stuff now. I love their tops too.

OhRosalind · 02/08/2021 08:12

Ok I have ordered some SB power leggings to try. I had a SB tracksuit years ago that was the softest thing ever and I wore to death, hoping these will be as good. The SB tops all look the wrong length for me, think Nike and Lululemon look like my best bet.

The more I look at pictures of yoga clothes the less I want to wear my normal clothes and just switch to loungewear full time, it looks so comfy! I keep reminding myself I won’t look like the models in it though!

Yay! Which pattern in the powers! I've banned myself from buying any more so I have yo hey my kicks elsewhere...do share!

shallIswim · 02/08/2021 09:44

Another SB fan here. They wash and wash and wash and show no signs of wear or fade. They last years.

This makes them great value for money.

And they fit beautifully and reliably.

OhRosalind · 02/08/2021 12:20

@ActonSquirrel I was very boring and went for dark grey.

MoltonSilver · 02/08/2021 14:47

Lululemon have free returns from Ireland. I assume it's the same for the rest of the EU.

OhRosalind · 02/08/2021 14:59

Yes I saw that @MoltonSilver definitely a point in their favour. Considering ordering the align leggings and tank to try.
