I'm not large but I have cellulite. I tend to wear long skirts to hide it. Please tell me someone has found a way to get rid .. of all of it?!

Dry brushing everyday will help... cellulite means you have high levels of collagen so not so bad as you think!

SummaLuvin · 14/07/2021 21:57

cellulite is normal - like freckles, stretch marks, skin texture... not saying I can't understand wanting to reduce the look, but we shouldn't pretend it's some horrible abnormality that should be abolished.

thedevilinablackdress · 15/07/2021 07:51

I'm afraid the answer is no. I used to stress so much about my cellulite in my 20s and 30s and still don't love showing my legs a lot. However, it is natural, I will not hate my body for it.
Exercise (mainly walking and yoga), eating better and drinking less alcohol seems to have improved it a little over the years.
Or maybe it was never as bad as I imagined.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 15/07/2021 07:55

If you add 2 tbsp of ground flax seed to your diet it temporarily hides the appearance of cellulite as it boosts the collagen or something. I'm sure it doesn't work for every one but everytime I've done it it has worked (and then come back when I've stopped). For a couple of £ it's worth a try. I just added it to cereal or a smoothie and after a week got smooth thighs.

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2021 11:38

Yes. Lots of exercise.

idontlikealdi · 15/07/2021 11:40

No.

You can improve the appearance through diet and exercise.

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2021 12:23

You can improve it through diet, and by that I mean being careful what you eat and drink but not necessarily by trying to lose weight.

You can get rid of it by lots and lots of exercise.

High levels of collagen are more likely to mean less cellulite. Reduction in collagen is more associated with cellulite. This is why post menopausal women have worse cellulite.

Well this has cheered me up. Is this why I have cellulite but remain relatively unwrinkled ?
ZaraW · 15/07/2021 12:35

@KirstenBlest

Yes. Lots of exercise.
I disagree. I exercise 5 times a week, cycle and walk a lot. It may help but it never disappears.
Bgy78 · 15/07/2021 12:36

I started a thread the other day about this. There were some useful suggestions

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2021 12:51

@ZaraW, it depends what exercise you do. walking and slow cycling and aerobics won't shift it, but weight training, running and spinning will.

The bad news is if you stop, it will come back.

Ozanj · 15/07/2021 13:02

Exercise (particularly flexibility based ones like yoga and pilates) will help you shift it or reduce appearence. It’s often why you don’t see overweight yogis / pilates instructers with masses of cellulite. Diet also makes a difference - basically anything that is good for the heart is good for cellulite because it can appear / get worse due to circulation issues.

I do weights, cardio and power yoga. Also just started jump rope and p volve. Diet is good. It's too simple to say lots of exercise will stop it. Everyone is different.

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2021 13:36

Maybe ZaraW. I'm naturally lean, and put on muscle very easily if I exercise, so what works for me might not work for you.

Cheeks4970 · 15/07/2021 14:55

I have had cellulite my whole life and I hate it. I have been on a mission of late to give it a really good go and try to see if I can get rid of it or at least some of it.

I have read a lot about muscle atrophy and do believe this could be my issue as I have never really had good muscle tone in my legs (even when I did lots of running, swimming and cycling).

Have a look at the Youtube video by Dr Berg about cellulite and what type of exercises you can do to try to get rid of it. I've been doing a lot of these types of exercises for about 3 months now and can start to feel the muscles developing in my legs (finally!). I do think my cellulite has got slightly better but I am under no illusion that it's going to fully go away. I'm in it for the long haul though as I love feeling muscles developing in my legs :)

I think dry brushing can helpful for your skin but it's not going to get rid of cellulite.

Cheeks4970 · 15/07/2021 14:56

And this is also why I believe you don't see yoga/pilates teachers with it because it's specific muscular exercises that help it, not high impacted running and weight training etc.

KirstenBlest · 15/07/2021 15:10

@Cheeks4970, strangely enough, all my running pals are cellulite-free too.

Cheeks4970 · 15/07/2021 15:16

@KirstenBlest I guess it's such an individual thing as we are all so different with how we develop muscles from exercise - I'm a pear shape and my muscles just never developed/toned much from running or cycling (45 min daily riding to and from work).

I now feel that by doing specific exercises that are working more of the muscles in my legs, it is really helping me.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 15/07/2021 15:16

I developed cellulite after DS - despite now weighing less than before I got pregnant.

I find tons of water helps, as do sessions on the PowerPlate at the gym along with lots of barre/yoga/pilates type exercise.

ABitOfAShitShow · 15/07/2021 15:25

Have a look at endermologie.

Lbnc2021 · 15/07/2021 15:28

Yes I got rid of mine when i started weight training and eating better.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 15/07/2021 15:31

I got rid of mine through cutting out alcohol and most sugar, intermittent fasting and weight training.

Cheeks4970 · 15/07/2021 15:40

@ABitOfAShitShow I just feel that all these kinds of treatments are expensive and short term (like cellulite/firming creams etc).
