Going for the chop today

I have fine dull lifeless hair... I have posted on here before asking for ideas of what I can do with my hair. I'm booked in today... and I think I'm going to go short(er).

Pics of my hair. Second pic is what id love, but don't think my hair is thick enough to carry this off.

Any ideas?

Honestly- I like mine even when I just towel dry it and leave it! My hair is like baby hair. Really soft, super fine. Also, I really like the look of it tucked behind my ears too. Dd says it looks better that way!

Guiltymumofkids · 21/07/2021 12:09

I would think you could use something and mainly dry that upside down, I looks a lot like you could finger dry it.
I can get the volume in post watch, but after a nights sleep it’s gone, so reckon it’s a regular hair wash kind of cut.

Nuggetnugget · 21/07/2021 12:10

Oh good luck op. That's a stunning photo of what you want. I have similar hair to yours and tend to tie it up (every bloody day)

There will be a bit of daily styling involved but it looks gorgeous. Will be worth it.

YanTanTethera123 · 21/07/2021 12:10

Can anyone tell me how much hair product you have to use to keep it in place? Mine’s very fine and I would worry that it will flop over my face all the time!

Kjr33 · 21/07/2021 12:14

I would think mousse for lift and maybe some Matt hair clay type stuff to define the ends a bit, I think you would likely have to learn how to blow dry it it might be drying it in the opposite direction to how you want it to sit? If I were going for such a change I would speak to my hairdresser first and check she had time to teach me some styling etc…. I do think it’s lush though but not for my thick hair….it’d look like a crash helmet on me

lazylinguist · 21/07/2021 12:14

I put a bit of mousse in it and blow-dry it upside down for a bit, then use a round brush and blow the ends under. I might use a bit of hair spray if I needed to look particularly groomed, but that rarely happens!

Cocolapew · 21/07/2021 12:14

A bit of mousse would thicken it up and hold it in place. I love that style in your photo
I wish people would just fuck off with their karens and speaking to the manager haircuts, it's pathetic.

Cocolapew · 21/07/2021 12:16

This is also really good for holding hair in place, it defluffifies it Smile

Cocolapew · 21/07/2021 12:17

Opps

Good tip about the mousse.

Defluffifies is a very good word Grin. I think a bit of fluffifying is the only thing that gives my hair any volume though!

sulee · 21/07/2021 13:44

Your hair looks very much like mine OP and I had a similar cut a couple of years ago. I loved it and have never received more compliments. I’ve grown it now- just fancied a change, which is the beauty of a hair cut, it’s reversible!

I think posters who sling the 'Karen' insult about should be banned. Why do we tolerate women degrading other women because of their hairstyle, personality, age and gender ffs?

Name calling, whatever form it takes, is unacceptable.

Go for the hair cut op, it feels so liberating. I started kicking about with my hair in my 40s because I didn't want to spend the rest of my life trying to pretend I think I'm still 30. I've done lots of colours and cuts and some have been fab, while others have been a lot less fab. I now cut and colour it myself because that again is very liberating.

I couldn't care less what other people think of my hair or my clothes and I am so much happier now than when I was in my 20s.

MichaelMumsnet · 21/07/2021 15:30

Hi all. We've removed some posts from this thread because they pretty comprehensively derailed things. Hopefully it'll get back on track now. And good luck with the shiny new hair OP. Flowers

Friday999 · 21/07/2021 17:39

Really hoping it goes well OP, I have never managed to find a short style I’m happy with, so I’m back to shoulder length again …

Phyllis321 · 21/07/2021 17:48

Love it, OP. I had my very fine hair cut like that after I saw Sliding Doors in the 90s Grin. It worked really well.

MaMelon · 21/07/2021 18:02

Well OP...did you go for it?!

Disneyblue · 21/07/2021 18:05

I feel sorry for people called Karen. Genuinely.

My hair is like that and I love it. So easy to care for.
I'd rather that than the horrible mullet style hair people are going for at the minute

Rina66 · 21/07/2021 18:46

I think the thickening root powders would work really well on this style, just sprinkled around the crown and parting, they really do give your hair oomph without the frizzies that some of the alcohol based products can cause.

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 21/07/2021 18:49

My appointment was at 5.30 so sorry for the late update. It is shorter, but not AS short as the photo. I'll take a pic once I'm home.

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 21/07/2021 18:49

Should have said, I love it.

OP posts:
thewinehasgonetomyhead · 21/07/2021 19:38

Not the best photo but here we are. It's not as short as I would like, I think my hairdresser was being cautious. But it feels fantastic. No more straggly hair!!

Wow it looks thicker with the new style, and really healthy! Glad you're loving your new hair :)

IDontThinkSoNo · 21/07/2021 20:00

Is that an after pic op? It looks nice but its tied up so nothing like the short style you said you were getting?
