Ultimate in that it has to be easy to use and give a really good result (hamfisted user notwithstanding).

Budget not an issue.

In fact, I'd like this to be Cod's product test on her blog.

do you want one like a felt tip nib or a brush?

the best one i have used is the rimmel professional liquid eyeliner, with a thin flexible brush

stays in place for ages, there have been times i have fallen asleep wearing it and woken up with it pretty much intact lol

and its cheap

NomDePlume · 24/11/2007 12:58

I don't know really. Felt tip nib sounds easier to control but I guess he brush type will make it easier to do 'flicks'.

On the rare ocassions I've worn line, it has been a pencil formulation which is ok but the result isn't as strong

lol @ falling asleep with it on and waking up cfrumpled but with perfect eye make-up

lol

personally i find hte brush easier, as the nib ones can tend to struggle with doing a finer line

southeastastra · 24/11/2007 13:00

used to love the no7 one as it had a really long thin brush. but they changed it

find small brushes really hard to use.

southeastastra · 24/11/2007 13:03

oops sorry got confused it still has the long brush.

no7 then

NomDePlume · 24/11/2007 13:04

I know what you mean SEA. I used to love a Maybelline mascara, it had a really long handled brush with the perfect non-clumpy end but they discontinued that too. Grrrrr. I've never found one to replace it 100%. I use a Rimmel one now, one with a comb applicator (which I like) but it still doesn't do the business as well as the Maybelline one.

not liquid, but avon does a gel one now you put on with a brush (although you buy gel and brush seperately) and that is brill, i could never get the hang of liquid ones but the gel one is fab

NomDePlume · 24/11/2007 13:06

no7 ?

I was in Boots this morning actually. Spent £47 on Dior make up and got a FAB Dior free gift with stuff that I will actually use ! Usualy they put all the heinous stuff in that they can't sell (orange or purple lipsticks etc), but this is really good.

Guerlain do the most fab liquid eyeliners... they look fantastic too...

frosted little glass bottle with huge (about 3 inches) gold handled top with fine brush attached. Because the handle (gold top) is so long, they are so so easy to apply even with shaky hands! They do all sorts of colours... I have dark brown and the most divine dark copper metallic colour. If I ever wear them, I always get asked about what sort of eyeliner I use...

i second the rimmel professional, having tried a whole range of black liquid eyeliners. Such an excellent brush and it really is the only one that lasts for ages.

RGPargy · 24/11/2007 21:55

The best one by far (IMO) is Rimmel's Exaggerate Liquid Eye Liner - THIS ONE

It's really easy to apply, is cheap and lasts all night and all the next day too. I say this because i know!

sparklygothkat · 24/11/2007 21:56

I love the no7 one too, have it in green and its fab.

sparklygothkat · 24/11/2007 21:57

oh and the Rimmel's Exaggerate Liquid Eye Liner is great too

OverRated · 24/11/2007 22:06

Link to cod's blog please

escape · 24/11/2007 22:09

got agreat Mac one, in the sense its mega waterproof, a bit too uh atually

PurlyQueen · 24/11/2007 22:13

I swear by the Mac Liquidlast eye liners. They come in all the standard colours, such as black etc, but also some funky ones such as bottle green, turquoise and gold.
They do not budge at all - I used to wear them through a two-hour jazz dance class with no smudging. You need an oil-based eye make-up remover to get rid of them.

woodenchair · 24/11/2007 22:14

does anyone know of a dark grey liquid eye liner? I've been looking for one for ages.

escape · 24/11/2007 22:50

that must be mine then Purly, bougt it this summer.
Just got to be extra areful when applying, cos it really won't budge

deeeja · 24/11/2007 22:55

I like Lancome artliner.
Tis great!
