Tear trough fillers? Yes or no?

Annamaywong25 · 06/07/2021 12:43

Have always had pronounced dark tear troughs, hereditary since childhood, but these have increased with age. They make me look miserable, Im a happy person really! My skin is very good for my age but my tear troughs make me look haggard and sad. I would love fillers but don't know anyone whose had them to ask about/see the results.

Anything I've read about tear trough fillers seems to say that they're extremely tricky to do correctly. So I think, more than any other type of filler, you really want to put proper research into finding the right doctor.

Annamaywong25 · 06/07/2021 13:13

@Phantasmo, yes I'm going to keep that in mind, there's a local clinic that have good reviews that I'm considering at the moment. Would love to hear from anyone who's actually had it done though.

I have similar tear troughs to you and I have tried fillers twice, sadly both with poor results. The first time was with an expensive clinic in Harley Street and the second time was with a local nurse who is trained to do cosmetic injections.

The first time wasn't too bad, but it was a bit lumpy and uneven and I never felt happy with the results. The second time was worse and I had to have the filler dissolved as I got some large lumps that looked like blisters.

I discussed it with a plastic surgeon when I finally decided to have upper and lower blepharoplasty and he told me I would never be able to have fillers under my eyes as the skin is too thin.

My advice would be to find a reputable person who is medically trained and ask them for their opinion. Some people are not good candidates for this treatment.

Yes! I’ve had them done and they were great. Bloody expensive though!

Annamaywong25 · 06/07/2021 20:15

@LilyRose88 I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing, not going to rush into anything, I'm doing lots of research first.

@FreeBritnee I know theyre expensive, I've been saving up for ages. How long did they last when you had them done and would you do it again do you think?

I’ve had them done and was pleased with the result. Not everyone is suitable and you need to go to a good doctor. Mine said I had to support the tear trough filler with some check filler. I really didn’t like this at first but it did settle down after a few months.

I’d prefer not to have the cheek filler again but tear trough can be very effective.

I got them done about 4 years ago (I'm in Scotland) by Dr Darren McKeown and have never looked back! I've never needed a top up. Best thing I have done. If you check him out on Instagram he has loads of before and after pics

FreeBritnee · 06/07/2021 20:25

They certainly don’t last long. Maybe three months?

How have you never needed a top up!!?
KateFleming · 06/07/2021 20:27

I've no idea tbh! Just seemed to "work" I can't find any before and after pics of myself, but I've found some on his Instagram however it's not letting me post them on here

Delatron · 06/07/2021 20:29

They’re supposed to last at least a year to 18 months? I had mine done in October last year and still fine. Botox lasts about three months but filler should last a lot longer.

Usdyen · 06/07/2021 20:31

I’ve had mine done (by a really good person, did my research) and they did make a big difference. She added some filler to my cheeks but it was VERY subtle. I was told they’d last about year. It’s been 4 months now and they still look good and I’m happy. Will def do again if I need to. I just look like a properly rested and fresh version of me.

Iknowtheanswer · 06/07/2021 20:36

I saw a doctor to discuss them, she strongly recommended cheek fillers first, as she said tear trough has far less success rate, as skin is so thin, and they need something to sit on otherwise they can look strange.

The cheek fillers are amazingly good, and I have decided that I don't actually need the tear trough fillers now. They have lifted my face and my eyes look brighter and lighter as a result.

inmyslippers · 06/07/2021 20:46

I love mine! Had really dark circles. Doesn't help with colour though. I'm starting meso
Therapy for that

God are they really? Well mine certainly didn’t.
Delatron · 06/07/2021 20:53

Hmm maybe my doctor was right to support with the cheek filler then. I think sometimes it just takes a while to settle.

Annamaywong25 · 06/07/2021 21:58

Thanks to everyone for the input. I will find a recommended aethetics practitioner and then take their advice on whatever they feel is right for me. @Iknowtheanswer maybe I need cheek fillers first too, my cheeks have definitely dropped with age.

FreeBritnee · 06/07/2021 22:19

I had cheek fillers too. I’d agree with that advise.

princessTiasmum · 06/07/2021 23:22

Cheek fillers without tear trough fillers work just as well,

Annamaywong25 · 08/07/2021 12:03

Well, appointment booked for 2 weeks time, I'll see what the clinic advises at the consultation. Smile

I've had a look at his Instagram page and his work is very natural and if I was in the market for these kinds of things he looks like a good person to go to. But his own face looks so overdone? A real contrast to the natural look he favours on his clients. Strange.

Also, he has a Shock video on his Insta page about a girl who developed necrosis of the nose after having filler administered to her by a beautician. Bloody hell, they need to develop some proper regulations around this stuff.

StarCourt · 08/07/2021 12:48

I had cheek and tear trough filler July 2020, loved it and can really see a difference

ferretface · 08/07/2021 14:50

I've had a tiny amount of tear trough for slight hollowing which was making me look tired, she only did the slightest amount but it has really helped. Think it really depends on your anatomy and whether they are aiming to correct anything else (eye bags, cheeks etc).

Beendownthisroadmorethantwice · 08/07/2021 21:54

Am booked to have mine done in a week so will let you know how I get on!

Hop27 · 08/07/2021 22:31
