I’m curious. As a vegan who apparently can preach, how do you rank for example:
Buying from a company like shein that has a very opaque ethical practices and very likely uses slaves, almost certainly the Uighur factories.
Eating meat but trying to buy uk meat only.
Owning and driving a petrol/diesel car to work every day.
Buying cotton, wool, linen etc vs non biodegradable polyester - ignoring price here and other ethical issues.
Personally I am more opinionated about the first one as it’s human rights issues, then the last one. The middle two I’m back and forth about. Of course some people need a car anyway for work so it becomes a necessity.
I appreciate all of these issues overlap. Environmental issues are often human rights issues. Animal rights issues are related to environmental issues.
Maybe you as a vegan find the idea of me consuming dairy as a vegetarian abhorrent. The very worst thing I could do.
I feel the same about fast fashion (cheap or expensive). The genocide of the Uighur Muslims in China is disgusting and I am far more opinionated about the rights of those people than I am about animal rights. Also the pollution from fast fashion is killing our planet.
None of us are perfect. We pick our battles. But as women who probably are the largest consumers of fast fashion in the uk we should be educated about where our clothes come from and the human and environmental impact of them. Much like we should all be educated about where our meat comes from and the issues from that.
I also think that if you push people to be perfect then they won’t even try. I am allowed an opinion on human rights issues even though I eat dairy.
