I don't really like putting this in "style and beauty" - seems a bit grown up - but heigh ho! dd1's hair is a complete nightmare - it's in a bob and is horribly straggly - it just looks lank all the time. has anyone got a dd with short hair? or layered? or any variation on the all one length bob? I need some inspiration - the bob thing is really not working. not in its current form anyway.

My DD has what I call a "baby-mullet".
A friend of the family had a pixie-cut as a little girl and looked really cute. I'd imagine that that would work better than a bob for fine hair.

jennifersofia · 24/11/2007 20:14

ooh, will be watching with interest, as I have a dd who has super fine hair and two awkward cowlicks.

Gemy · 24/11/2007 20:15

What about one of those cute short bobs? With a fridge or one that you sweep to the side with a slide? My DD has naturally ringletty hair. Sometimes it's just wild! Other times it falls perfectly. How old is your DD?

pooka · 24/11/2007 20:17

DD has a short bob. Comes to her jaw bone (slightly lower actually) with a fringe just above her eyebrows. She ahs quite fine hair and it's slow growing (is 4,5 years old), and the style really really suits her.

gigglewitch · 24/11/2007 20:18

how old is she?
my dd is two in Dec, she has scary curly hair. can't tame it at all so am thinking get it long enough to tie up!!
Will watch and hope for clues too!

notnowbernard · 24/11/2007 20:19

Wild and Out of Control!

I have no idea what to do wit it, it's realy thick and quite curly. It looks lovely up (pony tail or bunches) but she rarely lets me do it.

hatwoman · 24/11/2007 20:20

she's 7. last time she had it cut I asked the hairdresser to do it as short as she could - but it's really not that short. I don;t understand why it couldn't be shorter but she said not. my friend reckons it's because I used the word "bob" and if I'd said a "graduated bob" I'd have got something slighlty different and shorter. if my friend's right then the hairdresser is an idiot who doesn;t understand that us lay people might not know the lingo.

It depends to a certain extent on the hairline at the nape of the neck. I couldn't go too short with dd because I didn't want the hair at the back of her neck cut short short.

I know it's really difficult to transpose these onto children - they lok very grown up - but then again, of course they do - they;re on adults - but what do you reckon?

this would need to be a bit longer so she tuck bits behing her ears

this looks nice. i think

DD 4yo has hers like Pooka's DD - sort of Louise Brooks 1920's look. Last time i got the hairdresser to leave some long bits in the nape to soften it a bit. She has dark, quite thick but very straight hair. I wanted a 'baby mullet' (is that short on top and traily down below?) but her hair is too straight.

I'd go for a short bob - chin length at the front and angled shorter at the back - the use the clippers on the underneath bit at the back. An angled bob???? no idea what's it called but my dd had hers like that whe she was young.

graduated bob is really popular at the moment, due to Mrs Beckham.

If you ask the hairdresser to do a POB, she should know what to do.

I have the same cut as DD at the moment and we both have really fine hair. Works well. She is growing her fringe out so we do a litte bunch at the front.

my dd will be 5 in Jan and has a bob. I've had it graduated at the back but have now grown it out just looked too grown up and she is very diddy with a petite face. I would love to grow it but its so fine and straight I'd never be able to put it up.
