This dress, but cheaper

I really like this dress for a couple weddings/events I have this year, but don't particularly want to spend £285 on it.

Could anyone help me find similar at a lower price? Ideally below £75ish

I've been rewatching Downton Abbey for the last 5 hours

So the first thought in my head was 'Gosh, how whore-ish' Grin

I will change that to 'it's a bit booby for a wedding'

ElArco · 10/07/2021 19:47

@leopardspotsdotdotdot, blush ( so no worries about red) and in the right size - a bargain @livingoffcoffee

@ElArco unfortunately I look absolutely shit in those pale colours. I need saturated colour - red, blue, greens

Also you could just buy the dress you want, if you can afford it, and then resell it online after.

Seems to be a big market, and many wanted posts on these dresses on depop x

I think the reformation dress is too much shoulder/ cleavage for a daytime wedding.
More suited for a date or an episode of Love Island

newnortherner111 · 11/07/2021 09:23

The one where shoulders are covered I think looks better, and nothing wrong with red in my opinion. Good luck OP in finding what you are looking for, and glad you don't intend it to be single use.

Missguided, nastygal, asos, shein

StCharlotte · 11/07/2021 15:35

FML what colour can you wear to a wedding?!

Hoppinggreen · 11/07/2021 15:38

@Doublestar

I think red for a wedding is fine

I do too - but not red, tight, shoulderless...maybe I'm getting old!

Bit much for a wedding

Don’t be a dick. Bridal white definitely no. Black, a bit odd and morbid, shock red in a sexy guise is a no. No one stops you wearing a red ditsy print dress, a white blazer over a dress, a black skirt with other top etc. Urghh
WhereDidIGoNext · 11/07/2021 20:24

It’s not really being a dick to ask what colour you can wear to a wedding.
Some people here have said it’s too sexy but some have just said no red for a wedding, which is daft. I mean, red means you’ve slept with the groom?!! Come on. I’ve read on here at some point no green for a wedding. It it ridiculous. There are so many “rules” that it’s just stupid

You were not asking what colour can you wear. You said ‘FML what colour can I wear?’

Being sarcastic and being a dick. E.G. Making a joke of people offering advice on colours that aren’t appropriate.

Wear what you want I don’t give a ..,,

WhereDidIGoNext · 11/07/2021 20:38

Er, no I didn’t. It wasn’t me that said that

I agree the PP was being a bit pedantic.A marriage is a massive, life changing event. It’s also a happy occasion So wear something that reflects both of those two things.

Don’t wear anything that detracts from the bride ( white) or looks like you might be the bridal party.
Don’t dress like it’s just a party
Green is considered unlucky in churches as a bit pagan but obviously depends on how superstitious/ religious the bride and groom are.

A bit of red/green/white whatever is fine. Off the shoulder is fine with a bit of tailoring.

White blazer over a dress always reminds me of the lady who worked in the chippy when I was growing up. *misses the point

A few nice red dresses at Coast including this one

Concestor · 11/07/2021 21:08

My understanding of wedding outfit etiquette is dress as though you are going to a garden party, so pretty rather than sexy, and no cream, white, red or black.

It's not really difficult, but of course but everyone follows these rules. If in doubt, check with the bride.

Estellelauder · 11/07/2021 21:22

Exactly as Winter says upthread. There are so many colours, patterns and cuts that to avoid head to toe white (bride) red (mistress), green (misfortune) or black (mourning) doesn’t seem much of a hardship…

snotf · 13/07/2021 22:10

It's so odd & English centric too.

I have been to Jewish, Greek, Irish, Indian, Ghanaian weddings & the dress is fine. Not red for Indian weddings though!
