Help! How to get rid of natural tan

Cluckycluck · 16/07/2021 07:56

I'm super pale and usually never tan, I just go red then back to pasty white. Weirdly this year I'm finding I'm getting tanned and I hate it. I use SPF 50 religiously but I've managed to miss a few areas so now I have tan lines. I'm desperate to get rid of the tan lines, is there any way to help them fade quickly?

Exfoliate.

Cluckycluck · 16/07/2021 09:52

I've been exfoliating every other day and it isn't making a difference at all

Embrace your tan. It’s a natural protection and it will make you look healthier. Ditch the SPF 50 and use 15 if you have to. Going around in the chemical equivalent of a paper bag over your head is a fad that I hope will pass soon.

It's natural damage that will age your skin.

I look healthy without putting my skin at risk of damage and cancer. I will continue to use factor 50 to protect my skin.

I got told once that you need to exfoliate and moisturise lots to fade a tan.
Cluckycluck · 16/07/2021 11:05

I'll start exfoliating everyday and see if that makes a difference. I'm sure I was told moisturising extends a tan so I've been skipping doing it but I'll start again and see what happens. Thanks!

Wearing sun cream is a fad @Palavah ??

While we all need a bit of vitamin D, sun cream protects the skin from ageing, skin damage, and cancer...

Sorry tagged the wrong person there! Was meant for @borntobequiet

Jaysus what dreadful advice! I'm glad you are going to continue with the factor 50. I never wear less because I don't want to look like a handbag nor risk a melanoma
Justilou1 · 16/07/2021 11:14

@Palavah - I don’t know where you are getting the idea that a tan is natural protection against sun damage, but I think you need to do your research.

cookiemonster5 · 16/07/2021 11:15

Unless you stay inside you won't ever not get a tan even wearing factor 50. It's a myth that sunscreen prevents tanning. It helps stop you burning from uvb rays and damage and ageing from uva rays.

Covering up with long loose layers in natural fabrics or fabrics with sun protection built in are your only options.

SpamIAm · 16/07/2021 11:36

Continuing to push the idea that tanned skin looks healthy isn't particularly helpful 🙄

All natural skin tones are healthy and beautiful. The fact that women still feel the need to cause damage to their skin and risk cancer to get darker skin that they're told looks better is awful 😔

Move to Ireland.

Tanned skin is damaged skin. It's not healthy.
User5827372728 · 16/07/2021 12:00

Tanned skinned with factor 50 on doesn’t mean it’s damaged!

I’m mixed raced and go almost black even with a factor 50 on but that doesn’t mean my skin is getting damaged.

Suntanning is skin damage. Aging and causes cancer.
borntobequiet · 16/07/2021 12:15

Sunscreen is a good thing. This morning I put factor 30 on my face, neck and chest, factor 20 on my arms and 15 on my legs. That was because I was cutting hedges in full sunlight for 3 hours. If I sit out or lie in the sun I use a suitable SPF cream. In the summer I use a moisturiser with SPF 15 if it’s bright outside.
However factor 50 all the time is mostly unnecessary - I suppose there could be circumstances where it’s needed, but I don’t know any. Using products containing SPF through the winter months, when you hardly ever go outdoors, is daft. Frightening and guilting women into believing that if they don’t wear sunscreen all the time, whether indoors our outdoors, whether it’s sunny or not, whether it’s day or night - as the beauty industry does - they will irredeemably damage their skin or get cancer, is reprehensible and a money making scam.

MissSmiley · 16/07/2021 12:31

@Cluckycluck I'm pale too and got strap marks one year, I still had them nearly a year later, they take ages to fade, if it's the strap marks that you don't like the only cure would be to evenly tan over the top, in my experience anyway

Guavafish · 16/07/2021 12:39

The tans will fade in some weeks. There is nothing you can do to get rid of it quickly. It’s your bodies why of providing you natural protection from the sun.

It’s the summer session… so you might find that the tan will continue if you have continued sun exposure even if you put factor 50 spf.

Do you have much sun exposure? Wear long sleeve tops and trouser/long skirts. Also wide brimmed hats to reduce the sun exposure. I would continue with the spf 50 and exfoliate/moisturising.

Cluckycluck · 16/07/2021 19:40

Thanks all!

I'm incredibly sun sensitive so spf 50 almost all year round if I'm outside is a must for me. I've never developed a tan before so I'm perplexed as to why all of a sudden its started happening. I wouldn't usually be as bother but I have a couple of events coming up in the next couple and tan lines everywhere are going to look terrible. I was hoping to get rid of them for those but maybe I need to look at some kind of fake take to even out.

Factor 30 is healthier. It will protect your skin but let some of the natural vitamins from the sun in.

User5827372728 · 16/07/2021 19:43

Where do you live that you need factor 50
All year round?

Do you take a vit D supplement?

Cluckycluck · 16/07/2021 20:55

Not deficient in vit D so no supplements necessary, I'm just sun sensitive and always have been.

Can I ask how old you are? Curious as I am late 30’s and seem to take a tan far easier now. I like pale and interesting!
